McMAHON, JOHN P.

John P. McMahon, 74, of Ocean Pines, Maryland, formerly of Crestwood, New York, died in his home on September 2, 2008. He is survived by Ursula (nee Kehoe), his wife of 48 years. He was the father of Brenda, Maura Schmid (husband George), John (wife Theresa) and the loving grandfather of Michael, Ann, Kathryn, George, Catherine, Caroline, Meagan and Claire. John graduated from Iona College and was employed by NY Telephone Co. for 35 years. Visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday at McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville, NY. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 10 AM at Annunciation Church, Crestwood NY. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 245 Main Street, Ste 250, White Plains, NY 10601.

MONTGOMERY, EILEEN CURTIN

Eileen Curtin Montgomery, 78, of Cold Spring, NY, died at her Cold Spring home on Tuesday, September 2, 2008. Eileen was born the youngest of five children to Charles and Eleanor (Sullivan) Curtin on August 13, 1930 in Newburgh, NY. Her family originally resided in the Belle Harbor section of Queens, N.Y. and spent summers at Popolopen Lake, now part of West Point. During her early years at Rockaway Beach and Popolopen Lake Eileen developed a keen appreciation for family, nature and water sports, which she carried for her entire life. Her family lost their summer bungalow on Popolopen Lake in 1939 due to the expansion of West Point in preparation for World War II. Eileen attended St. Saviour High School in Brooklyn, NY and Notre Dame College of Staten Island. During her school years Eileen developed a life-long passion for teaching and a deep devotion to her Catholic faith. After college graduation Eileen began a teaching career in New York City schools in 1953. In 1956 Eileen accepted a teaching assignment at a Department of Defense Dependents' Overseas School in Okinawa, Japan. Enroute to Okinawa on a troop ship she met Ralph Montgomery from Downey, California who was traveling to a teaching assignment at the same school. Ralph and Eileen married on February 21, 1957 in Okinawa and lived in a house overlooking the China Sea with their first two children. She returned to United States in 1959 settling in Cold Spring, NY where she and Ralph raised nine children. Eileen continued her teaching career at Haldane and then eventually returned full time to New York City schools until retirement in 1992. Eileen was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional honor society of women educators, and Laubach Literacy International, which champions adult literacy causes. Eileen was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Loretto Church, where she taught in the C.C.D. program. She was an active member of the Haldane PTA and served as PTA President. In 1992 Eileen and Ralph retired to their farm in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. In retirement Eileen met many new friends, gave reading lessons to prison inmates, hosted memorable family reunions and introduced her many grandchildren to life at The Farm. She is survived by her nine children: John (Hanover, NH), Paul (Petersburgh, NY), Elizabeth Coursen (Pawling, NY), Kathleen Hanson (Stanardsville, VA), Eileen Raleigh (Darien, CT), James (Cotati, CA), Charles (Mims, FL), Mary Ellen Yannitelli (Garrison, NY), and Nancy Montgomery (Cold Spring, NY), her sisters Eleanor Smith (Queensbury, NY), and Joan Smith (Saratoga, NY), twenty-seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband (Ralph) and a grandchild (John Henry Coursen). A Mass of Christian interment in Cold Spring Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clinton Funeral Home, Cor. Parrott & Pine Sts. (21 Parrott St.) in Cold Spring, on Friday, September 5th from 4-7pm.

O'GARA, ELEANOR FRANCES

Eleanor Frances (Barber) O'Gara was born in Rye, NY and died on August 15, 2008 in Chico, CA, at the age of 97. Born to Mary (Coccola) and Louis Barber in 1911, Eleanor graduated from the College of New Rochelle, in 1932. She married James Vincent O'Gara in 1939 who preceded her in death in 1994. Eleanor's family was her life. She is survived by her six children, Barbara Carole, Eleanor (Charles) Gould, Pauline (John) Maurer, Mary Ann (Larry) Stewart, James (Cathy) O'Gara and Jane (James) Danielsen, as well as nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Venice, FL where she will be buried with her husband. PALUMBO, ANTHONY

Anthony Palumbo, of Mount Vernon, passed away on September 2, 2008 at Sound Shore Medical Center. He was 69 years old. Anthony was born on September 18, 1938 in Mount Vernon to the late Alexander and Anna Spinelli Palumbo Sr. Anthony married his wife Joy on May 6, 1972 in CT. He was a veteran of the US Army. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Danette Valente, grandchildren Noelle, Kristen, and Hillary, his great-grandchildren Jeremy and Keanu. He is the brother of Alexander, Jr., Dominick (Cathy), Dennis (Susan) Palumbo. Anthony is the nephew of Nettie Kirk, Rose Troini, Gloria Spinelli and the late Leonard Spinelli. His niece Kris Devenyi also survives. Funeral Service will be held on Friday 10:00 am at the Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Homes. Entombment, Ferncliff Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday 2-4, 7-9 PM. PASQUALE, JENNIE

Jennie Pasquale, 94, a resident of Port Chester, NY, died on September 3, 2008. She was born on October 20, 1913 to the late Domenico Grosse and Domenica Marie Pace Grosse. She was raised and educated in Port Chester and worked for many years at Arnold's Bakers until her retirement. She was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church, Port Chester, a member of the Holy Rosary Church 100th Anniversary Blue Ribbon Committee and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She married Jerry Pasquale April 24, 1938, He died in 1942. Mrs. Pasquale is survived by her son, Jerry Pasquale of Milton, NY her two sisters, Diane Fidelibus, of Port Chester, NY, Anne Luongo of Danbury, Ct. and her brother John M. Grosse of Port Chester, NY. Mrs. Pasquale is survived by two grandchildren, Laura Perry and her husband, Anthony of New Windsor, NY and Mary Pasquale of Milton, NY. Three great-grandchildren Mark, Sean and Luke Perry and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Carmel Lovallo, her grandson Daniel G. Pasquale and her daughter-in-law Celia Pasquale. Visitation will be 4-8PM on Friday, September 5, 2008 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10AM on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Holy Rosary Church Don Bosco Place Port Chester, NY. Interment to follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery Rye Brook, NY. Jennie's family was blessed to have her in their lives for so many years and they will continue to have her in their hearts all the days of their lives. POND, RICHARD SNOW

Richard Snow Pond, a much loved and well known Larchmont Woods resident, passed away on August 27, 2008. Mr. Pond was born and lived his entire life at the family home on Mountain Ave., a house famous in Southern Westchester for decades of elaborate holiday decorations and displays. For the area of Larchmont Woods, for as long as anyone can remember, Mr. Pond and the Mountain Ave. house played a part in everyone's childhood - a place where generations of area children were always welcome, whether it be to play basketball or hockey or just spend time with friends and local youths eagerly lent a helping hand when it came to assisting Mr. Pond in preparing the many and varied holiday displays which became local legend Mr. Pond served honorably in the Merchant Marines during World War ll from 1940 -1945. Mr. Pond was a teacher for most of his adult life and taught Athletics and History. He was the Athletic Director at Halsted School, Yonkers, at the time of his retirement in 1980. In 2006, Mr. Pond was the recipient of the key to the city of New Rochelle for his lifetime of contributions. Mr. Pond is survived by one brother, Robert, of North Attleboro, MA, one niece Clarissa Hesner, of Denmark and two great nieces. In accordance with his wishes, there will be a private died peacefully on September 1, 2008 at the age of 83. He was born on September 20, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Edward Renz and Agnes (Sundquist) Renz. He worked for Manhattan based importer and wholesaler, Hammel, Riglander and Co., Inc. for over 30 years, rising to the position of President. Later, when the company was sold, he continued to work as an independent consultant until the age of 79. He spent the first half of his life in Rye, New York and the last half in Mamaroneck, New York, both located on the Long Island Sound, where he loved to sail competitively with the Ensign Fleet during the summers and the Frostbiting Fleet during the winters. He was active and held official positions in both organizations. He graduated from Rye High School in 1942 and went on to Cornell University, where he attended the Cornell School of Architecture, which he left after enlisting in the Army to serve in the infantry during World War II. Edward, or Jim as he was called, served proudly and honorably in Company A of the 335 Infantry, 84th "Railsplitters" Division of the United States Army. He was called to active duty in March of 1943 and served until January of 1946. He ascended to the rank of Technical Sergeant, and served in Europe, where he received a Purple Heart for wounds received in combat on December 2, 1944 while fighting in Germany. Mr. Renz is survived by one daughter, Gail Renz of Concord, Massachusetts, two sons, Eric Renz of Fort Myers, Florida and Adam Renz of Mamaroneck, New York, six grandchildren, Nicole, Dylan, Dustin, Jesse, Benjamin and Nicholas, and three great-granddaughters, Peyton, Emerson and Reegan. He will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2008 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM the Graham Funeral Home, 1034 Boston Post Road, Rye, New York. Mr. Renz's final resting place will be at the Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, 785 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, New York 10605.
