Amelia Mary Parlow
TOMAH, Wis. - Amelia Mary Parlow, 80, of Tomah, died Sunday, August 31, 1997 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born March 15, 1917 to Joseph and Mary (Matzke) Honel at Indian Creek, town of Clifton, Monroe County, Wis. She was united in marriage to Vernon Otto Parlow on January 20, 1938 at Winona, Minn. He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1996. Amelia worked as a housekeeper for Frank Drew and Peter, Pat and Walter Ninneman. She worked at Tomah Memorial Hospital and Tomah Care Center. In 1977 she retired from working at Tomah Care Center because of disability from a car accident. She was an active and faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Tomah. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth (Bonnie) of Tomah, Donald (Maxine) of Belvidere, Ill., and Gerald (Robin) of Camp Douglas; two daughters, Verna Jean Robinson of Enon, Ohio, and Sharon Noth of Plover, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; and other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, four brothers, a son-in-law, Allen Robinson and four brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 East Monowau Street, Tomah, Wis. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery at Tomah. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Family requests memorials be given to St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in her memory.

Bertha Brudos
VIROQUA, Wis. - Bertha Brudos, age 95, of rural Viroqua, died on Sunday, August 31, 1997 at the Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove, where she had been a resident since January, 1980. She was born in North Dakota on April 4, 1902 to Knute and Carrie (Hendrickson) Erickson. On December 15, 1920 she married Theodore Brudos. They farmed in the town of Sterling in Vernon County. Mr. Brudos died on September 19, 1971. She was a member of the South West Prairie Lutheran Church and the Martha Circle.
She is survived by one son, Robert (Lucille) Brudos of rural Viroqua; three sisters, Beatrice Boyer of Bagley, and Elaine (Gerald) Sidie and Ione (John) Watson, both of Janesville; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Joseph Erickson; and three sisters, Cora Honaker, and Nellie and Nora Erickson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 1997 at South West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Viroqua, with Pastor Helen Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, where there will be a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church after 10 a.m. Thursday. The family requests memorials to the South West Prairie Lutheran Church.

Mary L. Hetznecker
Mary L. Hetznecker, age 78, formerly of La Crosse, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997 at the University Hospital, Madison, Wisconsin. Mary was born in La Crosse May 21, 1919 to Joseph and Virginia (Spettel) Hetznecker. She had attended Cathedral Grade School and graduated from Aquinas High School in 1936. Mary had been an employee of the State of Wisconsin in Madison until her retirement.
She is survived by one sister, Marcia Wagner of Bremen, Indiana; and 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Rita Fahey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at the Marian Chapel of St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral. Rev. Anthony Wolf will officiate with burial to be in the Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. The Blaschke Funeral Home, La Crosse, is assisting with arrangements.

Prakseda "Praxie" Skroch
INDEPENDENCE, Wis. - Prakseda "Praxie" Skroch, 84, of Milwaukee and formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Marian Franciscan Center in Milwaukee.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with spring burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence.

Merlin C. Gilbertson
HOLMEN, Wis. - Merlin C. Gilbertson, age 68 years, of Holmen, died Sunday, August 31, 1997 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born October 28, 1928 in Holmen, Wisconsin, to Clifford and Mabel (Sjuggerud) Gilbertson. He married Rosetta M. Jerome on October 29, 1949 in Mindoro, Wisconsin. Merlin formerly worked for Pure Foods, and later for the Sealtest Ice Cream Company. In 1955 he started his own refrigeration business and operated it for 30 years, until his retirement in 1981, when he sold the business to Hammes Refrigeration. He was active with the Onalaska American Legion and various other civic groups in Onalaska.
He is survived by his mother, Mabel Gilbertson of La Crosse; his wife, Rosetta of Holmen; two sons, David (Deb) Gilbertson of Onalaska and Tom Gilbertson of Onalaska; three daughters, Rosemary (Glen) Johnson of Holmen, Judy (Richard) Placek of Onalaska and Karen Gilbertson of Warrens, Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford; and a sister, Alice.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 1997 at the Mindoro Presbyterian Church in Mindoro. Pastor Cindy Hutson will officiate. Burial will be in the Farmington Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fossum Funeral Home in Onalaska from 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service to be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.

Rachel K. Tooke
Rachel K. Tooke, 91, formerly of 2240 South Ave., died on Wednesday, January 28, 1998, at the St. Joseph's Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Houston, Minnesota, on March 3, 1906, to Joseph and Agnes (Faye) Schubert. She married Robert F. Tooke on May 16, 1925, in Breese, Ill. She and her husband owned and operated Quality Lumber and Coal Co. in La Crosse for many years. She was an avid sports fan and helped sponsor one of the top softball teams in the state for many years.
Rachel is survived by her son, Robert A. Tooke of La Crosse; five grandchildren, Patrick Tooke and Roxanne Weber of La Crosse, Michael Tooke and Kathleen Valentine of Onalaska and Robin Fricke of Indialantic, Fla.; twelve grandchildren; one sister, Fae Ebner of La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one granddaughter, Rachelle Tooke; one sister, Dorothy Rendler; and four brothers, Harold, Wenzel and Ralph Schubert and an infant brother, Joseph Schubert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, January 31, 1998, at 11 a.m. from St. Pius X Catholic Church. Rev. Thomas J. Smith will officiate. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m., where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m., and at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Rachel, who was known as ``Granny'' to many, was a devoted and caring wife, mother and grandmother, who dearly loved her grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Jean M. Soller
Jean M. Soller, 76, died on Monday, January 26, 1998, in Poway, California, while visiting her daughter.
She was born January 14, 1922, in La Crosse to John and Myrtle (DesRocher) Wing. She married Walter Soller on December 8, 1943, and he preceded her in death on October 25, 1975.
She worked as a registered nurse at the St. Francis Hospital and the Holy Cross Seminary.
Jean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne (Dennis) King of La Crosse and (Nannette) Forsythe of Poway, California; three sons, John (Karen) Soller of Las Vegas, Nevada, Anthony (Jessica) Soller of Minot, North Dakota and Joseph Soller of Las Vegas, Nevada; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peg (Ronald) La Luzerne of Levenworth, Kansas, and Beverly (Donald) Finnigan of Indianapolis, Indiana; three brothers, Robert (Irene) Wing, Richard (Peg) Wing and Kenneth (Pat) Wing, all of La Crosse.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle on January 28, 1975; her parents and a sister, Geraldine.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Crucifixion, in La Crescent, Minnesota. The Reverend Donald Grubisch will officiate and burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the services.
Memorials may be given to the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, 912 Market Street, La Crosse, Wisconsin, 54601.
The Dickinson Family Funeral Homes are assisting the family with the arrangements.

Florence E. Smith
KENDALL, Wis. - Florence E. Smith, 92, of Kendall, passed away Monday, January 26, 1998, at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Hillsboro following a long illness.
She was born December 28, 1905, to Austin and Amelia (Miller) Sutton, in the town of La Grange. She was raised on a farm with three sisters and one brother. Florence received her Teachers Training during her high school years and started teaching at age 17. After teaching two years at Farmers Valley School near Sparta, she taught at the State Grade School at Melvina along with her sister, Emma. She moved to Kendall and taught first and second grades. She was united in marriage to Elmer (Smeeder) Smith on October 31, 1934. They owned and operated Smiths Furniture and Funeral Service in Kendall for 40 years. "Smeeder" died August 25, 1972.
She is survived by one daughter, Pat (Floyd ``Pete'') Nelson of Kendall; two sons, Rodric "Rick" (Phyllis) of Beloit and Dudley (Mary) of DePere; seven grandchildren, Robin (John) Barnes IV of Racine, Guy (Lynne) Nelson of Kendall, Perry (Mary) Nelson of Seattle, Wash., Ryan (Sarah) Nelson of Milwaukee, Bill (Lisa) Smith of Green Bay, Janice (Eric) Enli of De Pere and Steven (Linda) Smith of West Bend; nine great-grandchildren, Anthony "Tony" and Zachary Barnes, Britt, Ashley, Erica and Andrea Nelson, Phillip and Zachary Smith and Michala Enli; one sister, Maybelle (Harold) Cole of Rogers, Ark.; a faithful niece, Reita (Walter) Witkowski of Plover; other nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Laura and Emma; and one brother, Rollin E. Sutton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31, 1998, 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church, Kendall. Rev. Robert Waschek will officiate. Burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 2 p.m. until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. at the Smith-Nelson Funeral Home, Kendall; and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Family requests memorials be given to Evangelical Free Church, Kendall, St. Joseph's Foundation, Hillsboro or the National Parkinson Foundation in her memory.

Teresa Cooper
WARRENS, Wis. - Teresa Cooper, 30, of Warrens, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Tomah Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church.
Friends may call at White Funeral Home in Tomah on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
