Jean Ann Burke (nee Bennis) on August 26, 2008. Beloved wife of the late Anthony. Loving mother of William (Laura) and James. Cherished Nana of Christine and Caitlin. CATANIA, IRENE CERUSSI

Irene Cerussi Catania, a resident of Port Chester, on August 26, 2008. She was 86 and was born October 3, 1921 in the Bronx to the late Michael and Ida Deleo Cerussi. She graduated with a BA from Fordham University and with a Masters Degree from Columbia. She was language teacher for the New York City Public Schools. She was a parishioner of the Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester and a member of the Seton Circle. She was also a member of the Port Chester Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughter Elissa Ferretti, son Michael Catania, and son-in-law Joe Ferretti, all of Port Chester, NY, and grandchildren Joseph Ferretti and Diana Ferretti. She was predeceased by her sisters Maria and Florence Cerussi. Visitation will be 5-9 PM today, Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM on Friday, August 29, 2008 at Our Lady of Mercy Church 260 Westchester Ave.. Port Chester, NY. Interment to follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery Rye, NY. CLELAND, THOMAS

Thomas Gilmour Cleland, 66, died of pancreatic cancer on Friday, August 22nd. Mr. Cleland was born in South Glens Falls, New York in 1942. He and his wife Janice spent 23 years in Westchester County, New York, and moved to Virginia in 2005. He is survived by Janice, his wife of 41 years; daughter Kimberly and her husband Martial and son Xavier; daughter Kelly and her husband Charles and daughter Zoe; and beloved Black Lab, Mac. A memorial service will be held at The Presbyterian Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia on Friday, August 29th at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Mary Washington Hospice, 2600 Mary Washington Blvd., Fredericksburg, VA 22401.

DONAHUE, SR. EILEEN

Sister Eileen Donahue, RDC, a member of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on August 27, 2008 at White Plains Hospital. Sister Eileen was born in Waterbury, Ct. on May 16, 1921, the daughter of Thomas and Anastatia Donahue. Eileen had three siblings, Thomas, Mary and James, who was killed in combat in World War II. Sister Eileen entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion on August 15, 1939 and for a time was known as Sister Mary Eulalia. She attended Waterbury Catholic High School and received a BA degree from Good Counsel College in 1945. Sister attended Catholic University of America and earned a Masters Degree in Sociology. Her graduate study continued at Bucknell University, Kent State and the University of Georgia. Sister Eileen had an extensive and varied teaching career, eight years at the elementary level and 25 years at the secondary level teaching Latin, Science and Sociology. Her energy and interest brought her to Nursing as a second career and she received her RN from Pace University's Lienhard School of Nursing. She worked as a staff nurse on the surgical floor at the Westchester Medical Center until she was appointed Director of the Infirmary for the Sisters of the Divine Compassion. After many years of loving service at Good Counsel, Sister used her skills in the health care field serving migrant farmworkers and their families in Orange County at the William Thayer Alamo Migrant Clinic in Goshen, NY. Susan Merritt, President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, commented that "Sister Eileen was a lover of nature and her gardens were celebrated by the children and families served by the Mustard Seed Migrant Ministry sponsored by the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in Goshen, New York." Sister Eileen is survived by her Sisters of the Divine Compassion and her cousins, Rosella Purcell and Rosemary Abdella. Visitation will be at Good Counsel Convent, 52 North Broadway, White Plains, NY on Thursday, August 28 from 4 - 8 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Divine Compassion. Internment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, White Plains. McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, 52 North Broadway, White Plains, NY 10603.

DEMILIO, CHET

Chet DeMilio, 42, of Mohegan Lake, died on August 25, 2008. Chet was raised in Yorktown Hgts and went through the Yorktown School system. He received his Bachelor's from SUNY Plattsburgh and a Masters in Social Work from Fordham University. Chet was a Social Worker for The Rehabilitation Support Services in Mohegan Lake, working with people with disabilities. Chet will be remembered as a gentle, warm, loving person, always caring for others. He is survived by his father Chester DeMilio and stepmother Patti of Poughkeepsie, NY, his mother Kathleen Cahill and stepfather Hugh of Indian Land, South Carolina, his sister Theresa DeMilio of Charlotte, North Carolina, his friend Kelli Crispin also of Charlotte, his grandmother Mary Higgins of Yorktown, and uncle Ed Higgins of Bedford, Texas. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 30th, in the Fourth Unitarian Society of Westchester, 1698 Strawberry Road, Mohegan Lake, NY, at 11am. For those who wish, donations to the Fourth Unitarian Society are requested.

FREEMAN, MELVIN D.

Col. Melvin D. Freeman, USAF, Retired, of Chappaqua, NY, (89) on August 26 from a long-term illness. He was a devoted husband of 63 years to his late wife Helen Yuder Freeman and a beloved father and grandfather. A graduate of St. John's University and New York University, he was a licensed psychologist employed by FEGS for almost 63 years where he was Director of Psychological Services and helped thousands of people find a better life. He and his late wife were life-long philanthropists and generous benefactors to New York Medical College. Col. Freeman was a member of the Board of Trustees for New York Medical College, Family Services of Westchester and Physicians Home. He is survived by his two daughters, two grandchildren and a brother. Graveside services were held at Mt. Hebron Cemetery. Contributions in his honor may be made to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Southwestern Connecticut, 1029 East Main Street, Stamford, CT 06902.

GARVEY, JOHN J. SR.

John J. Garvey, Sr., passed away peacefully at home in New Rochelle with his family by his side on Tuesday August 26, 2008. Jack is survived by his beloved wife Betty, and was a devoted father to his daughters, Kathy Cruickshank, Susan Garvey, Beth Delaney, and is pre-deceased by his son John Garvey, Jr. He was a cherished grandfather to Christopher, Katelyn, Christina, and Grace. He was an executive at R.H. Macy's for over 25 years, after which he and his wife owned and operated the Severin Real Estate Co. in Larchmont. Jack will always be remembered for his strong belief in God, kindness and love for his family. He will be missed by many friends and loved ones. Visiting will be held at the Chapel at the Ursuline Provenical Center, 1338 North Ave, New Rochelle on Friday at 11:15 AM followed by a funeral mass at noon. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
