FLAGG, BARBARA MARIE WIRSING

Barbara Marie Wirsing Flagg, October 6, 1930 - September 2, 2008, passed away comfortably at home with the dignity and grace that were her hallmark, surrounded by immediate family, after a three year battle of bladder cancer and additional complications. Born and raised in Yonkers, Barbara attended high school at the Blessed Sacrament Academy and Regis College. She started a career in New York as a Buyer at Lord and Taylor until marrying her husband, Noel. Her greatest pride and achievement was raising her four boys, during which time she was actively involved with assorted charitable organizations, one of which was co-founding a Christmastime "Adopt a Family" program. Survived by her husband Noel M. Flagg; their four boys Noel, Jr., Hans, Kevin, and Stuart; her two daughters-in-law Elise and Eileen; and their six grandchildren. The family will be receiving friends at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home, Scarsdale, New York, (914) 725-1137, Thursday, September 4, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, September 5, 11 AM, Our Lady of Fatima Church, Scarsdale, New York. GRANESE, VIRGINIA

Virginia Granese of Haverstraw, died on September 2, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was 87. Born on August 20, 1921 in Haverstraw to the late Anthony and Carmella Rota Granese. Virginia was a graduate of Haverstraw High School Class of 1940. After graduating she went on to work for Lederle Labs in Pearl River as a Clerical Assistant for 47 years retiring in 1987. Virginia enjoyed reading and trips to Atlantic City. Survivors include her loving sisters Lillian Larkin and Ann Lampariello of Haverstraw her sister-in-law Joan Granese of Garnerville and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Nicholas, Salvatore and Patrick Granese, her sisters Mary Zanato, Columbia Sutera and Florence Sutton, her brothers-in-law William Larkin, Charles Sutera, Carlo Zanato and William Lamapriello, and her sister-in-law Jean Granese, Dorothy Granese. Friends may call on Friday September 5, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at T.J McGowan Sons HAVERSTRAW. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday September 6, 2008 at 11am at St. Peters Church, Interment to follow in Mt. Repose Cemetery Haverstraw. T.J. CARBONE, SOPHIA

Sophia Helen Carbone, a long-time resident of White Plains, New York, and recent resident of Naples, FL, passed away on Sunday, August 31, aged 90, following complications from a fall. Born on July 4, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the only daughter of the late Carl and Rose Salvato. Employed for several years as a dress designer at Heller Fashions in Brooklyn, NY, Sophia married Roland F. Carbone, a former professional baseball player, on November 16, 1940. She then gave up her career in fashion while she and her husband owned and operated Best Photo in Brooklyn for more than 15 years. They moved to Valhalla, NY in 1956 and later to White Plains, NY where she became a women's fashion sales manager with B. Altman & Co until retiring in 1986. She was a devoted wife, beloved mother and talented fashion, interior designer and homemaker. Her favorite stories were how she and her husband had three marriage ceremonies and how she had never been out of Brooklyn, NY until joining her husband who was stationed with the Army Signal Corps in San Antonio, TX during WWII. Sophia was predeceased by her husband on December 23, 1978 and by her brother Lawrence Salvato. She is survived by her loving daughter, Claudia Hammon; son, Glenn Carbone; grandson, Rick; great grandsons Kyle and Anthony; niece Rose-Ellen Fogelman and nephew, Carl Salvato. A mass will be held Thursday (Today) at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 2 Broadway # 1, Valhalla, NY 10595 at 10am, where she was a parishioner for many years. Flowers can be sent to the church or, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Avow Hospice, 1095, Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.

HARVEY, CHRISTOPHER J.

Christopher J. Harvey of Montebello, NY passed away September 1, 2008 at the age of 50. He was born November 14, 1957 in NYC to Claude Harvey and Rose Otto. Christopher was a 1975 graduate of Suffern High School and a Bond Trader on Wall Street. He is the beloved son of Rose Otto, adored father of Noelle, and Gabrielle, and his children's mother Therese Harvey, brother to Stephen Harvey, and Eric Otto, and his sister Karen Harvey, and many cousins in Canada. CUTLER, LOUISE M.

Louise M. Cutler, of White Plains, NY, passed away on September 2, after a brief illness. She was born October 1, 1921 in Troy, NY, the daughter of the late S. Oley and Gretta Leathem Cutler. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy and received a B.S. in Chemistry from Good Counsel College in White Plains (later The College of White Plains), an M.S. from Fordham University and a PH.D from Columbia University. Dr. Cutler did post doctoral research at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York University and Columbia University. She was Professor of Chemistry at Good Counsel College and later at Pace University and held several administrative positions, serving as Dean of Studies at the White Plains campus for several years prior to her retirement in 1994. Dr. Cutler was a member of the American Chemical Society and Sigma Xi, Scientific Honor Society. Dr. Cutler was the coordinator of the Pace University Hispanic Outreach Program at the White Plains High School and Middle School for five years. Dr. Cutler was a former member of The Sisters of The Divine Compassion in White Plains, and over the years held several administrative positions including six years as President before her withdrawal in 1976. She was a parishioner at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale and for many years an active member of the Legion of Mary. Dr. Cutler was predeceased by her two brothers William E. Cutler of Rochester, NY and Rev. S. Oley Cutler S.J. of Fordham Law School. She is survived by her very dear friend of 50 years, Marie (Connie) Casciano of White Plains. Also surviving are three nieces and two nephews - Virginia Hallock (Timothy) of Rochester, NY, Constance Fineout (Rick) of FL., William Cutler (Rachel) of CA. James Cutler (Dianne) of IL. and Carol Cutler of New York City. Also surviving are a cousin Julie Keating of MA. and her daughters Tara and Kelly. Calling hours 2-4PM and 7-9PM on Friday. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 10:00AM at the Chapel of the Divine Compassion at Good Counsel at 52 North Broadway, White Plains, NY. Interment will be in Troy, NY. DUFFY, RAYMOND

Raymond J. Duffy, of Patterson, NY, died Wednesday September 3, 2008 in Mt. Pleasant, NY, at the age of 70. Mr. Duffy was born Nov. 26, 1937 in Manhattan, NY son of the late James and Evelyn (McNally) Duffy. He graduated from George Washington High School in Manhattan and served in the Air Force from September 1955 to September 1956. On November 4, 1977 he married Catherine Evans in Manhattan, NY. Together they moved to Patterson, NY in 1982. Mr. Duffy worked for 45 years as a Pay Master for Allied Maintenance Corp. in Manhattan before retiring in 1999. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Patterson, Fr. Breen Council of the Knights of Columbus a volunteer for over ten years for the CYO in Bronx, NY and a surrogate father to many. Besides his wife Catherine of Patterson he is survived by a son Raymond Duffy of Lake Carmel, NY, three daughters, Susan Daher of Stormville, NY, Donna Cooney of Stroudsburg, PA, Tara Duffy of Patterson, NY, and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Darren in 1995. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sat. Sept. 6, 2008 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Patterson NY. JAMES, CHRISTINE GILLESPIE

Christine Gillespie James, of White Plains, NY, died September 2, 2008 at her home. She was born January 3, 1925 Christine McKim Gillespie and James Packard Gillespie. She graduated from White Plains High School, attended Mt. Holyoke college and graduated from Barnard college in 1949. She received her Master's degree from Columbia University. She was known as Jean to all her family and friends. She married the Reverend Dr. William S. James in 1954 who was then the minister of Eastchester Presbyterian Church. She was the beloved mother to David C. James, Robert Gillespie James, Mary James Little and mother-in-law to Charlie Little. She was a loving grandmother to Jamie, Molly and Annie Little. She was lovingly cared for by Viola Larot. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 1 PM at the Rye Presbyterian Church Chapel, 882 Boston Post Road, Rye, New York 10580.
