Ruth Scribner Rich '41, March 6, 1999, in Portland, Maine, at 80. She was an English teacher in several Maine schools during World War II. Later she was a homemaker, church worker and volunteer in community organizations and projects. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Edwin S. Rich, a daughter, two sons, a sister and five grandchildren.
Peter J. Coney '51, February 20, 1999, in Tucson, Ariz., at 59. He was a world-renowned geologist who taught at the University of Arizona. Survivors include Darlene A. Coney.
Robert V. Reid '51, January 1, 1999, in Salem, Mass., at 69. For more than 35 years he was director of finance for the Honeywell Corporation in various locations in the United States. Surviving are his wife, Sheila, a son, two sisters and two granddaughters.
Jacqueline Dillingham Schlier '51, June 18, 1999, in Concord, Mass., at 69. She was a laboratory technician and served on the staffs at Brown University and Children's Hospital in Boston, Mass. She also worked as a paraprofessional and substitute teacher in the Concord elementary schools. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Robert, two sons, three daughters, her father and eight grandchildren.
Janet Clark Winters '51, June 22, 1999, in Biddeford, Maine, at 69. She was a teacher in Omaha, Neb., for several years before she moved into real estate. For a time she operated her own agency. Since 1990 she was employed as the town clerk of Kennebunkport, Maine. Surviving are her son, Timothy Winters, two daughters, Barbara Anderson and Susan Normandin, a brother and sister and four grandchildren.
James E. Lambert '66, March 9, 1999, in Vineyard Haven, Mass., at 54. He served as manager, vice president and president during a long career in banking in Maine and Massachusetts. Survivors include his wife, Judy, and three children.
Barbara Hamlin Hladky '52, May 7, 1999, in Pré-en-Pail, France, at 68. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate, she earned a Fulbright Scholarship at the Sorbonne. She retired to France in 1985 after teaching English and foreign languages in the South Portland, Maine, school system. Surviving are her husband, Francis Hladky, three sons and a daughter.
Nancy Newman Tibbetts '52, March 12, 1999, in Portland, Maine, at 69. She received a master's degree in social work from Boston University and was a clinical social worker at Community Counseling Center in Portland for 30 years. Surviving are her husband, Earl Tibbetts, her daughter, her brother and her cousin Carol Carlson Van Alstyne '53.
George C. De Luna '53, July 6, 1999, in New York, at 66. For more than 30 years he served as vice president at Citibank, Security Pacific and Irving Trust in New York, London and Toronto. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Estes De Luna '58, three sons, his mother and brother.
Paul K. McDermott '54, August 7, 1998, in Providence, R.I., at 65. A Korean Conflict veteran, he was a Wall Street petroleum analyst for 25 years before his retirement. Besides his wife of 40 years, Priscilla, he leaves a son, a daughter and five grandchildren.
William R. Thompson '56, February 27, 1999, in Wayland, Mass., at 64. A financial manager for General Electric Corp. and Digital Equipment Corp. before he retired, he also was an active community volunteer. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Hennings Thompson '56, a daughter, a sister, Anne Thompson Hennessy '52, and a stepbrother.
