Doris Anderson Gettys, 78, of Springfield, formerly of Ava, was Cemetery, with the Rev. John Moles officiating. Visitation was held prior to the service at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
The family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society or Douglas County Historical Society.

Sherell L. Stout, daughter of Pauline D. Percifield Stout, was Interment followed in the Hilo born on Feb. 4, 1942 in Long Beach, Calif., to Jean McFarland Coverdale and Gordon Keith Coverdale.
At an early age, Terry could win the hearts of everyone around her. During her life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend and journalist, she was most renowned as a storyteller.
As a journalism student at SMU in Dallas Texas, Terry worked as an intern for the Dallas Morning News. Her first beat assignment was the Amusement Department; a perfect fit for Terry's personality. After SMU's graduation, Terry began her early career as a general assignment reporter with the Dallas Times Herald. During her time at the city desk, JFK was assassinated and she was assigned coverage of the Lee Harvey Oswald burial. Her writing earned her recognition and awards, most notably the Media Award from the America Red Cross for her compassionate report on flooding in South Dallas.
Thomas Henry Brennan caught Terry's eye and affection while he was a pre-law student at SMU. He later became the love of her life. They death by her father, Gordon Keith Coverdale.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Brennan of Springfield; children, Donald Brennan and wife Carla, San Antonio, Texas, Rebecca Schrock and husband Wally, of Nixa, and Claire Spence and husband, Robert, of Springfield; and six grandchildren, Margaret, Thomas and Patrick Finnegan Brennan, all of San Antonio, Texas, and Robert, Thomas and Alexander Spence, all of Springfield. Grandchild number 7 who will be named, Terry, is due to be born Dec. 12, 1941 in Roland, Okla., and departed this life Sept. 25, 2007 in Mission, Texas, at the age of 65 years 9 months and 13 days.
Gary was a resident of Mission, Texas since 1984. He was self-employed as an airplane mechanic. On May 24, 1973 Gary and Brenda Paul were united in marriage in Miami, Okla. Gary was blessed with a son, Brian. Gary made a confession of faith in Christ shortly before his death by his parents; a sister, June; and two brothers, Billy Joe Wilson and Ronald Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda, of the home, Mission, Texas; one son, Brian Wilson and his wife, Robin, of LaVilla, Texas; four sisters, Peggy Hall, Glenda Rowland, Judy Wilson, all of Roland, Okla., and Mary Hamilton, Fort Smith, Ark.; one brother, Bob Wilson, Roland, Okla.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in Girdner born Aug. 14, 1912 in Douglas County. She departed this life Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007 in Rocky Ridge Manor, Mansfield, at the age of 95 years, one month
and 23 days.
In 1929, Irene was united in marriage to Elmer J. Giffin and to this union five sons and four daughters were death by her parents; her husband, Elmer in 1987; two sons, Noel and Wayne Giffin; three daughters, Anna Jo Graves, Sharon Davis and an infant daughter; one grandson, Dennis; a great-granddaughter, Stephanie; a great-grandson, Michael; as well as two brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by three sons, Ellis Giffin and his wife, Dorothy, of Jenks, Okla., Norman Giffin and his wife Lela, of Seymour, and Marvin Giffin and his wife, Bunida of Mansfield; one daughter, Beverly Freeman and her husband, Calvin, of Neosho; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jackie Dill, of Hannaford, Calif.; along with many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was passing. She was an employee at the Tobin Hamilton Shoe Factory where she worked for 16 years before retiring.
Irene was of the Pentecostal faith.
In her spare time, Irene enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and tending to her beautiful flowers. She loved to share her fresh and canned vegetables with her friends and family, and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she loved very much.
Irene was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield, with the Rev. Mark Terrill officiating. Burial will be in Dyer Cemetery in Douglas County.
