FELAGO, ERNEST E.
Ernest E. Felago, a former government and industry official died September 5, 2008 at O'Connor Hospital in San Jose, CA . He was 92 years old. He was born in Fall River, MA, April 2, 1916 and moved with his family to Brooklyn, NY in 1927. He attended schools in New York City and was a graduate of New York Technical Institute. On October 20, 1940, he was married to Ronzine (Ronni) A. Colasuonno. A resident of Yonkers from 1950-2002, he then moved first to San Jose, CA, then to Mountain View, CA in 2004. His career in government service began in 1937 when he joined the U.S. Patent Office in Washington, DC . He remained in government service until 1955 when he resigned the position of Executive Secretary-Security Advisor to the Department of Defense-New York Industrial Personnel Security Hearing Board, to join The Singer Company. Following his retirement from Singer on January 1, 1985, until his death, he was Special Investigator for the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Customs Service. He held various other top-ranking security posts in government service, which included: Chief, Industrial Security Division-G2, HQ. First Army; and Director of Security, New York Region, Economic Stabilization Agency. At his post with ESA, he was awarded the highest civilian meritorious citation for superior accomplishment. Mr. Felago was Corporate Director of Security and Assistant Vice President of the Singer Company, a multinational firm that employed 133, 000 employees. His corporate office and each of Singer's divisions and subsidiaries involved in military classified programs received the coveted government Cogswell Award of outstanding security programs. In 1969, the company received the Award of Merit for excellence of security programs presented by the International Security Conference. He was elected a National Director of the 35, 000 member American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) for approximately nine years, served as Regional Vice President and National First Vice President, and was also Assistant to the President on International Affairs. In 1967, Mr. Felago was New York State Chairman, Corrective Education and Training Committee of the National Council on Crime and Delinquency. He authored many articles and conducted a number of government/industry seminars on industrial security. He served as a lecturer on security matters at New York University, Division of General Education; the American Management Association; and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons; Rev. John F., a Maryknoll Missioner; Ernest M., Los Altos Hills, CA; and Richard T., and Lauderdale By The Sea, Fl. Survivors also include seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Felago was an active parishioner, a Trustee, Lector, and member of the Parish Council of St. Denis Church in Yonkers, and a Lector at Queen of Apostles Church in San Jose . GASTON, HORTENSIA COSTAS
Gaston, Hortensia Costas passed away on September 7, 2008 at St. John's Riverside Hospital in Yonkers. A long time resident of Yonkers, NY, she moved to Ardsley NY two years ago. She was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on September 7, 1915. There she met and married her husband Carlos Esteban Gaston who predeceased her on May 20, 2002. Hortensia and Carlos moved to New York City in 1938. She had five children of whom Luis predeceased her in 1985. She is survived by four children Ethel (Louis) Rosally of Ardsley, NY, Charles (Kathy) of Sandy, Utah, Priscilla (David) Fowler of Bartow, Georgia, and Sabina Gaston of New Rochelle, NY and June Gaston, widow of Luis. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren Rosaline (Michael) Lombardo of Wappingers Falls, NY, Derek (Uta) Rosally of El Cerrito, CA, Stephanie (Jody) Kaplan of Ardsley, NY, Adrian (Andrea) of San Rafael, Ca, Eva Petrics of Atlanta Ga, Jeffrey Gaston of Hong Kong, China, Andrew Gaston of Sandy, Ut, Alan Gordon of New Rochelle, NY, Keith Gordon of New Rochelle, NY, Janaera (Kamal) Brown, Luis "CJ" (Ruthie) Gaston of New York, NY, and ten great grandchildren Arianna and Michael Lombardo, Rei, Dakoda and Cheyan Rosally, Jeffrey and Joseph Rosally, Koa Rosally, Bryce, Thomas, David and Elizabeth Kaplan, and a host of family and friends. Hortensia was happiest when surrounded by family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.A devoted Catholic, Hortensia attended St. Mary's Church after the closing of her beloved Holy Rosary Church. Hortensia was an active member of the Nepperhan Comm. Center Senior Citizens program in Yonkers. The family will receive friends on Thursday September 11th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home in Yonkers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Hortensia on Friday, September 12th at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church in Yonkers with Interment to follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx. John A.Giambalvo, 54, of Yonkers, NY. Beloved husband of Raquel, Cherished father of Paul A. and Gina M. Giambalvo, Loving son of Marie and the late Philip. Also survived by his sisters Diane Richards, Nancy Dziedzic and brother Philip Giambalvo. John was the founder of Envisage Optical, formerly John Giambalvo Opticians of Westchester. A member of the Yonkers Lions club since 1990, he was elected president in the years 1996-1997, and he is a present member of the board of directors. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy in Yonkers. Other accomplishments include being elected a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Yonkers and New Rochelle. Antoinette Grieco (Belmont) died Saturday September 6, 2008 in The Villages Florida. She was born February 17, 1914 in White Plains, NY to John and Christina (Daubler) Belmont. Mrs. Grieco is predeceased by her husband, Cosmo Grieco. They were married on October 14, 1934. She is survived by her children, Maryann DiFede (John) of Armonk, NY, Janet Ortiz of The Villages, FL, and James (Diane) Grieco of Leesburg, FL, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. John Honan, 87, died September 7, 2008. He was a longtime resident of Dobbs Ferry. Before retirement, John worked as a bookkeeper for Conrail. He was an avid Notre Dame fan, a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church and a Past President of its' Holy Name Society. John was the mildest man that spent his life doing for others. He is survived by his sisters Marie Rutowski and Eileen Bohl and a brother Joseph and his nieces and nephews, Elizabeth MacDonald, Jane Denbaum, William, Edward and John Bohl, Colleen Honan, Mary Ellen Milostan, Lisa Kelsey and Paul Rutkowski. Ruth C. Johannessen, a long time resident of Bedford Hills died peacefully in her sleep after a long illness in Orlando Florida on September 3, 2008. She was born in Hibbing, Minnesota on September 21, 1927. She is survived by four sons, William Johannessen of Pittsburgh, PA, Robert Johannessen of Croton on Hudson, NY, Thomas Johannessen of Carmel, NY and Donald Johannessen of Orlando, FL. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Knut after fifty six years of marriage and her eldest son James Johannessen, who resided in Waukegan, IL. She is survived by ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Ruth enjoyed knitting, crocheting, vacations, feeding the ducks and taking pictures of her grandchildren. Services will be private.
