Marian Celesta Montgomery Pettit, 84, was passed away on Dec. 11, 2005, surrounded by her family, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Joplin.
On Valentine's Day in 1939, Marian met Howard H. Pettit on a blind date while following his swing band. They were married for almost 64 years when he death by her parents and her beloved Howard.
She is survived by one son H. Bruce Pettit and wife, Pam, of Ava; two daughters, Carole Hayes, of Joplin, and Marsha Cowan and husband, Ron, of Rolla; five grandchildren Kelsea and Richelle Pettit of Ava, Shannon Bruffy and husband Bill of Oronogo, Matthew Cowan of Columbia, and Michael Cowan, of Rolla; two great-grandchildren, Bill and Emily Bruffy, of Oronogo; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, in the Ava United Methodist Church under the direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Oren Alcorn and Greg Dowler officiating. Burial will follow in the Ava passed away Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in St. John’s Hospital following a long illness.
Mary was death by her father, James Edward (Edd) Garrison.
Mary is survived by her mother, Eva Garrison; her loving and devoted husband, Les; four sons, Rex Dinwiddie, David Dinwiddie and his wife, Dhana, Hillsboro, Texas, Steve Dinwiddie and his wife, Michelle, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Scott Dinwiddie, Sparta; one daughter, Julie Hogue and her husband, Gene, Buffalo; six grandchildren, Luke, Shannon, Cody and Jules Dinwiddie, Jared and Colton Hogue; three sisters, Joyce Duke, Ozark, Janice Stewart and husband, Steve, Springfield, and Edna Lawson, Springfield; one brother, J.R. Garrison and his wife, Pam, Ava; and one special aunt, Clarice Williams, Springfield, who was raised in her home as a sister; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
Services were held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, in Greenlawn South Funeral Home, Springfield, with the Rev. Bud Everett officiating. died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Woodland Manor, Springfield.
Doris was married Donald Young on January 14, 1939 in Waverly, Iowa. They later divorced. Doris died on Nov. 7, 1956. Doris died February l, 2000.
One of Doris' favorite things to do was make quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Those quilts will be cherished for life.
Besides Alfred and Loranz, Doris was preceded in interment following in the Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens born Oct. 26, 1927 in Ava, and departed this life Jan. 19, 2006 at the age of 78.
Elmer was a resident of the Ava area for the past 47 years. Elmer served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. He was employed as a truck driver for Welton Gravel for over 30 years. Elmer enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing.
On June 21, 1956 Elmer and Barbara Cox were united in marriage in Ava. They were blessed with three children.
Elmer was preceded in Interment was in the Ava born April 9, 1939, in Wasola, Mo., the son of Clifford Ralph Clayton and Elva Earnasteen (Fry) Clayton, and death by his father, Clifford R. Clayton.
His survivors include his mother, Elva Clayton, and one brother, Louin Ray Clayton and wife, Valerie, all of Squires; one niece; four nephews; many cousins and a host of friends.
Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 24, in the Oak Grove General Baptist Church, Wasola, with the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating. Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday, from 9 a.m. until service time.
Services were under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.

Dorothy J. Lafferty, 73, of Clinton, Iowa, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, born June 16, 1932, in Ava, Mo., the daughter of Preston and Efie (Harper) Williams.
She was united in marriage to Calvin Reed Lafferty on July 3, 1948, in Ava. After 57 years of marriage he preceded her in death by her husband, parents, one brother, one sister and a half brother.
Funeral services were held at Nelson Funeral Home in DeWitt, Iowa, on Friday Feb. 3, 2006, at 1 p.m. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park.
Memorials in the name of Dorothy Lafferty may be designated to the family.
