MARION LOUISE (GRANNY) EVANS

Mrs. Marion Louise (Granny) Evans, age 70 of Triple R Garage Circle Blairsville passed away on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Evans was born on Aug. 7, 1935 in Ann Arbor, MI., The daughter of the late Stuart Holmes and the late Margaret Maples Evans. Mrs. Evans owned and operated Granny’s consignment shop in Blairsville for several years. Mrs. Evans was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Evans are one son, David (Bubba) Evans, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Misty Evans, Penny (Hunt) and David Roane, Peggy and Pete DeJoseph all of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Cathy Holmes of Waco, TX., two sisters and one brother in law, Kay and John Adamak of New Mexico, Gail Holmes of New Mexico, other family members include, Brandy Nicholson, George Schmeltz and Holly Albietz, eleven Grandchildren, Sheba, Cheyene and Dakota Herr, Billy and his wife Chasidy Schmeltz, Caleb and Dallas Mitchell, Kale and Terakah Evans, Morgan and Courtney Nicholson and Chance Schmeltz, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 26, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hubert Legg and Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday from 9-2 prior to the services.

WALTER WALLACE ISMOND

Mr. Walter Wallace Ismond, age 82 of Wesley Mountain Drive Blairsville passed away on Monday, Dec. 26, 2005 at his home following a brief illness. He was born on Sept. 3, 1923 in Cadillac, MI., The son of the late Wallace Ismond and the Minnie Anderson Ismond. He graduated from Houghton Lake High School. He worked at Fords in Ypsilanti, MI., prior to joining the Navy on Jan. 12, 1943. He served in the Asiatic Pacific and was discharged on Jan. 1945. Walter worked at several different jobs, ending up in Ann Arbor, where he joined the Army on Dec. 2, 1947.Most of his 20 plus Army career was spent in Japan, Germany, Austria and the United States as a Master Sergeant Specialist in Personnel Accounting. He retired from the Army in 1964.After his retirement, He worked for the USDA and a trailer factory in Plainville, MI. He moved to Murphy, NC. in 1985.Walter was active in the Hiawassee Dam Fire Dept. and was a member of several Square dancing clubs. He moved to Branan Lodge in Sept. 2003.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Morrison D., and sisters, Nellie June Kuns and Helen LOUISE Kinsey. He is survived by his sister and brother in law, Leona and James Turner of Blairsville, GA, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006 at 11:00 am from Branan Lodge. Interment will follow in the Fort Custer National cemetery in Battle Creek, MI. The family will meet with friends following the services. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Branan Lodge Celebration of Services in Walter’s memory.

RONNIE JONES

Mr. Ronnie Jones, age 50 of W. Anderson Rd. Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 following a brief illness. Mr. Jones was born on May 12, 1955 in Towns County, The son of Ollie King Jones and the late I.V. Jones. He was a lifelong resident of Union County. Ronnie’s favorite hobby was pitching horse shoes. He loved his cat named Rosie which had owned for several years. Mr. Jones was a member of Victory Baptist Church and had attended Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Jones are his mother, Ollie King Jones of Blairsville, Sister and brother in law, Diane and Sam Robinson of Gainesville, GA, Nephew, Christopher Cornett, Uncles, Grady Jones, J. B., Ovell, Vernon and Troy King, Aunt, Kathleen Brackett, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005 at 11:00 am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Special music will be presented by the New Life Singers. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Arlin Everett, Jerry Everett, Charles Totherow, Raymond King, Terry Everett and Scott Jones. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-9 pm.

PHILLIP LUKE BARNETT

Phillip Luke Barnett, age 19 of Chatham Rd. Blairsville passed away on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005 in Lumpkin County following injuries received in an automobile accident. Luke was born on Dec. 31, 1985 in Hall County, GA, The son of Phillip Joel Barnett and Virginia Maxine Tignor Barnett. He was a lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County School system. Luke was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Luke are his parents, Maxine Barnett of Blairsville and Phillip Barnett of Lawrenceville, GA, Two sisters and one brother in law, Allison and Mark Thorsen of Cumming, GA, Britton Naomi Barnett of Deluth, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeff and Teresa Barnett of Savannah, GA, Robert and Susan Barnett of Blairsville, Grandparents, Troy and Joy Tignor of Snellville, Bobbie Barnett of Lawrenceville, Nieces and nephews, Natalie Thorsen, Ryan Marie Barnett and Isiah Barnett, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating. Special music will be presented by Casey Jones and Scott Lance. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Chris and Bo McClure, Jarod Berger, Jeff and Robert Barnett, Jeremy Huggins, Wes Summers, Caleb Tignor, Kevin Terry, Dusty Huggins and Jonathan Barclay. Interment will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6-9 pm.

JOAN MARIE GAETA

Mrs. Joan Marie Gaeta of Hiawassee, GA entered her new life in Christ on July 17th, 2007 at the age of 68. A life-long non-smoker, Joan waged a courageous three year fight against lung cancer. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 21st at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2839 Young Harris Highway, Blairsville, GA, 30512. A gathering of friends and family will take place afterward at Mountain Presbyterian Church next door. Joan was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Celtruda of Ossining, New York. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Richard J. Gaeta, her five children, Maria and husband John Cressler of Smyrna, GA, Theresa and husband Roger Andretta of Woodstock, GA, Richard J. Gaeta, Jr. and wife Sherri of Acworth, GA, Christina and husband Richard Pink, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Joseph A. Gaeta and wife Alexa of Austell, GA, and twelve grandchildren. Also survived are her sister, Mary Ellen Tanaka of Rochester, MN and her brother Joseph Celtruda of Hopewell Junction, NY. Joan received her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine as well a Masters in Education from Oglethorpe College in Atlanta, GA. After leaving New York and then Connecticut, she was a Georgia resident for 32 years, living in Roswell and Macon before retiring to Hiawassee. Joan was a full-time homemaker as well as a part-time Math tutor and substitute teacher. When her children left her nest, she began teaching English, math, and religion at St. Jude the Apostle Elementary School in Atlanta and later at St. Joseph’s in Macon. Service to others was always priority for Joan as evidenced by her work with the Glennmary Home Missions (a Catholic ministry for the rural poor), her work as a volunteer tutor at the Nazareth Home in Macon (a group facility for un-wed teenagers), and her volunteer efforts at St. Joseph’s Community Outreach in Macon (distributing food to those in need). Joan was active in each church parish she ever belonged to. Among her other church roles, she has been a extraordinary minister to the sick, a liturgical minister, the coordinator of art and environment, a choir member, and a bookkeeper. Joan was also very active in various social activities. An avid reader, she was always a member of a book club. She enjoyed social get-togethers and group aerobic exercise. Joan was the vice-president of the Roswell Historical Society in the late 1970s. As a retiree at age 63, she began taking art classes for the first time, taking up watercolor painting as a hobby and becoming extremely adept at it. She will be missed greatly by all those who knew and loved her – family and friends and everyone touched by her life. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Lung Cancer Alliance is welcomed. RANDAL CLINTON MCDONALD

Mr. Randal Clinton McDonald, age 36 of Garrett Rd. Blairsville, GA, formerly of Athens, TN., passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 following an apparent heart attack. Mr. McDonald was born on Feb. 21, 1971 in Loudon County, TN., the son of Jerry Allen McDonald and Carolyn Howard McDonald. He was a loving husband and a friend to all who knew him, and will be greatly missed by all. Mr. McDonald was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. McDonald are his loving wife, Olivia Wilson McDonald of Blairsville, two children, Felicity and Trey Wilson of Blairsville, father and step mother, Jerry and Roberta McDonald of Loudon, TN., mother and step father, Carolyn and John Hensley of Athens, TN., step father, William A. Stephens of Winfield, TN., three sisters and one brother in law, Melissa Redman of Athens, TN., Crystal Hopping of Loudon, TN., Melissa and Willard Martin of Oneida, TN., two brothers and one sister-in-law, Anthony and Sherri Stephens of Niota, TN., Billy Stephens of Oneida, TN., mother in law, Barbara Wilson of Blairsville, sister-in-law, Ashley Grant of Blairsville, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 11:00am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Special music will be presented by Tammy Hughes. Interment and graveside services will follow at 5:00pm from the Loudon County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lenoir City, TN. with the Rev.Chris Hamilton officiating.The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-9pm.

RICHARD LEE McADAMS

Mr. Richard Lee (Mac) McAdams Sr., age 78 of Holly Cove Circle Blairsville, GA, formerly of Winter Haven, FL, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. McAdams was born on Jan. 31, 1929 in Greensboro, NC., the son of the late Clarence and Jessie Wilson McAdams. He was a veteran of the US Navy of the Korean War. He was employed for over thirty years with Independent Life Insurance company. Richard enjoyed the beach and the mountains of NC. and GA. He loved to go camping and just sitting around a camp fire. He spent many hours with his woodworking projects and his painting. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thaddeus and C. E. McAdams. Mr. McAdams was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. McAdams are his loving wife, Donna McAdams of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Clare McAdams of Orlando, FL, one daughter, Shelley Henderson of Tallahassee, FL, one step daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Jimmy Edwards of Lynn Haven, FL, grandchildren, Ann Bumgardner of Wilmington, NC., Richard W. McAdams of Washington, DC., Sam McAdams of Winter Haven, FL, Casey Henderson, Brooke Henderson and Bailey Henderson all of Tallahassee, FL, step grandchildren, Mina and River C. Edwards both of Lynn Haven, FL, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles from NC. and SC., many other friends and relatives also survive.

A private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice in Richard’s memory.

ANN TONITA CHAMBERLIN

Mrs. Ann Tonita Chamberlin, age 59 of Copperhead Rd. Blairsville formerly of Clearwater, FL. passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Chamberlin was born on oct.10, 1947 in Waterberry. CT., the daughter of the late Ray Villanueva and the late Esperanza Sanduli Villanueva. She was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Villanueva in 2006. Mrs.Chamberlin was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Clearwater, FL.

Surviving Mrs. Chamberlin are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Elizabeth Lindsey of Blairsville, two daughters and one son-in-law, Nina and Edward Broyles of Clearwater, FL, Lori Lindsey of Clearwater, FL, seven grandchildren, Hope, Wesley, Sarah, Jonathan, Julia, Danielle, Nadia, Harmony and Michael, Special friends, Gladys Adams, Doris Chamberlin, Linda Mears and Cash, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A private memorial service will be held in Florida at a later date. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to St. Judes Hospital in Mrs. Chamberlin’s memory.

NANDO LEE BROWN

Lee Brown, age 79 of Cut Cane Rd. Mineral Bluff, GA, passed away on Monday, Nov. 21, 2005 following an extended illness. Mr. Brown was born on Dec. 15, 1925 in Union County, The son of the late Ed Harrison Brown and the late Voleta Nix Brown. He retired from the Tennessee Chemical Company of Copperhill with over sixteen years of service. He was a Veteran of the US Navy of WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalee Flowers Brown in 1998.Mr. Brown was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Brown are one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Charlie Brown of Culberson, NC., two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles (Jeff) and Clea Brown of Ducktown, TN., Edward and Rita Brown of Murphy, one brother and sister-in-law, Franklin and Doris Brown of Blairsville, Eight Grandchildren, Ray, Rosa and Johnny Waldroup. Charles Eddie, Nathan Nando, Carol Ann, Lee and Ruth Brown, one Great-Grandchild, Tony Waldroup, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 25, 2005 at 2:00 pm from Mount Herman Baptist church with the Rev. Charlie Raper, Rev. Scott Ware and Rev. Gene Ware officiating. Special music will be presented by Charlotte and Robert Flowers and Wiladene Ware. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Steven and Cecil Brown, Randy McClure, Max Moore, Nathan Rogers and Charles Eddie Brown. Interment will follow in the Mount Herman Baptist church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 1-2 pm on Friday. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening after 6:00 pm.
