Gene Leroy "Buttons" Smith, son of Vernon Hamilton Smith and Edith Wallingford Smith, was death by his parents.
His survivors include his close aunt, Ida Arnold, LaFeria, Texas; an uncle, Bill Wallingford, Mulvane, Kan.; close friends Mr. and Mrs. Herval Porter and Marianne Goodwater, all of Ava; aunts, uncles, his friends at Ava Place, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at Murray passed away April 6 after a short illness.
He was death by his parents, a brother, Roy, and a granddaughter, Cheyanne.
Ellis was a member of the Church of the Living God. He loved playing music at church and with the Booger County Bluegrass Band.
As he donated his body to the medical school, there will be no funeral, but a musical memorial will be held on May 19 at the Wagon Wheel Park, Mtn. Grove.
James N. "Jim" Rhodes, 81

James Noal "Jim" Rhodes, son of George Washington Rhodes and Susie Katherine Owens Rhodes, was born. He attended the Ava General Baptist Church. Jim's hobbies were fishing, and he enjoyed working on sewing machines and woodworking. He loved being with his family.
He was preceded in Interment will follow in the Fannon born May 12, 1917, in Independence, Mo., and departed this life April 18, 2007, at the age of 89.
Mary was a resident of the Ava area since 1980 moving here from Inglewood, Calif. Mary and Charles Arthur Melton were united in marriage on June 6, 1939 in Ava. Mr. Melton preceded Mary in death were her parents, and one sister, Eleanor Walters.
Mary is survived by six children, Charles "Chuck" Melton Jr., Ava, Dennis W. Melton, state of Georgia, Mary Beth Melton, Reading, Mass., and Patricia Wenke, David Melton and James Melton, all of the state of California; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Peggy Tucker, Pleasant Hill; an honorary son, Don Boden; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in the Mound Grove born Oct. 29, 1920, in Ada, Okla. She departed this life Sunday, April 22, 2007, in Delmar Gardens on the Green, in Chesterfield, Mo., at the age of 86.
On Nov. 19, 1937, she was united in marriage to Ralph Van Williams Sr., and to this union three sons and three daughters were death by her husband, Van, on Aug. 5, 2006; her parents; a step-grandson, Travis Query; two brothers, Elzie and Bill Reed; and four sisters, Alta Hodges, Billie Reed, Vinita Tallman, and Sylvia Simmons.
Juanita is survived by three sons, Philip Williams, and his wife, Leota, of Warsaw, Stephen Williams, and his wife, Sherry, of Springfield, Van Williams Jr. and his wife, Debra, of West Plains; three daughters, Carol Merritt and her husband, Homer, of Sparta, Donna Green and her husband, Bill, of Sikeston, and Trudy Williams, of Ballwin; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Merle Reed, and his wife, Willie, of Ada, Okla.; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was married Van and they started their family in Mansfield and then moved to Erie, Kan. They also lived in Bradleyville, Ava, and later moved to Ozark.
Juanita had made her profession of faith in Christ and was affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene.
In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, embroidering, and making beautiful quilts. She also loved cooking wonderful meals for her family.
Juanita was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) in Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Mansfield, with the Rev. Van Williams Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield born June 6, 1933, in Massachusetts and departed this life April 28, 2007, in Springfield, at the age of 73.
Richard was a resident of Squires, for the past 1 1/2 years, moving here from California. He was employed as a sheet metal engineer with Northrop in California for 30 years.
Richard was a veteran and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He served with the U.S. Army for four years and the Merchant Marines for four years.
Richard was a Christian and attended the Highway Church of the Nazarene. He loved his family dearly and thoroughly enjoyed fishing.
Richard was preceded in Cemetery south of Ava with Pastor Mark Hatcher officiating. Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
