Survived by his wife, Denise Englert; children, Joe, Jody, Page and Jillian; father, Carl Englert; brothers, Dennis, David, Dean and Ron; sister, Darleen Stone; and one grandson, Anthony. HORTON, Walter T., 67, of Tucson, died July 11, 1997. Survivors include his devoted wife of 40 years, Ellen; daughters, Maureen (Marc) Gillespie, Bernadette (Gus) Roumbos, Shivaun (Dean) Tolley; brother Floyd Horton; and sister, Viola; grandchildren, Jamie, Julie, Troy, Dean, Justin, Amanda, Kristina and Michael; several nieces and nephews; and many wonderful longtime friends. Mr. and Mrs. Horton have been residents of Tucson since 1967. Mr. Horton retired as Msgt. with the USAF after 24 years of service. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, July 15, 1997 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, July 16, 1997, 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will be at East Lawn. Henry O. Marquez, 83, of Tucson, passed away July 12, 1997. Husband of 55 years of Rita. Also survived by daughter, Cecilia Hernandez; sons, Alfred (Stella), Victor (Clara), Henry M. Marquez; brother, Roberto; also by 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 1997 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Church, 602 W. Ajo Way. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Henry retired from the Pima County Highway Department where he was employed for 24 years. Arrangements by CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY INC.

Robert Arriaga Abril, age 69, a native of Tucson, passed away July 11, 1997. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Licensed since 1950 by the Registrar of Contractors and was well known by the building industry. The National Concrete Industries of America awarded him with excellence and design for the homes he built. He became a Real Estate Broker by 1970 and a member of the Tucson Association of Realtors. He was a Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser and a Compliance Fee Inspector for the Federal Housing Administration. He became a Designated Fee Appraiser for the Veterans Administration, HUD/FHA and The City of Tucson Real Estate Department. Preceded in death by his father, Robert Z. Abril. He is survived by his mother, Alice Arriaga Abril; his brothers and sisters, Olga Duran, Hector Abril, Frank Abril, Mary Alice Nieto and Mary Helen Garcia; his son and daughters, Debi Thibaudeau, Robert R. Abril, Lettina Heilbron and Lenore Leber; his great-grandchild, Sara Berube and grandchildren, Nicole Berube, Staff Sergeant, April Thibaudeau, Ian Heilbron, Chase Heilbron and Jeremy Leber. We will remember the help and guidance he had given us with the utmost respect and love. Memorial Service to be held at St.Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Monday, July 14, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tucson VA Medical Center, 3601 South 6th St., Tucson, AZ 85723.

COUGHLIN, Lawrence M. 'Mike', 43, of Tucson, died July 9, 1997 in Tucson. Survived by one son, Devin Michael Coughlin of Tucson; mother, Margaret Rood of Tucson and father, Lawrence Coughlin of Largo, FL; great-grandmother, Mary Coughlin of St.Petersburg, FL and special friends, Lupe K. and Thomas E. Mike was proud of being and Eagle Scout. He worked as a locksmith for 25 years and worked at U.M.C. as a master locksmith for the last 10 years. Visitation for Mike will be Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. July 13, 1997 at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass for Mike will be at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1946 E. Lee at 9:00 a.m., Monday, July 14, 1997 with Father Crino officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL.

Caroline Brown 'Lula' Jacobs, Born January 11, 1909, died July 8, 1997. Mrs. Jacobs was a decadent of a Tucson pioneer family. Preceded in death by husband, Edward Carrillo Jacobs. Survived by son, Edward Brown Jacobs; daughters, Bella J. (Don) Bowerman, Sona E. Traw, Gloria (Pete) Samorano; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers, David Bowerman, Danny Bowerman, Ron Traw, Paul Samorano, Brian Samorano, Pete Samorano, Don Bowerman. Family requests memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society, Lupus Foundation, Diabetes Association and St. Augustine Cathedral Maintenance Fund. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, 1997 from 4:00 to 10:00 at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel), 240 South Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Monday, July 14, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 South Stone Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. MCCOY, Violet L. (Tegarden), 88, died in California July 11, 1997. Service arrangements to be announced by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., at a later date.

REECE, Eugene, 89, born in Cory, IN, died July 10, 1997. Survived by his daughters, Jean Gasper and Mary (Fred) Swiderski; grandchildren, Jim and Donna Gasper, Paula Aslanian, Amy and Alex Swiderski; great-grandchildren, Kristen Gasper, George and Abby Aslanian; sister, Saralou Bridgette; sisters-in-law, Mary Reece and Louease Reece; many nieces and nephews. Graveside Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday July 16, 1997 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., in charge of arrangements.

SCHNITTKER, William M., Jr., 71, died of a heart attack on June 24, 1997, following a five month battle with Pneumonia. He and his wife Miriam served with Wycliffe Bible Translators since 1979 currently in the Mexico Branch-Tucson Center in Arizona. He served with the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Bill is survived by wife, Miriam Eppley Schnittker, Tucson, AZ; mother, Viva Schnittker, Clearwater, FL; three sons, Alan Schnittker, Federal Way, WA, Paul Schnittker, Park Forest, IL; Dirk Schnittker, Chicago, IL; two daughters, Sandra (David) Lewis, Odessa, NY and Janet (James) Connon, Montgomery, IL; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son, Charles, who drowned in 1970 at age 17. Bill will be missed by his family and friends. Memorial Service was held Friday, June 27, 1997 at the Summer Institute of Linguistics Auditorium in Catalina, AZ. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY.

WALLIS, James Clarence, 73, passed away July 3, 1997. Preceded in death by son, James C. Wallis; wife, Betty Wallis. Survived by his children, Peggy Crawford of Anchorage, AK; Julia Smegal and Joseph Wallis, both of Albuquerque, NM; Paige Wallis of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren, Penny Booher of Peter’s Creek, AK; Stephen Crawford of Anchorage, AK; Emma Faye Smegal of Albuquerque, NM; Desire, Nicole and Brittany Wallis, Rio Rancho, NM; brothers, Jerry Wallis; Bud Wallis; sister, Phyllis Hill. Service times will be published at a later date.

BENAGLIO, Jacqueline, 68, of Mammoth, AZ, died July 9, 1997. Sister of Charlie (Phyllis) Benaglio of Mammoth and Enrico (Etta) Benaglio of Tucson; two nieces, one nephew; seven great-nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Angelina Benaglio of Mammoth. After graduation from high school in Jerome, AZ, she worked as a bookkeeper for various companies. She retired in Mammoth, AZ.Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Mammoth, AZ with Rosary recited at 1:30 p.m. Visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the Church. Burial to follow in Valley View Cemetery, Mammoth, AZ. Arrangements by ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave., (888-1111).

Mrs. Willie Lee Scott, age 88 years, of Biloxi, MS, passed July 8, 1997 in Tucson, AZ. She is survived by five daughters, Deloris Mills, Tucson; Mabel Scott Austin, Houston; Patricia Dixon, Seattle; Marie Williams, Tucson and Mary Strickland, Biloxi. Service will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, in Tucson on Monday, July 14, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Robert Robinson of South Park Church of God in Christ officiating. Visitation 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Interment East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Road.

SIDLOWSKI, Estelle, 83, of Fort Smith, AR, died July 4, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband after 61 years of marriage. Survived by daughters, Barbara Garcia of Tempe, AZ and Judith Sidlowski of Pine Island, FL; daughter-in-law, Sharon Sidlowski of Fort Smith, AR and son Dr. Julian J. Sidlowski of Fort Smith, AR; grandchildren, Jorge and Grant Garcia, Krista Rush and Heather Sidlowski. Graveside Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 1997 at the East Lawn Palms Mausoleum, 5801 E. Grant Rd. SMITHHART, Ramon R. 'Ray', 63, died July 1, 1997. Ramon retired as Chief Warrant Officer from the U.S. Army after 26 years of service. He was a combat Veteran of Korea and Vietnam, receiving the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal. In 1986 he joined the Pima County Sheriff’s Department as a Correction Officer. One of the many distinguished awards and honors bestowed upon him during his career was the title of Correction Officer of the Year 1991, United States, given by the American Jail Association. Ramon is survived by his loving family. Memorial Service 8:30 a.m, Saturday, July 12 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church with full military honors. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

SPARKS, Evelyn J., passed away on Thursday, July 10, 1997. A long term resident of Tucson, she was married to Rev. James R. Sparks, Sr., who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Magnolia Court #28, Heron of Jericho. She is survived by three children, Gwendolyn M. Parks, James R. Sparks, Jr. and Dr. Edward F. (Vertie) Sparks; six grandchildren, Kevin Sparks, Nikki Sparks, Marlise Parks, Keith Sparks, Robin Sparks and Bess Ellen Parks. She also leaves a number of nieces, nephews and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral Service, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12 at Trinity Temple CME Church, 1025 E. 30th St. Interment following at TMP South Lawn. ACEVEDO, Fernando M., 79, vaquero, passed away on July 4, 1997 in Boise, ID. Born in Benson, AZ (Cumaro Ranch). Long time resident of Oracle. Son of the late, Ramona Martinez and Julian Acevedo. Father of surviving children, Tom Acevedo and wife, Helen, Emma Gaona and husband, Patricio, Cecilia Basham, Teresa Acevedo; grandfather of 10; great-grandfather of 18 and great-great-grandfather of one. Brother of Mary Fikes and half-sister, Luisa Whalen. Preceded in death by brothers, Federico, Dario, Damacio and Demetrio. Beloved husband of Margaret Acevedo. Services to be held at St. Helen’s Church in Oracle, Saturday, July 12 at 9:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Oracle Cemetery. Que en paz descansa.

APODACA, Alex, of Tucson, died July 7, 1997. He was born in Jaroso, Colorado. He is survived by the mother of his children, Sarah Apodaca; children, Sandi Strom, Vicki McCall, Alex and Hollie Apodaca; grandchildren, Dion Foreman, Jason Apodaca and April Apodaca; sisters, Bernice Quesada and Elenor Apodaca; along with many nieces and nephews. Alex served in World War II, the Korean War and in Vietnam. He retired from the USAF and became the owner of Alex Air Service. Friends may call on Thursday, July 10, 1997 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N.Columbus. A Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 11, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Chapel #1. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. BECSI, John, age 70, of Tucson, died Monday, June 23, 1997. John worked at Kitt Peak National Observatory until his retirement in 1989, after 25 years of service. He was an active member of Aaron Masonic Lodge #49 F.&A.M., Order of York Rite and Scottish Rite. He was also a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church since 1955. John is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, June; daughter, Jewel (Timothy) Ferell of Tucson; grandson, Bradley, whom he loved dearly; sister, Rosa (Richard) Donaway of Florida; sister-in-law, Marie Becsi of Pennsylvania. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church Friday, July 11, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. James Lundeen and Rev. Charles Riggs and Aaron Lodge #49 officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church Memorial Garden Fund, 1949 E. Helen, 85719, in John’s name. Richard Borquez, 51, of Tucson, passed away July 6, 1997. Preceded in death by father, Raymundo Borquez. Survived by wife, Yolanda Borquez; mother, Josephine V.
