Stoughton - Gilman E. Thompson, age 80, died on Sunday, December 19, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on April 1, 1924, in Stoughton, a son of the late Clarence and Emma (Hawkinson) Thompson. Gilman served in the United States Army during WWII and received many honors. He was united in marriage to Laura Wolf on December 2, 1966. He was a welder at Highway Trailer and Dorsey Trailer. Gilman also bar tended part time for many years in the Stoughton area. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 328. He loved to play bingo, traveling to Las Vegas, watching Nascar and he never missed a Packer game. He is survived by his daughter, Jody (Jeff) Hitchcock of Stoughton, 2 grandsons, Joshua & Jared; a sister, Arlene (Henry) Likeness of Neilsville, 2 sister-in-laws, Lorrayne Thompson and Dorothy Thompson both of Stoughton, 2 brother-in-laws, Roland (Donna) Wolf and David (Marilyn) Wolf all of Cambridge. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Laura, on October 30, 2004, his parents, 3 brothers, Art, Sidney, and Virgil, and a sister, Gladys Wittig. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home. Reverend Terry Peterson pastor of McFarland Lutheran Church will officiate. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. The family extends a thank you to Jennifer, Kevin, and Kathy, and to the many friends and family who have helped with their recent losses. Also a thank you to nurses Cindy and Sarah at St. Marys Hospital, Dr. Kenneth Wallmeyer, and Dr. David Nelson. We wanted so much to keep you, We watched you day by day. Helen Ruth Cassata, age 85, died Monday, April 28, 2003 comfortably in her home. She was born March 13, 1917 in Beloit, the daughter of Leslie and May (Porter) Cox. Helen graduated from Beloit Memorial High School. In 1936, she was united in marriage with Louis Cassata who preceded her in death on August 30, 1969. Helen lived in Beloit until 1939 and has been a Madison resident for the past 64 years. She was a member of Bashford United Methodist Church, Bashford UMW, the Esther Circle and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and an occasional trip to the casinos. She lived for family get-togethers, having her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren near. Survivors include two sons: Philip (Joan) Cassata of FL and Steve (Bernadette) of Madison; one daughter Karen Baszynski of Madison; 9 grandchildren: David (Rachael) Hustad of FL, Douglas (Raquel) Hustad of TN, Anthony Cassata of Eau Claire, Suzanne Fischer of CA, Brent (Jennifer) Cassata of OH, Kevin (Candi) Cassata of Madison, Christine Cassata, Johnny and Joshua Baszynski all of Madison; 5 great grandchildren; one sister Alta DeRone of Beloit; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother Everett and one sister Hazel Gettings. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday May 3, 2003 at BASHFORD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 329 North St. where friends may call from 10 AM until time of service. Reverend Roger T. Becker will officiate and interment will be at 1 PM in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Stoughton - Mayer A. Hoel, age 84, died on Tuesday, April 29, 2003 in Stoughton. He was born on May 26, 1918, in Fargo, ND, a son of the late Martin and Karen (Kildahl) Hoel. He married Mina Bratland on January 27, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa. Together the couple farmed in the Stoughton Area. Mayer also worked at General Motors for 20 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church. He is survived by 2 children, Richard (Joyce) Hoel of Cottage Grove and Marjorie Peterson (Lowell Kittleson) of Oregon; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lloyd (Meta) Hoel,and Robert (Shirley) Hoel; 4 sisters, Elizabeth (Willard) Scheel, Elsie (Kenneth) Splinter, Florence Monson, Helen (Clifford) Bakken; a sister-in-law, Ann Hoel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mina, in 2002, his parents, a daughter, Nancy Levy, granddaughter, Melissa Hoel, brother Wesley Hoel, a sister, Ruth Rinden, and brothers-in-law, Leroy Rinden and Harvey Monson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 1, at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home. The Reverend Dick Halom will officiate. Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Theresa Rose Key

MARSHALL - Theresa Rose (Walleser) Key of Marshall died in an automobile accident Thursday, May 1, 2003, near Kankakee, Illinois. Theresa was born September 1, 1950, to Lawrence and Esther (Hammell) Walleser at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. Theresa started her life on a farm near Waukon, Iowa, and began school at a small country schoolhouse. At age eight, she moved with her family to another farm near Harpers Ferry, Iowa. There she attended Allamakee Community Grade School. She attended St. George High School in Lansing Iowa, graduating in 1968. In 1972, Theresa graduated from Viterbo College in LaCrosse with a B.S. in Home Economics. Theresa met her husband, Alton Key while working summers at Browns Lake Resort, Burlington. They married November 27, 1970, in LaCrosse. Theresa and Alton resided in Colorado where Alton was stationed at Fort Carson. There, Lisa and Scott were welcomed into their family. In 1974 Theresa, Alton, and children moved to Cambridge. In 1982, they settled on a small acreage near Marshall. Theresa started a 15 year career with the Fotomat Corp. while in Colorado and transferred to Madison and Milwaukee where she became a Regional Manager. While in Colorado, Theresa and Alton began raising beagles and coon dogs. This began a lifelong passion of raising, hunting, and showing Redbone dogs in the American, United States, and National Redbone Associations. Theresa was the only woman that was ever elected President of the American Coon Hound Association. With her husband Alton, she was instrumental in bringing worldwide fame to Key's Outlaw Redbone Kennels. Theresa began a re-upholstery business at her home, called the Barn Shop. She worked with many clients and interior designers in the Madison and Milwaukee area. She also taught re-upholstery classes at Madison area Technical College. Most of her family has a couch, chair, or quilt in their home that came from her. Theresa became a tri-state distributor and sales person for Charlotte Fabrics of Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2002. Theresa had a great love for God and Gods gifts to her. She loved everything in nature, flowers, animals, trees, the wind, sun, moon, and skies. She loved the changing seasons. She loved her family, her husband Alton, her children, Lisa and Scott, her Dad and Mom, brothers and sisters, and all of her other relatives. Her grandchildren, Mason, and Mollie were the highlight of her life. Her love of family began another hobby that she loved, researching of the family tree. She enjoyed meeting relatives and researching her ancestry. Survivors include her husband, Alton Key; a daughter, Lisa Lund (Jamie Kuhls) of Marshall; and a son Scott Key and fiancé Shelly Northey of Madison; grandchildren, Mason and Mollie Lund of Marshall, and their father Randi Lund of Deerfield; her parents, Lawrence and Esther (Hammell) Walleser; sisters, Mary (Dan) Delaney of Lansing Iowa, Karen (Bob) Batteen of Urbana Iowa, Jean (Francis) Ottaway of McGregor Iowa, Bess (Phillip) Anderson of Arlington Texas, Rita (Steve) Thom of Waukesha, Anita (Andy) Schauer of Roscoe Illinois, Esther Niedert of Lansing Iowa; brothers, Allen (Diane) Walleser of Houston Minnesota, Melvin (Christine) Walleser of Farmersburg Iowa, Fred (Dora) Walleser of Lansing Iowa, Carl (Joan) Walleser of Senoia Georgia, Byron (Betty) Walleser of Pickett, and Ted (Stacy) Walleser of Lansing Iowa; sisters-in-law, Ann (Key) Shepherd of Winston Salem North Carolina, Nancy Walleser of Harpers Ferry Iowa, Mary (Doug) Dommie of LaCrosse; 22 nieces; and 22 nephews; 13 great-nephews and great nieces. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; two brothers, Joe Walleser, and Larry Walleser; her father-in-law, Weldon Key; mother-in-law, Nellie Robertson; sister-in-law, Linda Key; two nephews, William Delaney, and Michael Walleser. Visitation will be held at OLSON-HOLZHUTER-CRESS FUNERAL HOME, Deerfield, WI. from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at ST. Eugene Wendt

Madison - Eugene R. Wendt passed away on Friday, April 25, 2003 at home surrounded by his family. Gene was born in Columbus, WI on April 15, 1943, the son of Raymond and Jeanette (Will). He received his BS, MS and PhD from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He was the first Occupational Therapist hired for the Madison Public School District in 1966, where he worked until his retirement in June 2000. Gene was instrumental in pioneering the field of school-based occupational therapy, devising ways to help handicapped children be successful in school and to enrich their lives. He was a tireless advocate for children with disabilities as well as for their families. Working with UW engineering students, Gene assisted in the development of a prototype communication device, an innovation for children unable to speak. From 1972-76, Gene was an instructor in the UW Occupation Therapy program where he helped establish fundamental guidelines for the training of undergraduate students in the filed of school based OT. He provided unique and practical experiences for his students. In his lifelong pursuit for maintaining excellence, Gene continued to develop vehicles for on-going training not only for practicing therapists, but also for other professionals in the field of special education. Gene was the author of numerous professional articles, gave many workshops and developed training films for parents and teachers of handicapped children. He helped write the local policy for implementation of the federal special education law, functioned as the Administrator of the West Early Childhood Program and taught and practiced how medicine relates to the education of children. Gene volunteered and served as a member for the Board of Directors of Madison Area Rehabilitation Centers (MARC) for the past 14 years. Gene was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He loved to travel and garden. He thrived on entertaining friends and family with his talent for cooking. Gene was an avid Badger fan. Gene is survived by his life long partner, Jeanne Marquis; two nieces, Angela (Charles) Kunde of Colgate, WI: Amy (Don) Strait of McFarland, WI; a nephew, Gary Drolshagen of Mayville, WI; a great-nephew, Kasey Strait and a great-niece, Dakota Drolshagen. His parents; a sister, Rachel Drolshagen; and an infant nephew, David Drolshagen, preceded him in death. He touched the lives of students, their parents, colleagues, friends and family with his generous spirit. Gene was a warm, caring person with an irreverent sense of humor. He will be forever young in our memories. The family would like to thank Dr. Bernard Micke and the Hospice staff for their extraordinary care and the many friends for their steadfast support. Alice Mae (Kemnitz) Delwiche

Alice Mae Delwiche died on April 23, 2003, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Center. She was born in Morrisonville, Wisconsin, on August 22, 1909, a daughter of the late Joseph and Laura (Brabant) Ziebarth. Her early years were spent in Morrisonville and later on the edge of the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison. She married Harold Kemnitz in 1929, shortly after his graduation from the university, and they lived in Jolliet, Ill., Erie, Penn., Baltimore, MD, and Dallas, Tex, before Alice returned to Madison in 1956. Alice loved Madison and she enjoyed concerts and other events at the university and the Civic Center. She cherished memories of her travels in Western Europe and in the eastern United States, Pacific Northwest and Alaska. She was a vibrant member of various civic groups and clubs in Madison and a loyal volunteer in St. Mary’s Hospital auxiliary. Most of all she loved and was loved by her family and many close friends. She took great interest in the lives and adventures of others, and kept her mind sharp to the end by conversation, playing Scrabble and working crossword puzzles. Alice is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (Emilio) Chassé of Liverpool, NY, Joan Kemnitz of Madison, and Suzanne (Carl) Arvidson of Bend, Ore., son Joseph (Amanda) of Madison, and daughter-in-law Nancy Kemnitz of Oxford, Mich. She is further survived by 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Sydney, sisters Mary and Margaret, husbands Harold and Anthony Delwiche, son James Kemnitz, and great-granddaughter Cindi Cloutier, and by aunts Alice and Clara Brabant and Josephine Sondergaard and uncle Louis Brabant. Alice became especially close to daughter-in-law Amanda Tuttle Kemnitz, whose continual presence and cheerful empathy, as well as nursing talents, buoyed her spiritually and physically. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at the Hospice Center. You are wonderful. Stoughton - Arthur Frederick Anderson, Sr., age 77, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Oregon Manor. He was born in McFarland on June 6, 1925, a son of the late Christian and Hannah (Trone) Anderson. He was united in marriage to Marilynn Sanger on December 16, 1950 in Winter, Wisconsin. Arthur worked at Stoughton Trailer until his retirement. He was a member of Western Koshkonong Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening and his horses. He is survived by his children; Debbie (Claire) Friedli, Jerry (Ann), Arthur, Jr. “Andy” (Julie), and David, 11 grandchildren; Chad, Kelly, Jeannie, John, and Jack Anderson, Shawn Goecks, Jeremy Friedli, Clint and Daniel Anderson, Joshua and Natalie Anderson, 4 great-grandchildren; Trent and Taylor Friedli, Kyle and Tyler Anderson, a brother, Melford T. “Shorty” (Donna) Anderson, and a sister, Mildred Schultz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilynn, his parents, brothers, Norman and Harry, and a sister, Goulde. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 24, at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress, Stoughton. The Reverend Mark Marozick will officiate. Burial will follow at Upper McFarland Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday. A special thank you to the staff of Oregon Manor for their loving care and to Pastor Mark Marozick.
