Charles Homer Combs
July 20, 1965 - November 19, 2020
Charles Homer Combs died on November 19, 2020, aged 55, at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City. He was born on July 20, 1965 to Helen and Homer Combs of Trenton, Ohio by way of Quicksand, KY. He graduated from Edgewood High School in Trenton, had a BA in English Literature from Oberlin College, and an MA and MEd from Columbia University in Applied Linguistics.
Charles came from a family of teachers, and worked in education most of his life. He taught English in Japan for more than a decade, ESL at the Professional Business College in NYC, and Second Language Acquisition courses at CUNY Hunter College.
Charles will be remembered for his astonishing photographic memory, as an avid reader, and a birder. He appreciated high and low culture, enjoying weekly opera, ballet and theater performances in New York City as much as dancing to ’80s music and reading celebrity gossip. Charles loved to travel and was never happier than when on an overseas adventure or taking a long road trip across the US. Charles was an out gay man before it was culturally accepted.
Charles is survived by his brother John Combs, his adopted sister Béatrice Turpin, adopted mother Gunilla Haac, and former partners Robert Fyke and Masaru Suzuki as well as a large group of friends on four continents. He was much beloved by many and will be missed!
Charles was an organ donor and left the gift of sight to a grateful recipient. A donation can be made to the National Audubon Society at https://www.audubon.org/ in the memory of Charles Combs.

ZONNEVELD, STEPHEN V.

Stephen Vincent Zonneveld, 48, formally of Tappan, NY, died in Vancouver, WA, March 17, 2010. He was born in New York City October 4, 1961, the beloved son of Andrew and Johanna Zonneveld. He lived in Tappan most of his formative years where he graduated from Tappan Zee H.S. and St. Thomas Aquinas College in 1984. Stephen was an ardent outdoorsman who developed an enduring love of the scenic beauty of the Pacific Northwest. He is survived by his son Michael E. Zonneveld, his father Andrew Zonneveld, his brothers Michael, John and Peter Zonneveld, his sisters Andrea Polihrom and Ellen Emmert along with seven nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wed., March 31 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Tappan, N.Y. Burial will follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, N.Y.

CALLANAN, DIANA LYNN (MOE)

Diana Lynn (Moe) Callanan of Stony Point, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 13, 2010. She was 47 years old. Diana was born on November 8, 1962 in South St. Paul, MN to Laurel and Yvonne (Leigh) Moe. She was raised in Argyle, MN where she attended and graduated from Argyle High School in 1981. After graduating from High School,Diana attended Vocational School in Grand Forks, MN from 1981 to 1984. She was confirmed and baptized at Alma Lutheran Church in rural Argyle, MN. During and after high school, Diana was active in the 4H Club where she served as a 4H leader for several years. She also worked with the Summer Migrant Program in Minnesota. Diana moved to New York in 1984 to work as an Au Pair and on February 2, 1985 she married Robert J. Callanan, Jr. at Grace Episcopal Church in Nyack, NY. She enjoyed bowling with the Sunday Vacation Bowling League since 1985. Diana began her banking career in 1986 with the Savings Bank of Rockland and remained with them when they became Wachovia Bank, working at various branches throughout Rockland County. She briefly worked for Palisades Federal Credit Union and was currently employed by the Rockland Employees Federal Credit Union. Diana has been an active member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Central Nyack, NY since 1986. As a child Diana grew up camping and continued to enjoy it with her family. She especially enjoyed camping at Yogi Bear's Jelly Stone Park at Birchwood Acres in Ellenville, NY. Diana is survived by her husband of 25 years, Robert J. Callanan, Jr. and her daughter, Jennifer Marianne Callanan and her two poodles, Misty and Stormy. Her parents Laurel and Yvonne Moe of Argyle, MN and Apache Junction, AZ; a brother Terry and his wife Patricia of Melbourne, FL; a sister Lorie Moe Nelson and her husband Gene of Middle River, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visiting will be held today (Monday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM at the St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 2 Old Ox Road, Nyack, NY 10960. CANNIZZO, JOSEPH

Joseph Cannizzo, 90, of Thornwood, NY, and formerly of Mt. Vernon, NY, died on March 14, 2010 at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow, NY. He was born on October 24, 1919 to the late Antonio and Giuseppina (nee Richieduta) Cannizzo in San Piero, Patti, Sicily. Joseph worked for the Hotel Carlyle in NYC as a carpenter. He is survived by his devoted wife Caroline (nee Biscari) Cannizzo of Thornwood, NY, and one sister, Giuseppina Tramontano of Italy. Also survived by his many cherished nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister in laws Antoinette Gugliuzzo of Thornwood, NY, Rose (Pat) Evangelista and Marie (John) Barbieri, all of Harrison, NY. Predeceased by one sister Maria Foti and three brothers Salvatore, Carmelo and Giovanni Cannizzo. Also predeceased by his brother-in-law Jimmy Gugliuzzo. CHAMBERLIN, WILLIAM C.

William C. Chamberlin of Yorktown Heights and formerly of Irvington died March 13, 2010 at the age of 71. Born January 6, 1939 in Syracuse, NY, he was the son of William C. and Louise Stephens Chamberlin. He was a graduate of Columbia University where he completed his doctorate. He served in the United States Air Force for 6 years and went on to have a long career as a Pilot with TWA and retired after 28 years as a Captain. Later, he was a Psychologist at the VA Hospital in Montrose. On September 15, 1973, he married Carol Falvey in Chicago, IL. William is survived by his loving wife Carol, his son James of Boston and his daughter Jaime Oberst and her husband Bart Norton of Andover, KS and he was the loving grandfather of Evyn Norton. He is also survived by his brother John of Fayetteville, NY. Visitation will be at COFFEY FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday from 5-9 PM where Funeral Services will be held at 7:30 PM. CUNNINGHAM, ELIZABETH

Elizabeth Cunningham, 98 died peacefully on March 12, 2010 at her home in Clermont, Florida. She was born September 2, 1911 in Yonkers, NY to Walter and Mary Malone. She lived a very long and beautiful life. She was the devoted wife of the late John P. Cunningham. Beloved mother of John and Mary Cunningham of Mt. Kisco, NY and Arlene and Raymond Vickrey of Clermont, Florida. Loving grandmother of Amy, Robert and the late John P. Cunningham III, Lynda Keegan, Raymond and Sean Vickrey. Adoring great-grandmother of John V., Luke, Michael, Lucy and Evan, she is also survived by her brothers John and Tom Malone and her sisters, Marion Malone and Marge Rickerson. As a life long Westchester resident she embraced life, and was always blessed by her family and friends, may she rest in peace. The family will receive friends at the Clark Funeral Home, Inc., 2104 Saw Mill River Road, Yorktown Hgts., NY, on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday in St. Patrick's Stone Church, Yorktown at 10 AM. Interment Amawalk Hill Cemetery. DICKEY, JAMES BRENDAN

James Brendan Dickey, a resident of Indian Harbour Beach, FL and Lake Ariel, PA, formerly of Bardonia, NY died in Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA on March 11, 2010. Born in Brooklyn on February 2, 1928 to Patrick and Anna Dickey. Jim was a member of Dockbuilders Local 1456 and was employed as a construction Superintendent for Raymond International for 40 years. He was a US veteran and a Knights of Columbus member. Beloved husband of Ellen (nee McCann) of 55 years. Devoted father of Diane Dickey-Rubino, Audrey Dickey-Baisley and her husband Michael and Stephen Dickey. Cherished grandfather of Victoria Rubino, Kevin, Andrew and Jake Dickey. Loving brother of Patrick Dickey (Marion), Joan Dickey, Kathleen Dickey-Mallozzi (Ralph) and the late Kevin Dickey. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jim loved his family, playing his musical instruments, golf, dancing and working in his garage. Jim always said he was a "Jack of all Trades and Master of None." He was a gifted man when it came to fixing or building anything. Visiting hours are Sunday & Monday 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM.
