Ruth E. Knape, a housewife and lifelong area resident, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2008 in Pine Bush. She was 89.
The daughter of the late Harry Hyatt and Lorena Sanford Hyatt, she was born on September 15, 1918 in Chester. She was the widow of John J. Knape, Sr.
Ruth was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church in Monroe.
Survivors include her sons, John J. Knape, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Campbell Hall and William G. Knape and his wife Ann of Pine Bush; sister, Dorothy Yacano of South Plymouth, New York; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brother, Sanford Hyatt.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 2, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Kimberly Bosley officiating. Interment will follow in Cemetery of the Highlands in Highland Mills.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc., 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, New York 12550.

Edith Mae Lewis of Newburgh passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. Daughter of the late Alexander Keesler and Gertrude Conkin Keesler, she was born in Arden, NY, on December 28, 1918. She was 89.
Edith was a lifelong area resident and was a retired Machine Operator for Monroe Laundry Services in Monroe, NY. She was the widow of Frank P. Lewis, Sr.
Survivors include her sons, Richard Lewis of Newburgh, Robert Lewis of Greenwood Lake, and Stephen Lewis of Walden; daughters, Gertrude Knight of Highland Mills, Barbara Lewis of Monticello, Elaine Lewis of Newburgh, and Marion Pomales of Woodridge; brothers, George Keesler and Charles Keesler, both of Monroe; sister, Mabel Jones of Middletown; 28 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; nieces and nephews; and her dear friend Rea and caretaker Geraldine.
She was predeceased by two sons, William "Luke" Lewis and Frank P. Lewis, Jr.; a daughter, Evelyn Lewis; two brothers, William Keesler and Fred Keesler; and a sister, Elsie Gaffney.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in the funeral home. Rev. Kirtland M. Watkins will officiate. Interment will be in Cemetery of the Highlands, Highland Mills.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

DAMATO, ROBERT G.

Robert G. Damato, 53, of Edgewater, NJ, on August 29, 2008. Beloved husband of Virginia A. Damato. Loving son of Georgette and the late Robert J. Damato. Cherished father of Robert T., Trevor W., and Cory "Snyder" Damato. Dearest brother of Joseph Damato and his wife, Maureen. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Edgewater, NJ, for 30 years. Funeral Tuesday 10 AM from the Hunt Stellato Funeral Home, 1601 Palisades Avenue, Fort Lee, NJ. Funeral Mass 11 AM at Holy Rosary RC Church, Edgewater. Private Cremation. Friends will be received Monday 4-8 PM. Phillip J. Milazzo of South Blooming Grove, a 3 year area resident, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Goshen. He was 43.
The son of Gertrude Nilson Milazzo and the late Cateno Milazzo, he was born on January 5, 1965 in Astoria, Queens.
He was a printer for the New York City Transit Authority in New York City.
Survivors include his mother, Gertrude Milazzo of South Blooming Grove; brothers, Anthony and Michael Milazzo, both of South Blooming Grove; sisters, Lucy Milazzo of Westbrook, Connecticut and Susan Vlahos of Corfu, Greece; nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe. Interment will follow in St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.

Joseph J. Ganz, of South Blooming Grove, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at his home. He was 72.
The son of the late John M. Ganz and Barbara Schaffer Ganz, he was born on April 8, 1935 in the Bronx.
He was a retired diesel mechanic for MABSTOA in the Bronx. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and the Navy Reserves. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Washingtonville; V.F.W. Post #8961 in Washingtonville; Washingtonville Little League; Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Lourdes Council #5890 in Washingtonville; and a member of the Sixty Plus and Blue & Gold Senior Clubs.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ballock Ganz at home; sons, Chris J. Ganz and his wife Karen of Washingtonville and Eric A. Ganz of Central Valley; daughter, Maryann Sieczek and her husband Mark of Florida, New York; sister, Eva Bartolf and her husband John of Little River, South Carolina; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 24, 2008 & Monday, February 25, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. V.F.W. services will be held on Monday at 7:15 p.m. in the funeral home.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 42 Goshen Avenue, Washingtonville, with Rev. Paul Dmoch officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Washingtonville.

NILSSON, DORIS SIGNE (BEHRENS)

Doris Signe (Behrens) Nilsson, a long time resident of Upper Saddle River, NJ, died Thursday, August 28th in Catonsville, Md. after a short illness, A native of Irvington, NY, Doris was an outstanding athlete at Irvington High School in the 1920's and played semi-pro basketball for the town in the 1930's. In 1936 she married Herbert I Nilsson and had one daughter, Daryl. She worked for 23 years at Bell Telephone and Telegraph and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.The family moved to NJ where Doris enjoyed gardening, sports, and travel. She was a life-long Yankee Fan and an animal lover extrodinaire. She recently moved to Catonsville, MD, to be near her daughter. Surviving are her daughter, Daryl Ann (Nilsson) and son-in-law Jim Rohrbacher; granddaughters Amy Lynn Rohrbacher of Mt. Vernon, WA, and Dana Elizabeth Rohrbacher of Wilmington, NC; and grandson Kurt Nilsson Rohrbacher of Arlington, VA. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Herbert I. Nilsson in 1979; her parents, Agnes and Richard Behrens; brothers Ernest and Richard and sisters, Agnes and Florence. Funeral Service 10:30 AM Tuesday St. Barnabas Church, Irvington Visiting 2-4 and 7-9PM Monday Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home. DeSTEFANO, JOSEPH P.

Joseph P. DeStefano, a resident of Yonkers, NY, since 1982 and formerly of Mt. Vernon, died peacefully on August 30, 2008. For many years he was a self-employed tile and mason craftsman. Born on June 7, 1952 in Afrigola Di Napoli, Italy, he was 56. Joe enjoyed cooking and working on cars and spending time with his family and friends. Devoted son of Ida (Iovino) and the late Vincenzo DeStefano. Beloved husband of Barbara (Del Bene) De Stefano. Cherished father of Joseph and Debra De Stefano. Dear brother of Angelo, Anthony, Jerry De Stefano, Adrianna and Ursula, De Stefano. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave., on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass at St. Bartholomew Church on Tuesday at 11 AM, followed by a Committal Service at Ferncliff Chapel.
