Harland C. Weghorn, 87
SPRING VALLEY - Harland Charles Weghorn, age 87, of Spring Valley died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at the Spring Valley Health Care Center.
He was born Sept. 9, 1912, the son of Charles and Ruth (Eaton) Weghorn in Hartland Township. He was baptized as an adult through St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley, and has been a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. He attended grade school at Red Wing and Ellsworth. In 1925, the Weghorns moved to Spring Valley, where he graduated from the Spring Valley High School.
On Aug. 24, 1929, he married Stella Miller at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. He worked at Gillette Rubber Company in Eau Claire as a fireman during World War II. They returned to Spring Valley, where he was a self-employed plasterer and contractor.
He enjoyed fishing and golfing. He loved to sing and enjoyed playing card games with his family. He was active in his church and community, where he served on the Spring Valley Village Board and St. John's Church Council.
Survivors include: his wife, Stella of Spring Valley; four children, Jack (Gloria) Weghorn of Spring Valley, Pat (Ralph) Gavic of Spring Valley, Dick (Barbara) Weghorn of Phillips and Mike (Kathy) Weghorn of Barron. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Omer (Vera) Weghorn of Spring Valley; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were: his parents; two sisters, Norma Nord and Helen Hojem; and one brother, Gordon Weghorn.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 16, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley, with Rev. Reinhold Markwart officiating. Music was provided by organist Linda Anderson and pianist Ryan Durfee. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley. Blake Weghorn served as honorary bearer. Pallbearers were: Barry Weghorn, Bryan Weghorn, Don Gavic, Steve Weghorn, David Weghorn and Wayne Hojem.
Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is handling arrangements.

Laura A. Stewart, 82
ELMWOOD - Laura A. Stewart, age 82, of Elmwood died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
She was born Aug. 10, 1917.
She is survived by: six sons; five daughters; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers.
She was cremated and her ashes were buried in the Maxville Cemetery, Buffalo County.
Arrangements by the Rhiel Funeral Home, Elmwood.

Ralph F. White, 74
SPRING VALLEY - Ralph Fredrick White, age 74, of Spring Valley died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at the Spring Valley Health Care Center.
He was born April 1, 1925, the son of Burt and Anna (Knaup) White at Maiden Rock. He was baptized in 1956 at Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. He attended school while growing up at Maiden Rock. He moved to Spring Valley and farmed in Gilman Township. He also worked construction and did de-horning during that time. He worked on construction of the Spring Valley dam, and worked on the Village of Spring Valley Maintenance Crew for a number of years.
On July 9, 1970, he married Delores Luebke at Las Vegas, Nev. He loved fishing, hunting and woodworking. Many people stopped by his home to buy worms and waxies.
Survivors include: his wife, Delores of Spring Valley; five children, Brian (Debbie) White of Eau Claire, Brenda (Joe) Stangl of Spring Valley, Brad (Giselle) White of Elk Mound, Bridget (Marv) Pehlke of Spring Valley and Bernadine (Jay) Jaquish of Chippewa Falls; three stepchildren, Linda (Doug) Dyle of Hudson, Julia Ziehme and her friend Craig Comstock of Menomonie, and Tom Luebke of Arizona. He is also survived by: 12 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Floyd (Anne) White of Plum City; two sisters, Helen Gillis of Plum City and Gloria "Babe" (Curt) Nelson of Stockholm; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Hub (Lois) Fisher of Menomonie, Allen Fisher of Menomonie, and Alice Myers of Madison; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; three sisters, Evelyn White, Evedna Grossklaus and Hazel Julian; and one stepdaughter, Connie Fox.
Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 20, at Keehr Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Holste officiating the service. Spring burial will be at Halverson Cemetery, Menomonie. Bearers were: Brian White, Brad White, Scott Burr, Jamie Burr, Doug Dyle and Craig Comstock.
Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, handled arrangements.

Jeffrey W. Deiss, 43
Jeffrey William Deiss of River Falls died on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000.
He was born Nov. 1, 1956, at Hudson Hospital to William and Pat (Kealy) Deiss. He attended St. Bridget's Catholic School and River Falls High School. He married Melanie Owens on Oct. 1, 1988, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church. They have two children.
He was employed by Cemstone Concrete Products of Hastings, Minn. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed travelling and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by: his wife, Melanie; children, Cody, age nine, and Kelly, seven; parents, William and Pat Deiss of Danbury; brothers, Randy (Polly) and Gary (Kathy) of River Falls, and Phil (Kim) of Ellsworth; nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Ann Lee; sister-in-law, Gail Owens.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A Mass of Christian burial was to be held Tuesday, Feb. 22, with Father Gerald Harris officiating. He was buried at St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery in River Falls.
Cashman Mortuary of River Falls handled arrangements.

Bernice V. Larson, 84
PLUM CITY - Bernice V. Larson, age 84, of Stockholm died on Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Plum City Care Center, where she had been a resident since 1995.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1915, in Maiden Rock Township, the daughter of Adolph and Amanda (Olson) Rask. She received her education at the 16 School.
She was married on July 12, 1941, to Wilbert D. Larson in Red Wing. They lived on and operated her family's farm all their lives. She was a lifelong member of Sabylund Lutheran Church in Stockholm and a member of the Sabylund Women.
She enjoyed quilting, baking bread and helping others.
She is survived by: her sons, Dennis (Diane) of Toole, Utah, Jerry of Red Wing and Steven of Osceola; granddaughters; great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Hazel (Gaylord) Erickson of Stockholm; close family friend, Sharon Taft of Stockholm; and many more loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, Wilbert; and her brother, Herbert Rask.
The funeral service was to be Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Sabylund Lutheran Church in Stockholm with the Rev. Lynne Rigg officiating. Luella Dettling was to be organist and Howard Larson soloist. Spring interment will be in Sabylund Cemetery in Stockholm. Pallbearers were to be: Wayne Bengston, James Nelson, Miguel Sandoval, Carlton Anderson, Charles Anderson, Conrad Anderson and Dale Erickson. Honorary pallbearers were to be: Thomas Sandoval, Joseph Sandoval and Caleb Sandoval. Memorials will be given to the Sabylund Lutheran Church.
Arrangements were with Swandby-Murphy Funeral Home in Maiden Rock.

Leon G. Fiedler, age 89
Leon G. Fiedler, age 89, of Prescott died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
He was born Nov. 9, 1910, in Prescott, the son of Peter and Ann (Gotzman) Fiedler. He was a 1929 graduate of Prescott High School. He married Irene Trapp Sept. 28, 1940, in Hastings, Minn. He farmed the family homestead in Oak Grove Township all his life. The farm has been in the Fiedler family since 1868.
He loved farming and horses. He was active in civic affairs, serving on the Sunnyside School Board, a member of River Falls Mutual Insurance Company Board of Directors for 33 years. He also served on St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Council. He was currently a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hastings.
Survivors include: his wife, Irene of Prescott; one son, Hilton Fiedler of Prescott; one daughter, Sandra Fiedler of White Bear Lake, Minn.; two sisters, Doris Larson of Ellsworth and Violet Peterson of Nokomis, Fla.; three nephews and two nieces.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hastings. Rev. Percy Damrow and Vicar Joshua Martin will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery, Prescott. Friends were to call at the Hill Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Prescott, from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are preferred.
Hill Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Prescott, is serving the family.

Harvey F. Jeske, 87
BAY CITY - Harvey F. Jeske, 87, Red Wing, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Fairview Seminary Home. He was born Aug. 21, 1912, in Red Wing to Fred and Mary (Friese) Jeske. He attended schools in Red Wing. He married Helen Haustein on Aug. 30, 1941. He worked for a short time at S. B. Foot Tannery, then for 30 years at USG until he retired. He then worked at Josten's for about one year. He was a member of the Red Men Club and the Goose Lake Riders Club. He repaired small engines, enjoyed gardening and playing horseshoes.
Survivors include: four daughters, Mary (Doulie) Williams and Rita (Tom) Mitchner of Red Wing, Ramona (David) Kees of DeSmet, S. D., and Peggy (Jesse) Harding of Bay City; two sons, Fred (Sherry) and Alan (Cheri) of Red Wing; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marcy Lee and Dorothy Carlson of St. Paul; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Helen, in 1994; one daughter, Dianne Ableidinger; two sisters and four brothers.
Memorial mass was Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Red Wing, with the Rev. Thomas Walker officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association.
