John (Jokie) Somerville
MELROSE, Wis. - John (Jokie) Somerville, age 77, of rural Melrose, died Thursday, September 25, 1997 in his home. He was born April 21, 1920 to R.E. and Ruth (Glennie) Somerville in North Bend, Wis. He attended area schools.
On June 21, 1947 he married Fern (Haldeman) in the North Bend Parsonage. They farmed in the North Bend area until his retirement when he started working for Mengal Construction.
John is survived by his wife, Fern; two sons, Robert (Peg) and Thomas (Nancy); three daughters, Veda (Terry) Ghent, Vicki (Ed) Malson and Valerie (Mike) Patterson; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Charlotte Boyd of La Crosse; one brother, Duane Somerville of Juneau, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Smith Mortuary in Melrose.

Idabell C. Gallagher
CAMP DOUGLAS, Wis. - Idabell C. Gallagher, 87, of Camp Douglas, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997 at home. She was born Nov. 11, 1909 to Benjamin Franklin and Caroline (Martinson) Atkinson at Mason City, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Nels ``Ole'' Jensen in 1928 at Sparta, Wis. He preceded her in death in 1963. She married Osler Gallagher in 1964 at Sparta, Wis. He preceded her in death in 1986. She was a nurses aid until her retirement from the VA in 1961. She then opened a group home in Tomah and later in the town of Ridgeville.
She is survived by four sons, Marvin (Joyce) of Norwalk, Nels (Nancy) of Camp Douglas, Dennis (Colleen) of Tomah and Jake (Cindy) of Camp Douglas; six daughters, Mary (Harvey) Gnewikow of Oakdale, Delores (Loyal) Larson and Beatrice Streeter of Clinton, Janice (Tim) Mahany of Rocky River, Ohio, Marlea (Victor) Evans of Camp Douglas, and Ruth (George) Herth of Tomah; three stepsons, Norman Jensen of Beloit, Jack (Linda) Gallagher of Tomah, and Richard Gallagher of St. Louis, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Audrey of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Regis Jensen of Tomah; 55 grandchildren; over 100 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Carl; two grandsons, Kevin and Randy Jensen; a great-granddaughter, Amy Jo; 10 brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 29, 1997 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1221 LaGrange Avenue, Tomah. Rev. John C. Wille will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery in the town of Tomah. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau Street, Tomah; and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Elnora Louise Moe
ONALASKA, Wis. - Elnora Louise Moe, 73, of Onalaska, Wis., died on Friday, September 26, 1997 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born on August 25, 1924 in Viroqua, Wis., to Irvin and Esther (Rose) Getter. She married Ralph Moe on March 15, in La Crosse, Wis. Elnora was a faithful member at the Salvation Army Church for 13 years and loved to volunteer her time for bell ringing or whoever needed her. She had a love for life that was infectious and whoever knew her loved her. Elnora touched many lives. She had many hobbies she enjoyed besides her volunteer work. She loved her friendships, embroidery, baking, reading and her beloved cats.
Elnora is survived by four daughters, Linda (Albert) Rogge of Genoa City, Wis., Carolyn Girard of La Crosse, Barbara Yanske of Hokah, Minn., and Darlene Leaks of Onalaska; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Lois Pittenger of La Crosse; a brother, Maurice Getter of Virginia Beach, Va.; and her three cats, Tinkerbell, Pumpkin and Mokie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; a son, Robert Moe; her parents; a brother, Bernard Getter; and a son-in-law, Darrell Leaks.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 29, 1997 at 1 p.m. at the First Fellowship Baptist Church. Rev. Jerry Armstrong and Major Larry Thorson will officiate. Burial will be in the Stoddard Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Monday from noon until the time of services.

Lorraine B. Bahr
WEST SALEM, Wis. - Lorraine B. Bahr, 83, of West Salem, died Thursday, September 25, 1997 at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem. She was born August 27, 1914 in Vernon County to Byron and Lena (Brudos) Schoenberger. She married Lee V. Johnson and he preceded her in death in 1957. She then married Joseph Bahr in 1965 and he preceded her in death in 1996.
Survivors include six children, Janet (Charles) Guist of Viroqua, Deloris (Ron) Pagel of Janesville, Wis., Larry (Carol) Johnson of Viroqua, Kay (Jim) Willenberg of Stoddard, Wis., Linda Athnos (Ron Cook) of West Salem and Sandra Hunter of La Crosse; one daughter-in-law, Matilda Fortun of Viroqua; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five stepchildren, Lyle Bahr, James (Cona) Bahr, Joseph Bahr Jr., Ken (Cindy) Bahr and Phyllis (Fred) Balmer. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard Johnson; an infant daughter, Sharon Johnson; three grandsons, David Guist, Timmy Whitney and Brad Johnson; and a sister, Lillian Schoenberger.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 29 at 11 a.m. from Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem. Rev. Jonathan V. Eastman will officiate. Burial will be in the South West Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, town of Sterling. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Avery V. Brown
OAKDALE, Wis. - Avery V. Brown, 101, of Oakdale, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997 in Tomah Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church, Tomah. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the White Funeral Home, Tomah; and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Monday in the church.

Marcine Jenkins
Marcine Jenkins, 73, of La Crosse, died Thursday, September 25, 1997 at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born at Viroqua on April 6, 1924. She worked for St. Francis Hospital before her retirement.
She is survived by one son, Thomas and his fiancee, Sara VanRiper; granddaughter Samantha; and two brothers, Ray (Blanche) Mason and Roy (Wanda) Mason, all of La Crosse. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be held Monday, September 29, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Woodruff Funeral Home, 4239 Mormon Coulee Road. Mr. Andrew LeFebre will officiate and following cremation, inurnment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call one half hour before services on Monday.

O. Mark Schneider, MD
BLAIR, Wis. - O. Mark Schneider, MD, age 81, of Blair, Wis., died on Friday, September 26, 1997 in the Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall, Wis. Mark was born on July 28, 1916 in Black River Falls, Wis. to Ben and Clara (Oberlatz) Schneider. The family moved to Independence, Wis. where he attended SS. Peter and Paul Parochial School and graduated from the Independence High School with the class of 1934. Mark continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After transferring to the Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge he completed his undergraduate work and entered LSU Medical School in New Orleans. He received his medical degree in 1943.
After an internship at Shreveport, La. he was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Medical Corp. He served in the South Pacific on Leyte, Philippines, and the 49th General Hospital in Manila where he assisted with the release of the American prisoners in Santo Tomas. Captain Schneider was then deployed to Tokyo, Japan and later returned to the United States in the fall of 1946.
On February 12, 1945 Dr. Schneider and Mary Frances Barker of Lockport, La., were married at the Holy Name of Jesus Church in New Orleans, La. Upon his return from overseas the Schneiders moved to Blair, Wis. and he joined the Dr. R.L. McCormack Clinic in Whitehall, Wis. and opened an office in Blair. Over a period of 43 years he practiced at his clinic in Blair and was on the staff at the Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Grand View Care Center, Trempealeau County Health Care Center, and the Tri-County Lutheran Home in Pigeon Falls, Wis.
Dr. Schneider was honored in many ways for his dedication and unfailing and loving care. He was named ``Physician of the Year'' in 1979 by the Wisconsin Association of Nursing Homes. He was recognized by the city of Blair upon his retirement in 1987.
Dr. Schneider was instrumental in the establishment of two Catholic churches; St. John's parish in Whitehall and St. Ansgar's parish in Blair, of which he remained an active member until the time of his death. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly and was a 4th degree Knight. He was also active in numerous community organizations including the American Legion Post in Blair, Ettrick VFW Post, Blair Lions Club, American Medical Association, Trempealeau County Medical Association, and the Boy Scout Council.
In addition to his wife, Mary Frances Schneider of Blair, Wis., Dr. Schneider is survived by six children, Mark (Carolyn) Schneider of Houston, Texas, Judy (Bill) Nielsen of Mooresville, N.C., Mary Pat (Les) White of Lafayette, La., Beth (Richard) Taylor of Alpharetta, Ga., Mike (Lisa) Schneider of Knoxville, Tenn., and Bill (Jenny) Schneider of Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Ann, Mary, Lexi, and Ben Schneider, Mark and Emily Nielsen, Adam and John White and Matthew and John Taylor; and a brother, Ben Schneider, Jr. of Vista, Calif.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 29, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Ansgar's Catholic Church in Blair, Wis., with Father John A. Schultz officiating. Graveside services will be at approximately 1:30 p.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Independence, Wis.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 28, 1997 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair, Wis., where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.

Wilma G. Schneider
Wilma G. Schneider, 89, of La Crosse, died at her home on Saturday, September 20, 1997.
She was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on January 12, 1908 to Edward and Frances (Longnecker) Strohmeyer. She married John H. Schneider on October 29, 1931 in Rice Lake, Wis. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1975. Wilma worked as an interior decorator for Schneider Home Furnishings in La Crosse for many years.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she was active in the Blessed Sacrament Women's Club and choir, and participated in many church related charitable activities.
Wilma is survived by two daughters, Elaine Schneider of La Crosse and Carol (Richard) Horzempa of Pewaukee, Wis.; two sons, John E. (Loretta) Schneider of La Crescent, and James (Carol) Schneider of Onalaska; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two sisters, JoAnn Schmidt of Rice Lake, Wis., and Vi Stowe of Coon Rapids, Minn. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, an infant sister, and one grandson.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 1997 at 11 a.m. from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Bernard J. McGarty will officiate. Burial will be held in the Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The family requests that memorials be given to the Aquinas Foundation. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.

Venoy Libbey
TOMAH, Wis. - Venoy Libbey, age 82, of Tomah, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997, 11 a.m. at the White Funeral Home in Tomah. Pastor Ron Tobin will officiate. Burial will follow at the Mount Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the White Funeral Home.

Louis J. Steffen
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. - Louis J. Steffen, age 89, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997 at the Prairie du Chien Health Care Center. Mr. Steffen has arranged to donate his body to medical science. A memorial mass will be scheduled at a later date. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien, Wis. is assisting the family.
