Don McElroy

Don R. McElroy, 62, of Auburn, died on Wednesday December 12, 2001 at his residence.
He was born September 15, 1939 at Holliday, Illinois, the son of Paul J. and Jessie M. Randall McElroy. He married Joyce Tucker on March 29, 1957 and married Theresa M. Conover on March 19, 1983.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa; six daughters, Debra and husband Mike Reed of Beecher City; Pamela and husband Eddy Watson of Cowden; Amy and husband Evan Schaefer of Beecher City; Stephanie McElroy of Beecher City; Annalisa Ladage of Auburn; Jaclyn McElroy of Auburn; one son Jared McElroy of Auburn, six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; one sister, Sandy and husband Dean Giles of Beecher City; two brothers, Butch McElroy of Cowden and Keith and wife Nancy Switzer of Cowden; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by two brothers and one grandson.
Visitation will be at Lockart & Sons Funeral Home in Cowden.
Friends will call from 12:30 P.M. on Saturday, December 15 until service time at 2:30 PM with Rev. Marlin Miller officiating. Burial in Mound Cemetery in Cowden.

Charles Skates
Pana
Charles W. Skates, 88, of Pana, died on December 10, 2001 at 2:36 p.m. in Heritage Manor in Pana.
He was born on April 4, 1913 in Pana, the son of Harvey and Mary King Skates.
He was a wholesaler for Illinois Roses and lived in Pana for the past 20 years.
He married Genevieve Barnett Morrison, she preceded him in death on January 23, 1998.
He is survived by his children, James R. Skates of Lockport, Illinois and Beverly Boyd of Petersburg, Virginia. Seven grandchildren; Mona, JoAnne, Bill, Brenda, Yvonne, Bernie and Becky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister and two brothers.
Visitation will be on Saturday December 22 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
Memorials services will be on Saturday December 22, 2001 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m.
Inurnment will be in Linwood Cemetery in Pana.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Vernon Thompson
Effingham
Vernon F. Thompson, 90, of Effingham, died at 11:33 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 in the St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. on Sunday December 16, at The First Christian Church in Effingham.
Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Effingham.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham and one hour before services at the church.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church and the Shiners Children's Hospitals.
He was born on May 22, 1911 in Melrose Park, Illinois, the son of Julian and Ruby (Brown) Thompson.
He married Bette V. Burk in 1939. She died on October 23, 1994.
He was a retired professional truck driver and owner and operator of Thompson Locksmith Shop.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, the Masonic Lodge #149, Scottish Rite Bodies of Danville, Ainad Shrine Temple of East St. Louis, Effingham Heart Shrine Club, VFW and American Legion both of Effingham and a long time member of the National Trail Amateur Radio club, Effingham Order of Eastern Star. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army of W.W. II.
He is survived by his son Stephen B. and wife Kathleen of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Stacy (Thompson) O'Dea and husband Dan of Louisville, KY; Jill Thompson and future husband Todd Solon of Chicago and one great granddaughter, Madalyn O'Dea of Louisville, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter and one brother.

Ferna Mae Prosser Chapman
Shelbyville
Ferna Mae Prosser Chapman, 98, of Shelbyville passed away at 1:50 a.m., Saturday, December 15, 2001 in the Shelbyville Manor in Shelbyville.
Mrs. Chapman was born January 6, 1903 in Shelbyville, the daughter of W. Scott and Nellie E. Dildine Prosser.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Shelbyville and formerly worked at Sta-Rite Ginnie Lou Corporation in Shelbyville.
She married Morris Chapman in Shelbyville July 28, 1923 and he passed away March 6, 1986.
Surviving are sons Melvin Chapman and wife Betty of Victorville, CA and Merle Chapman and wife Beverly of Findlay; thirteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and ten great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Morris, daughter Pauline Clawson, son Loren Chapman, her parents, two grandchildren, brothers Lawrence Prosser and Carroll Scott Prosser and sister Reatha Cordray.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2001 in the Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Dr. Paul Pryor will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.
Our family would like to thank her extended family at the Shelbyville Manor for their compassionate care and friendship.

Louise Perry
Sullivan
Louise Perry, 75 of Sullivan died at 11:30 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2001 in the Moweaqua Retirement Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with the Pastor Mark Sanders officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Private family graveside services will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Louise was born October 30, 1926 in Owensboro, Kentucky the daughter of Moses R. and Rebecca Cook Stewart. She was a homemaker and was of the Christian faith. She married Esther Elsworth 'Dusty' Perry on May 2, 1953 in Litchfield, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on September 30, 1976.
Surviving are her sons, George Randall Sapp of Owensboro, Ky, Steve Edward Perry and his wife Betty of Taylorville, Scott Elsworth Perry and his wife Terry of Shelbyville, Sonny Eugene Perry and his wife Brenda of Flora, Spencer Earl Perry and his wife Carrie of Sullivan; daughters, Sandra Evon Barnes and her husband Rick of Sullivan, Susan Elaine Moon of Sullivan; brothers, James Earl Stewart and his wife Carol of Hammond, Indiana, Guy Richard Stewart of Owensboro, Ky; sister, Joan Campbell and her husband Robert of Owensboro, Kentucky; seventeen grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters and two brothers.

Virginia Hartman
Findlay
Virginia R. Hartman, 89, of Findlay passed away at 5:00 PM on Friday, December 14, 2001 in the Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville.
Mrs. Hartman was born on April 5, 1912 in Arthur, the daughter of Orville and Laura Hunsaker Makepeace.
She was a member of the Shelby County Home Extension and the American Business Women's Association and was a volunteer for the Shelby County Chapter of the American Red Cross. She formerly was employed by Sta-Rite Ginnie Corporation of Shelbyville and the United States Civil Service. She also had been a legal secretary for the law firm of Dove and Dove in Shelbyville.
She married Paul P. Hartman in June of 1930 in Crown Point, IN. and he passed away September 29, 1968.
Surviving are a son, Mike Hartman and wife Janet of Findlay; granddaughter, Susan Arthur and husband Larry of Findlay; great grandson, Brandon Arthur of Boulder, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Findlay.

Ernest McBride, 88, of Findlay died at 12:35 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2001 at his residence.
Arrangements are incomplete at Lockart & Sons Funeral Home in Findlay.

Ethel Laverne Halleman
Pana
Ethel Laverne Halleman, 91, of Pana, died on Tuesday, December 25, 2001 in the Heritage Manor in Pana.
She was born on May 16, 1910 in Pana, the daughter of Otto and Effie Driskel Wieneke.
She lived in Pana until her marriage to Armine Halleman on September 30, 1933 in the Methodist Church in Nokomis.
She and her husband moved to Ohlman, Illinois while he was associated with the funeral home in Nokomis. They moved to Alhambra in 1956 and then to Marine in 1960 where she and her late husband were owners of Halleman Funeral Home, Marine, now Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home.
She was a member of the Marine United Church of Christ, Women's Guild and former member of the church choir; past member and past Matron of Unitey Chapter 403 Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son, Norman Halleman and wife Gay of Hilton Head Island, SC; three grandchildren Tracy Tarry of Bronxville, N.Y.; Kirby Carr of New York City, NY; Edward Halleman of Dallas Texas; three great grandchildren and her sister Evelyn Cloninger of Pana.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 10, 1976; three sisters, Mildred Miles, Marian Nantkes and LaVonne Wieneke.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be on Friday, December 28, 2001 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. David Kniker officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, in rural Nokomis.

Helen Mose
Shelbyville
Helen L. Mose, 77, of Shelbyville, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 25, 2001 in Shelbyville Manor.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. There will be no visitation. Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mose was born on February 12, 1924 in Shelby County, the daughter of Lloyd and Mae Dilley Walborn. Her employment's included the Lidster Hotel, Westervelt Schools and Shelbyville Restorium. She attended the Henton Church of God. She married Earl C. Mose on January 8, 1942 and he died on December 17, 1950.
Survivors include son, Gaylord Mose of Clermont, Florida; daughters, Marjorie Milby, Delores Blackwell and husband Glenn both of Shelbyville and Janet Randolph and husband Bob of Murphysboro; brother, Lloyd William Walborn and wife Marilyn of Harrisburg; 13 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 9 step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one son, David Mose.
