Ivan Henderson Arnold, 79

Ivan Henderson Arnold was married Phyllis Jean Dunwoody and to this union three children were death by his parents, Arthur and Edna Arnold, one brother, Clifford Arnold, one sister, Lavonne Buck, and two granddaughters, Katrina Kilgore and Andrea Arnold.
After he finished his education in Iowa, Ivan worked in the local sawmills and drove trucks before working several years for John Morrell Meat Packing. At the age of 30, Ivan accepted the call to preach and moved his young family to Cincinnati, Ohio to attend God's Bible School. From there they moved to Bartlesville, Okla., where he completed his studies at the Pilgrim Holiness Central College. At the age of 33 he started the first church of his ministry in the family home. Later he bought an old store building with living quarters and opened the Church of God (Holiness) in Albia, Iowa.
In 1966 he once again moved his family; this time to Ava, for the children to attend Mt. Zion Bible School. He worked for Kerr-Gaston Chevrolet-Olds in Ava and Leo Holmes Ford in Mansfield. He also served as boy's monitor, mechanics teacher, and maintenance man at Mt. Zion Bible School, a position he held until he entered the hospital in January for aortic valve replacement.
In addition to his Mt. Zion duties, he pastored intermittently.
Ivan had many affectionate names such as “Curly”, “Private Fuzz”, and “Chester.”
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 59 years, Phyllis; his children; one brother, Jerry, of Leona, Wisc.; one sister, Pearl Ade, of Milwaukee, Wisc.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
His life reflected a quiet and gentle dignity that left its mark on all who knew him. He handled his person and his affairs with meticulous precision. His love for God and the work of God was manifested in his life and in his testimony. He fought a good fight, he finished his course, and his resolve carried him at last to a triumphal entry to his eternal home. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who loved him.
Services were held Monday, April 17, at 2 p.m., at the Mt. Zion gymnasium, Ava. Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday, April 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava. The family requests memorials to the Mt. Zion Bible School or Gideons International in care of the funeral home. Services were conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Dennis M. Goforth, 57

Dennis Mac Goforth, 57, Brookline, was born three children: Teresa, Rebecca and Matt.
Dennis spent his life building homes in the Nixa/Springfield area. He was devoted to the Lord Jesus and graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in Tulsa, Okla. in 2000. He was a loving husband and wonderful father.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Dianna; daughters, Teresa L. and husband, Joe Mayer, and Rebecca M. and husband, Jay Moore; a son, Matt and fiancé, Jaime Lang; grandsons, Joseph D. Mayer and William E. Mayer; a granddaughter, Rianna E. Mayer; his mother, Vernita Clem; a brother, Nyal Goforth and wife, Gracie; sisters, Pauline Thompson and husband, Chuck, and Kathy Arbuckle and husband, Ronnie; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in Walnut Lawn Funeral Home chapel, Springfield. Burial followed in Delaware born on July 4, 1909 to Cornelius Buckvest Dean and Amanda (Johnson) Dean at Brown Branch in Taney County.
She went to her heavenly reunion on Friday, April 21, 2006 at her Aldrich home.
Mrs. Marsh had returned to Missouri in August 2004, after a 70-year absence. She moved to California in 1936 where she met and death in 1972. She was a former resident of Yucaipa, Calif.
She was preceded in passed away May 2, 2006, in Desoto Healthcare, Southaven, Miss.
A former superintendent of schools at Ava, he was retired from the education department for the state of Missouri. He was a member of Hernando United Methodist Church, Hernando, Miss.
He is survived by a brother, H.D. Brewer and wife, Frances, of Hernando, Miss.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hernando Funeral Home where visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Joe Ann Spurlin, 65

Joe Ann Spurlin, the daughter of Marion Lee Parsons and Dessie (Frye) Parsons, was death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, of the home, Ava; one daughter, Jill Olson and husband, George, Springfield; two sons, Jeff Spurlin and wife, Kris, Ava, and Joe Spurlin and wife, Rhonda, Springfield; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; one sister, Barbara Murray, Conway, Ark.; one brother, James Taber, Ava; a special friend, Joyce Clinkingbeard; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating. Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 7 p.m.. in the funeral home. The family requests memorials be made to Community Hospice.

Viola (Jenkins) Wilks, 84

Viola Faye (Jenkins) Wilks, 84, of East Wenatchee, Wash., born to Audie and Izoria Jenkins on March 25, 1922, at Roy, Mo., where she grew up in the beautiful Ozarks. Her mother married her first husband, Everett Bricker, in Missouri. They traveled west, working in orchards and farms from California to Washington, and lived in Wapato and Toppenish for a few years while beginning their family.
They moved to East Wenatchee and had another son. They continued working in the orchards until Everett’s untimely married Herbert Wilks in May 1951. A daughter was died, Viola continued running the orchard until 1994 when she sold the property and built a small house in town. Viola enjoyed attending Washington State retiree meetings and luncheons. She also enjoyed gardening, swimming at the YMCA and going on five to 10 mile walks on the Columbia River trails and around her neighborhood. She was a fan of the Seattle Mariners and Harley-Davidson motorcycles at festival time.
Viola is survived by her children, Sandra Bricker and Kathy Spencer, of Wenatchee, Wash., Everetta Stephenson, of Wichita, Kan., Bud Bricker, of Everett, Wash., and Melvin Bricker, of Vallejo, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Goldie Miller, Ruby Miller, Ora Johnson and Audrey Huffman, all of Ava, Martha Schneider, of Yakima, Was., and Lorene Byrd, of Mtn. Grove.
Graveside services were held at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee on May 5.
