MURPHY, GWENDOLYN

Gwendolyn Murphy, of Yorktown Heights, died on Monday, August 25, 2008 at Field Home -Holy Comforter. She was 88 years old. Gwen taught Home Economics for 35 years, retiring from Yorktown High School in 1979. She was raised in Bedford Hills, NY, by her mother, Antha Jane Squires and her father, Ward Squires. As a teenager, she became the first female gasoline station attendant in Westchester County. She was the valedictorian of her Bedford Hills High School class, received her Bachelor's degree from Plattsburgh State and her Master's degree from New York University. Gwen traveled extensively in the United States and in Europe, but her favorite destination was her cottage in West Dennis, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She is survived by her son, David, her daughter-in-law, Nancy, and her granddaughter, Katharine. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown at 2:00PM on Saturday, September 6, 2008. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown, 2880 Crompond Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.

NICKERSON, LAWRENCE J.

Lawrence J. Nickerson born June 5, 1940 departed this Earth September 3, 2008. He lived a life of peace and understanding, bound by a difficult code of principles and mixed wisdom obtained from the people who made up his life through the years. His wish was to be remembered with affection, kindness and love. Mr. Nickerson was the son of the late Reynould C. and Beatrice Marano Nickerson. Raised in the Bronx, Mr Nickerson spent his adult life in Westchester County, NY. He was a consultant to the Hospitality Industry for the last 18 years following a career that included Doral Hotels and Lowes Hotel Corp. Mr. Nickerson was highly regarded in the Industry for his knowledge and support and was a mentor to many. Mr. Nickerson is survived by his Life Partner, John T. Perez. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Lucy E. Harris and Doris Nugent, brothers Reynould C. Nickerson, Jr., Joseph A. Nickerson, Charles T. Nickerson. One brother Theodore A. Nickerson survives. Mr. Nickerson has numerous nieces and nephews as well as grand and great-grands. Lawrence also has a wide spectrum of loving friends who will be strengthened by his love and memory. Visitation will be at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home, Friday, September 5 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 at the funeral home with internment at Kensico Cemetery to immediately follow. Mr. Nickerson requested that in lieu of flowers donations in his honor to AIDS research-AMFAR, GMHC, Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Diabetes Research, Arthritis Research or a charity of choice. KEANE, BRYAN

After a lifetime of love, laughter and friendship, sadly, Bryan P. Keane passed away on September 3, 2008. Bryan was born in New Rochelle, NY, on May 31, 1929 to William and Catherine Keane. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Catherine. Bryan and Cathy were married on June 3, 1951 at Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle. A devoted father, Bryan leaves his daughter, Susan Ratz of Spring Lake, NJ; his daughter Patty and her husband Rich Lau of New Milford, CT; his daughter Nancy and her husband Ken Levy of Rye Brook, NY; his son Bryan and his wife Sharon of Oak Island, NC; and his daughter Ellen and her husband Kieran Stack of Poughkeepsie, NY. What put the twinkle in Bryan's blue eyes and the kick in his step are his eleven grandchildren, Patrick, Michael and Kaitlin Ratz; Megan, Tom and Jimmy Lau; Bryan and Jennifer Levy; and Kieran, Conor and Emma Stack. He also leaves his siblings, his brother Michael and his wife Susan, his sister Margaret, his brother John and his wife Karen and his brother Matt and his wife Joan as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son-in-law Michael Ratz and his two nephews, Brendan and Kevin Keane. His joy of living will survive him in his many friends - especially Dean Reben and Mario Scarano. Bryan's commitment to his family was the catalyst for his 35 years with the New York Telephone Company. He was equally invested in his community. As an active member of the New Rochelle Youth Bureau, he served as a Commissioner, a Chairperson and a volunteer for 25 years. He also served as a volunteer for many other organizations including: Knights of Columbus (since 1955), New Rochelle Little League (as a coach and field commissioner), New Rochelle Parks and Recreation Women's and Girl's softball coaches, Mayor's Task Force on Drug Abuse, District Leader-Republican Party, New Rochelle Board of Appeals on Zoning, Member of the New Rochelle Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee, and numerous political campaigns. He lived as he liked. Bryan was often seen at ball fields and gymnasiums throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The list of venues expanded once his grandchildren started going off to college! In lieu of flowers, Bryan's family requests that donations be made to the Bryan P. Keane Community Service Award and Scholarship. Donations can be sent to Blessed Sacrament/St. Gabriel High School, 15 Shea Place, New Rochelle, NY 10805. Wherever he went, Bryan was able to make and keep life-long friends, which was particularly evident throughout his illness. The family would like to thank all the amazing people who were immediately, consistently and steadfastly by he and Cathy's side. They deeply appreciate all the love and support that they have received. In Bryan's honor, live life to the fullest, enjoy every single day and never miss a game! Relatives and friends may pay their respects at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc., 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle, on Friday 4-8 PM. A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday 9:30am at Holy Family Church. Interment will follow at Beechwoods Cemetery.

KOSAKOWSKI, BERNARD JAMES

Bernard James Kosakowski, 79, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Bedford, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kosakowski; children, Bernard J. Kosakowski, Jr. and wife, Claudia, of Mamaroneck, NY, Cheryl Ann Kosakowski, Thomas Kosakowski and Kevin Kosakowski of Richmond, Va.; grandchild, Monica Maria Kosakowski; sisters, Victoria Kosakowski and Emilie Kosakowski of Bedford and Rosemarie August and husband Richard, of New City, NY; brother, Frank Kosakowski and wife Jean, of Monroe, CT; and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews. Served in the U.S. Army. Graduated from the University of Vermont. Director, Minority Business Development, Philip Morris, USA; retired 1993. Bernie and his family are extremely proud of his professional and community service including: President, Richmond Chapter, American Management Society; Chairman, Richmond Public Schools Education Advisory Council and Vocational and Adult Education Advisory Council; Chairman, Virginia Department of Education Business Education Advisory Council; Chairman, Virginia Regional Minority Supplier Development Council; Committee Chairman, National Minority Supplier Development Council; Co-chairman, Virginia Business Opportunity Fair; President, Huguenot Little League; Cub Scout Master; Chairman, St. Benedict Parish Council. Awards for distinguished service: Richmond Public Schools Council for Vocational and Adult Education; Virginia Business Education Association and Virginia Junior Academy of Science. Business Person of the Year, FBLA and Phi Beta Lambda. Visitation for family and friends, Friday, September 5, Oelker and Cox, 262 E. Main Street, Mt. Kisco, 6 to 8 p.m., with short prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral mass Saturday, September 6, 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bedford, N.Y. and interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwich, CT. NUCCILLI, VINCENT "JIMMY"

Vincent "Jimmy" Nuccilli, a lifetime resident of Yonkers, died peacefully at home on September 3, 2008 at the age of 60. Jimmy attended Yonkers schools and graduated from Yonkers High School in 1965. Beloved son of the late Anthony J. and Anna (Hoffer) Nuccilli. Dear brother of Patricia (Richard) DiMarzo and the late Anthony Nucilli and Joan Tacij. Fond brother-in-law of Michael Tacij and uncle of Cindy Fornabaio and Georgette Melella and Albert and Michael Tacij. Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave., on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service on Friday at 10 AM. Interment, St. Joseph Cemetery.
