James A. Teegarden
James A. Teegarden, 68, of Windsor, Mo., died Saturday morning, May 5, 2007, at his home in Windsor. He was born April 16, 1939, in Elmira, Mo., the son of Pleasant Thomas Teegarden and Lucy (Mellon) Teegarden. James had two brothers, three sisters, and several half-brothers and half-sisters. On September 5, 1969, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., he married Arletta June Parker, who survives of the home. James and Arletta raised five children: Leanna Sue, Nancy June, Giles Richard, Dennis Allen and Jeanette Elaine. James was a route carrier, for the Kansas City Star, for over 20 years before his retirement. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend to all. James was a terrific man and will greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife, James is survived by wtwo sons, Giles Bowers and family, Grandview, Mo.; Dennis Bowers and family, Windsor, Mo.; three daughters, Leanna (Anna) Fannon and family, Windsor, Mo.; Nancy Dunbar and family, Windsor, Mo.; Jeanette Hargrave and family, Windsor, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and several half-brothers and half sisters. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 9, at 1 p.m. at the Polley Funeral Home, Lawson, Mo. Burial will be in the Elmira Cemetery, Elmira, Mo. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Polley Funeral Home, Lawson. A memorial fund has been established in memory of James and contributions may be left in care of the Polley Funeral Home.

James "Ralph" Trusty
James “Ralph” Trusty, Richmond, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Ralph was born on August 30, 1925, Carrollton, Mo., the son of Melbourne “Jasper” and Fanny (Lloyd) Trusty. He was married on April 2, 1951 to Beulah “Jean” DeTienne. He served in the Navy during WWII. Survivors include three daughters, Sarah K. Meservey and husband, Ralph, Chula, Mo., Linda Imogene DeVaul, Sugar Creek, Mo., and Brenda Sue Trusty, Chillicothe, Mo. Three sisters and one brother, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jean, two sons, Charles Eugene Chadwick and James Ralph Jr., and one daughter, Verna Martin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Polley Funeral Home, Richmond, Mo. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond, Mo. The family suggests memorials be given to the Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

James Dean Twitchell
James Dean Twitchell, 48, Independence, Mo., passed away Friday, May 4, 2007, at the Kansas City Hospice House, in Kansas City, Mo. James was born on January 30, 1959, son of Freddie Dale and Minnie (Kramer) Twitchell in Lexington, Mo. Freddie is survived by his father, Freddie Dale Twitchell, Neosha, Mo.; and brothers, Fred Twitchell, Jr. and Audie Twitchell, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Freddie was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie; and daughter, Rachel Twitchell. James will be cremated and a Celebration of his Life will take place at the family's residence in Excelsior Springs,Mo. on Sunday, May 13, 2007, between 2 - 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society. All arrangements under the direction of the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo., (816) 630-3388.

Sgt. John Taylor Wright
Sgt. John Taylor Wright, 59, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Liberty Hospital. He was born September 7, 1947, in Galt, Missouri, the son of Victor Kenneth and Emily Schooler Wright. He was married to his wife, Vicki Greenway Wright, June 18, 1967, of the home. He had been a Sergeant with the Clay County Sheriff Department for over thirty years. He began a fishing program for children called Operation Small Fry in 1995. He loved to share his love of fishing and all things outdoors to children who may not have the opportunity to learn to fish. John graduated from Maple Woods College where he received an Associates degree, State Highway Patrol Academy and several additional Law Enforcement Academies. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star and past member of the VFW. He served in the Army from 1965-1967. He is survived by his mother, Emily Wright; brother, Richard Wright, Pleasant Valley; sister, Linda LaSala, Excelsior Springs; and two sons and daughters in law, Robert Victor and Jeanne' Wright, and Russell Scott and Cathy Wright, Excelsior Springs. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Shane Johnson, Kaelyn Johnson, Alisha Wright, Connor Wright, Mason Wright and Taryn Wright. His grandchildren were the joy of his life. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Monday, May 21, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Services will be held Tuesday, May 22, 10:30 a.m., at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Burial will be at Crown Hill Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to Operation Small Fry. Donations can be sent to the Clay County Sheriff's Department/Small Fry, Attn. Melissa Reno, 12 S. Katherine Lucille Zupka
Katherine Lucille Zupka, 77, Louisburg, Kan., passed away Monday, April 2, 2007, at the Olathe Medical Center. Katherine was born September 29, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Andrew and Lucille Hill. On April 7, 1950, Katherine married Mr. Thomas C. Zupka. Survivors include two sons, Mark Zupka, Louisburg, Kan., and Matthew Zupka and wife, Beverly, Topeka, Kan.; one sister, Patricia Hornaday, Kansas City, Mo. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Thomas C. Zupka. A liturgical prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2007, at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Visitation will be held from 7 - 9 p.m. with a rosary at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a Catholic charity of the donor’s choice, or St. Ann Catholic Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Larry R. Harris, Sr.
Larry Ray "Bubby" Harris, Sr., 51, Lawson, Mo., passed away at his home on October 13, 2007. Larry was born on February 25, 1956 in Kansas City, Mo. He was married to Marsha Harris on January 15, 2005. He was employed by Dolt Construction. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Betty Harris. Survivors include his wife, Marsha, of the home; four children, Crystal, Misty, Jerald and Taylor; also four other children, Larry Jr., Latisha, Dylan and Cody; four grandchildren; three brothers, Wilfred Jr., Gary and Scottie Harris; three sisters, Connie Rathbun, Rose Leblanc and Teresa Dirck; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at the Polley Funeral Home, Lawson, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Larry Harris Trust Fund.

L. Marcelle Rusk
L. Marcelle Rusk, 84, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at her home. Marcelle was born on Aug. 11, 1922, in Versailles, Mo., the daughter of Roy E. and Grace Pearl (Yarnell) Wendleton. She was married to Marvin Tietjen in 1940; he preceded her in death in 1968. She then married William Russell Rusk in 1971, and he preceded her in death in 1977. Marcelle had worked for the old Excelsior Springs Hospital and then was a receptionist for Dr. Baldwin for several years. She was a past member of Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was an avid book reader and she enjoyed sewing and working in her yard. Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded by one brother, Henry Wendleton. Survivors include one daughter, Marcia Hiser and her husband, George, of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; one son, Ken Tietjen and his wife, Marcha, of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; grandchildren, Janet Stewart, Scott Stewart and his wife, Kathy, and Andrea Kramer and her husband, Eric; great-grandchildren, Kyle Davis, Jon Davis, Brett Davis and Laura Stewart; four siblings, Kaye Woods of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Faye Williams of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Geanne Schield of Illinois, and Mancel Wendleton of Excelsior Springs, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Excelsior Springs Hospital Hospice.

Marguerite Hyder
Marguerite Hyder, 92, Missouri City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Mrs. Hyder was born on October 13, 1914, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., the daughter of Joseph Richard and Mary Elizabeth (Unger) Camden. She was married to Alva D. Hyder on January 26, 1933, in Lawson, Mo. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2003. Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Allen, Gladstone, Mo., one son, Ronald Hyder, Richmond, Mo., one grandson, Jeff Allen, Excelsior Springs, Mo., one granddaughter, Julie Allen, Brooklyn, N.Y., and three great grandsons and one great granddaughter. Cremation with no planned services. Arrangements under the direction of Polley Funeral Home Excelsior Springs, Mo., 816-630-3388.

Nadine Pettet
Nadine Pettet, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Sunday, October 14, 2007. She was 88 years old. Survivors include one son, Ron Pettet, and his wife, Sue, Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Alberta White, and her husband, William, Washington, Mo.; brother and sister-in-laws; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 at 10:00 a.m., at the Assembly of God Church in Lawson, with interment in the St. Peters Cemetery in Washington, Mo. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Memorials may be made to the Lawson Assembly of God Church or Alaskan Home Missions.

Nell Widmer
Nell B. Widmer, 90, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Monday, October 29, 2007 at the Liberty Hospital. Mrs. Widmer was born on October 17, 1917 in Cameron, Mo., the daughter of Charles William and Elma (Ford) Burkett. She served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, where she was a lieutenant. Until her retirement she worked as an RN at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Leavenworth. She was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church. She is survived by her three nieces. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2007, at the St. Ann Catholic Church, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Burial will be in the Kidder Cemetery Kidder, Mo. Services under the direction of Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.

Philip Broadbent
Philip Broadbent, 79, Lawson, Mo., passed away on Wednesday May 2, 2007, at the Liberty Hospital. Mr. Broadbent was born on April 6, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo. On January 25, 1963, in Gladstone, Mo., he was married to Maxalene (Hursh) Broadbent. She preceded him in death in 1990. He was a member of Jesus Christ Washington Restoration Branch. He had served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a CPA. Survivors include five children; son, Philip K. Broadbent and his wife, Marla, Lawson, Mo., son, Bradley A. Broadbent and his wife, Marsha D., Excelsior Springs, Mo., daughter, Janna E. Holder and her husband, Kelly, Lawson, Mo., Drew V. Broadbent, Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Elizabeth M. Perry and her husband, Mitchell, Lawson, Mo.; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Broadbent. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2007, at the Excelsior Springs Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Polley Funeral Home, Lawson, Mo. Burial will be in the Lawson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Restoration Camping Inc. c/o Tanya Bausback, P.O. Box 184, Independence, Mo. 64051.

Phyllis Jane Garrett
Phyllis Jane Garrett, 94, Polo, Mo., passed away on April 4, 2007, at the Lawson Manor & Rehab Center. Phyllis was born on March 4, 1913, in Nebraska City, Neb. She had been employed by the U.S. Government as a stenographer. Cremation with no planned services. Arrangements under the direction of Polley Funeral Home Lawson, Mo.

Ruth M. Baxter
Ruth M. Baxter, 81, of Lawson, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Liberty Hospital. Born May 28, 1926 in Excelsior Springs, she was the daughter of Clarence M. and Cerena C. (Crowse) Clevenger. On December 17, 1947 she was married to Larry W. Baxter who survives, and they shared nearly 60 years of marriage. Ruth was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, canning food and sewing. She also enjoyed playing bingo, bowling and garage sales. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Jewel Chapter #492 of Liberty. She was also a member of the Vibbard Christian Union Church for over 30 years and had the honor of being the oldest member. In addition to her husband, also surviving are three children, Larry S. Baxter and wife, Jeanett, Excelsior Springs, Mark Baxter and wife, Suzanne, Lawson, and Lorrie Kotalik and husband, Tom, Excelsior Springs; two brothers, Gene Clevenger, Excelsior Springs, and Glenn Clevenger and wife, Barbara, Lawson; one sister-in-law, Viola Clevenger; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Janice Gillihan in 1987, and one brother, James Clevenger. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 1, 2007, at 11 a.m., at the Vibbard Christian Union Church. Visitation will be Wednesday evening at the church from 4 to 7 p.m., with the family receiving friends at that time. An Eastern Star service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Burial will be in the North New Garden Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Services under the direction of the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.

Susan Lynn Curry-Cook
Susan Lynn Curry-Cook, 53, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at her home. Susan was born on April 1, 1954 in Excelsior Springs, Mo. She was a member of the Baptist Church in California, and also attended the Woods Memorial Christian Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #3917 Ladies Auxillary. Survivors include two sons, David Pate, Overland Park, Kans., and Matthew Griffee, Raytown, Mo.; one daughter, Danelle Pate, Kansas City, Mo.; her mother, Wanda Holloway, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; one brother, Gary Curry, Kansas City, Mo.; six sisters, Cynthia Cunningham, Independence, Mo., Mary Fausett, Excelsior Springs, Mo., Michelle Ham, Kansas City, Mo., Linda Tucker, Kansas City, Mo., Sandra Weig, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Carolyn Jackson, Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a husband, Randy Pate, a step-father, Claude Holloway, and a brother, Richard Holloway. Cremation. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Church of the Nazarene, Excelsior Springs, Mo., with Rev. Mark Callister officiating. Shirley Jane Teegarden
Shirley Jane Teegarden, 70, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at her home. Shirley was born on December 24, 1936, the daughter of Emmitt Joseph and Lois L. (Williams) Wilson in Orrick, Mo. She was a 1954 graduate of Orrick High School. She was married to Curtis Teegarden on May 7, 1936 in Orrick, Mo. He preceded her in death on April 17, 1996. Shirley had worked for Whitaker Cable, Avsco Plastics and had been a manager for Dollar General. She enjoyed playing Bingo, and watching Chiefs football. Survivors include five children, son, Paul Curtis Teegarden, Richmond, Mo., son, Chris Rodney Teegarden, Richmond, Mo., son, Jackie Lynn Teegarden and his wife, Teresa, Richmond, Mo., daughter, Tamara Rene Jeffers and her husband, Rick, Excelsior Springs, Mo., son, Johny Allen Teegarden and his wife, Karen, Richmond, Mo.; three sisters, Betty O'Brian, Shell Knob, Mo., Marie Simmons, Excelsior Springs, Mo., Annie Weir, Bell, Mo.; four brothers, Dean Wilson, Liberty, Mo., Ray Wilson, Liberty, Mo., Robert Sheets Wilson, Arabia, La., and Emmitt Wilson, Liberty, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Everett Wilson, Edgar Wilson, Elvin Wilson, Frances Wheeler and Billy Joe Wilson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2007, at the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Thomas F. Clark
Thomas F. Clark Jr., 85, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away on Monday, May 14, 2007, at the Lawson Manor & Rehab. Thomas was born on May 24, 1921, in Floris, Okla., the son of Levi and Helen (Pleoffi) Clark. He was married to Constance Cattles on August 11, 1962, in Miami, Okla. She preceded him in death on August 13, 1992. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Thomas was a truck driver for PIE. He retired from PIE and then drove a school bus and a parts truck for O'Reilly's. He was a Mason. Survivors include two half sisters, Marilyn Snider and her husband, Bennie, Webster City, Ia., and Janet Leals, Centerville, Ia.; two half brothers, Larry Clark, Corydon, Ia., and Bob Clark, Albia, Ia.; two cousins, John Merritt and his wife, Jeannie, and Jack Merritt and his wife, Berneata, and friend Tobie Brown, all of Lawson, Mo. Besides his parents, step-parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Volden. Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2007, at the Lawson Cemetery, Lawson, Mo. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m. on Friday at the Polley Funeral Home, Lawson, prior to the services.

Terry Lee Creason
Terry Lee Creason, 56, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2007, at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Terry was born on May 17, 1950, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., the son of Mert and Dorothy (Goode) Creason. He married Karen Salley on March 22, 1985. He worked as a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service. Terry was baptized many years ago in the Baptist church and felt very strongly about his religion. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and then later served in the U.S. Navy in the 1970's. He was a member of the Postal Workers Union. Survivors include his wife, Karen Creason, of the home; step children, John Timothy Mael, Ryan J. Mael and Stefani R. Mael; his mother, Dorothy Creason, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; three brothers, Roger Creason, Olathe, Kan., David Creason, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Steve Creason, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; one sister, Glenda Wilhite, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Mert, and twin brother ,Larry. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery Excelsior Springs, Mo.
