O'KEEFFE, MAURA (MARY)

The Irish-born mother of five children (Mary, Tony, Margaret, Evelyn, and Beverly) and grandmother to Ian and Justin, Maura died of complications following an injury. She was the wife of the late Eamon O'Keeffe (died 1987), the daughter of Mary and Edward Hiney, and the sister of five siblings (Ted, Jimmer, Ann, Kay, Margaret, all deceased). Maura came to America with her two oldest children in 1953 to join her husband after his army service, living for many years in the Bronx, and later in White Plains, NY. She was a woman of remarkable liveliness, good humor, and Irish charm, and will be missed deeply by her loving family and many friends. Visiting Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral Mass Wednesday 10am at Our Lady of Sorrows. Interment St. Raymond's Cemetery Bronx, NY. Donations can be made to the American Lung Association. PABON, RAFAELA

Rafaela Pabon (nee Zapata), 98, a longtime resident of Tappan, on Saturday, September 6, 2008. Beloved wife of the late Ramon. Devoted mother of Ramon and Gigi of Palisades, Herman and Sandy of Haverstraw, and Carmen and Alfredo Ramirez of Blauvelt. Loving grandmother of Ramon Jr., Isabel, Arleen, Mary, and Gina. Dear great-grandmother of Trinity, Cadia, and Eva. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Pabon was pre-deceased by eight brothers and sisters. A funeral mass is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Tappan with entombment to follow in Garden of Memories, Washington Township, NJ. Visiting hours are Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Anthony R. Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Avenue, Northvale (845-359-2323). PALLONE, JOSEPH
1908-2008

Joseph A. Pallone of Yorktown Heights, NY, passed away peacefully in his bed on Friday, September 7, 2008 at 100 years of age. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, and their three grandchildren: Dawn (Neal), Robert (Lisa) and Deneen (Carmine), whom they raised from school age and up, after loosing their daughter and only child, Joanne in 1970. He is also survived by his five great-grandchildren Jenna, Cara, Robert, Carson and Brielle. He is predeceased by his seven siblings. Known lovingly and simply as "Grandpa" by almost everyone fortunate enough to know him. Joe was born in NYC. In his youth, he became something of a start pitcher in his area of the Bronx, going on to play semi-pro ball until arm injuries forced him to give it up. Baseball remained a joy to him throughout his life. He went on to work for the American Bank Note Co. for over 50 years finally retiring to better raise his three grandchildren. Joe was a man who felt that being a man meant certain responsibilities and actions, he spent his life fulfilling those ideals. He bought a three family house and took care of his mother-in-law, Amelia Emanuele for her final 36 years until her passing at age 98. He also took in daughter, son-in-law and the three grandchildren until his daughters passing in 1970 and continued to raise the kids and dote over his wife. His wife, Anne, to this day says that he never once did anything to ever hurt her feelings. This after 72 years of marriage and almost 80 years together. A religious man who always had his rosary on him, his prayers for those he loved were answered again and again. Joseph A. Pallone, a good man. He will be greatly missed. The calling hours on Sunday, September 7, 2008 from 4 PM - 7 PM. A Prayer Service for the family to be held at 11 AM on Monday, September 8, 2008 followed by the died September 7, 2008. He was 82 Born in Yonkers, NY the son of Otto and Irene (Taylor) Schellhas, he was a graduate of Gorton High School. He married the love of his life, Doris Wood on April 19, 1958 in Tarrytown, NY. Mr. Schellhas was a commercial refrigeration salesman, working for various companies. He was an accomplished pianist, and avid bowler and a devoted Yankee fan, but the center of his life was always his wife and family. Mr. Schellhas is survived by his wife Doris of Valhalla, and his children, Linda Mahony of Carmel, NY, William H. Schellhas of Shrub Oak, NY and Debra Sanchez of White Plains, NY. Also survived by his grandsons; William Mahony, Kevin Mahony, Robert Schellhas and Alexander Sanches and his step-granddaughter Sheena Sanchez. His brother Rymond J. Schellhas predeceased him. Calling hours Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Beecher Funeral Home, Inc., Pleasantville, NY. Funeral service Wednesday 11:30 AM, Pleasantville Presbyterian Church, Pleasantville, NY. Interment Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the American Cancer Society or Pleasantville Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.

WALSHIN, IRIS (NEE BELLER)

Iris Walshin, age 72, of Yonkers, NY, died peacefully in her home following a long illness on September 6, 2008. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Martin Walshin, daughters Donna Walshin and Helen Walshin, her brother Berthold Beller, and her parents, Harry and Henrietta Beller. Born in Brooklyn, she was raised in the Bronx. In 1960, she was co-founder of the heating control business that bears her husband's name, Martin Walshin, Inc., an international master distributor of automatic temperature controls. The company is located on Saw Mill River Road, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. She was renowned in the Yonkers community for her philanthropic work with, and donations to, an impressive number of charities. Iris, along with her husband, Marty supported organizations that had a special significance to them. St. John's Riverside Hospital, which afforded exceptional care to Iris, is just one of the beneficiaries of their generosity; several scholarships are donated to the hospital's Cochran School of Nursing annually, in addition to a number of other hospital sponsored events and programs. They also sponsor local firefighters' 5 Mile Run to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Iris maintained a strong sense of giving back to her community, and her tenet is evidenced by her membership in a host of organizations. Perhaps her greatest legacy is the Yonkers Police Athletic League, for which she served as Vice-President on its Board of Directors. They recently hung a sign bearing "Iris Walshin's Kitchen" over the entrance to the kitchen that she designed and cooked in for many of the events. Her support and contributions to the organization have provided many inner city youngsters opportunities for positive recreational activities. Together they "adopted" the old city Armory, refurbishing it into a crown jewel facility for the city and its youth. Iris served as a Trustee of St. John's Riverside Hospital, Trustee of the Hudson Valley National Foundation and Board Member of the Hudson Valley Business Development and the Jewish Council of Yonkers. She was an active member of the Yonkers Chamber of Commerce. The North Yonkers Preservation and Development Corporation -The Donna Walshin Center, which provides day-to-day services for many members of the local community, was founded and named in memory of their daughter. Iris Walshin has dedicated her efforts toward improving the lives of countless individuals, and has made the City of Yonkers a better place for all. Arrangements by Weinstein Memorial Chapel, Yonkers. Visitation from 7-9 pm on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 with the funeral service on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 12 noon at the funeral home. The family will be sitting Shiva at the Walshin home on Thursday and Friday from 12:00pm until 7:00pm. LEVY, BEATRICE

Beatrice Levy, 95, passed away September 7, 2008. Predeceased by her devoted husband, Siegfried, beloved mother of Joan Parmet and her husband Robert, grandmother of Andrew and great-grandmother of Sarah. Beatrice was the owner of Claire Millinery in Mt. Vernon, NY for 70 years. She loved her family above all. Generous and kind, and an ardent traveler, she will be missed by all who loved her. LOCKYER, SUSAN

Susan Lockyer of Bedford Village died on Saturday September 6th at the age of 39. Susan was a loving and caring daughter, sister, and friend. She constantly gave so much of herself to charitable organizations and causes, specifically to St. Jude. Her consideration and compassion to others was exemplified through her everyday life. She will be laid to rest at Cape Cod where she spent many happy times with her family. She will be greatly missed, but loved forever.
