MATHEWS, ALICE

Alice Mathews died peacefully at home in Nyack, NY on May 2 after a short illness. She was 90 years old. Daughter of Wallace Ogden Westfeldt and Alice Vairin, she was born and grew up in New Orleans, LA. She made her debut in 1939; was a maid in the Krewes of Momus, Poseidon and Rex; and attended Radcliffe College. Alice married Troup Howard Mathews in 1942. They moved to New York City after the war. She and her family were among the early residents of Shanks Village in Rockland County, where they lived from 1949 to 1956. For over 20 years Alice lived in Blauvelt and worked at the Rockland County Mental Health Center first in Monsey and later in Pomona. When Alice retired in 1976 and moved to Vermont, she maintained her strong connections to Rockland County. She renewed and extended her friendships when she returned to live in Nyack in 1996. Alice volunteered at the Fellowship of Reconciliation in Upper Nyack until her eyesight became too poor due to macular degeneration. She continued to maintain an active life and became a second degree Reiki practitioner. Alice is survived by her two brothers, Patrick McCloskey Westfeldt of Denver, CO, and Wallace Ogden Westfeldt of Plattsburg, NY; her four daughters, Vairin Henshaw of Greenwood Lake, NY, Sarah Escowitz and Christine Batten of Reston, VA, and Mary Mathews of Nyack; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday May 6, 2008 at 12 noon at the Grace Episcopal Church, 130 First Ave., Nyack, NY. Alice asked that anyone wishing to make donations in her name contribute to the Fellowship of Reconciliation, 523 North Broadway, Upper Nyack, NY. PURELLO, ANTHONY

Anthony Purello passed away on May 3, 2008. He was born in Brooklyn on May 27, 1918 to Henry and Carmela. Anthony proudly served his country in WWII in the Army. He married the love of his life Louise on October 5, 1947. He was employed by Bosch Armor for 20 years working on projects for NASA for the Apollo 13 mission, and other defense satellites. Anthony finished his career with Philips of North America before retiring in 1980. He has been a resident of Rockland County for many years, prior Bronx. Anthony enjoyed bowling, playing pinochle, and taking his family to the Catskills. Anthony is survived by his children Marie and her husband Les Thomason of Youngtown, AZ, Loretta and her husband Michael Fay of Tomkins Cove, NY, and Henry of Garnerville, NY. He will be missed dearly by his four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Higgins FH, Stony Point. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Stony Point. Burial to follow at Fred Loescher Veterans Cemetery, Monsey, NY. MICHAEL J. RANDALL, JOHN LITTLE

John Little Randall, of Yonkers, NY died unexpectedly on April 29, 2008 at the age of 60. Beloved husband of Evelyn Nana-Fosu Randall. Devoted father of Jennifer A. Fordjuor, William K. Randall and Kachina A. Randall. Adoring grandfather of Yaminah A. Randall, Elijah K. Randall, Sophia A. Randall and Malik K. Randall. He was a retired Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Hostos Community College. He was devoted to peace and non-violence shown through founding, with his wife, the John William Montessori School in Tanaso, Kumasi, Ghana. He will also be dearly missed by The Religious Society of Friends (Quaker), member Scarsdale Friends Meeting House. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday May 6, 2008 at 6:00pm at the Scarsdale Friends Meeting House. RINALDI, MICHAEL F.

Michael F. Rinaldi of Yonkers passed away on May 3, 2008. Michael was born January 30, 1939 in Mt. Vernon to Neal and Marie Rinaldi. He married Carol Perone on October 28, 1962. Michael was active with Little League Baseball in Yonkers for many years. Before he retired in 2002 Michael was an assistant Dean at Westchester Community College, affiliate of SUNY, Education Opportunity Center for over 25 years. Michael is survived by his wife Carol, two sons Neal and his wife Janet, Michael and his wife Tina, four grandchildren Danny, Victoria, Michael and Lauren, mother in-law Frances Perone, sister in-law Francine Aivaz and one niece and two nephews. Friends may visit the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8pm and Tuesday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9pm. Mass of Christian Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. STEVENS, MARY "DOLLY"

Mary "Dolly" Stevens a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at home on May 2, 2008 with her family by her side. She was born Maria Carmela DeRuzza on April 24, 2004 to Guiseppi DeRuzza and Tomasina Monti in Mamaroneck, NY. Mary married Vernon H. Stevens on May 26, 1946 who predeceased her on June 6, 1973. Mary was an employee for over 17 years at Amscan, Inc. She enjoyed mostly her family, crocheting and playing cards. Mary is survived by her brother John DeRuzza and his wife Kay, her sister Rose Rinaldi, her daughter Sharon Lipsky and her son Vernon H. Stevens, Jr. and his fiancee Bella Feliz. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Maria Figueroa and her husband Carlos, Rosanne Soares and her husband Tristan, Stephanie Bookbinder and her husband Glenn and Russell A. Minnerly III and his fiance Lorena Mercado and Vernon H. Stevens III and Mardelan Feliz. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren: Joseph Minnerly, Mariah Minnerly, Carlos Figueroa, Anna Cristina Figueroa, Justina Soares, Daniella Soares, Russell A. Minnerly IV and Jeremy Mercado. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Research Institute -www.cancerresearch.or g Friends may visit the O'Neill-Lanza FH, 422 E. TUCKER, JULIA

Julia M. Tucker of South Nyack, NY passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. She was 85 years old. Julia was born on July 7, 1922 in Corona, Alabama to Jonas and Lucille Dawson. She is predeceased by one son Jessie L. Tucker, four brothers George, James, Richard and Jake. Julia leaves to mourn her husband Charlie W. Tucker, a son Charlie W. Tucker, Jr., two daughters Willie and Gladys, five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM at the Pilgrim Baptist Church, 80 North Franklin St., Nyack, NY. A Homegoing Service will be held on Wednesday May 7, 2008 at 11 AM at Pilgrim Baptist Church with interment to follow at the Rockland County Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY. MCKEON, JOHN B.

John B. McKeon, a Spring Valley resident, formerly of Pearl River passed away peacefully on March 21, 2008. John was born in the Bronx on March 4, 1958 to Claire and the late Bernard McKeon. Beloved brother to Brian and his wife Randy, Keith and his wife Ofelia, and sister Maureen and husband Lenny Marsigliano. He will be remembered as a special Uncle to his five Nephews, two Nieces, two Great Nephews and one Great-Niece. His wisdom, knowledge and generosity will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
