SCARDUZIO, JOANNE
JoAnne Scarduzio, formerly of Ossining, died October 21, 2008. She was born March 7, 1927 to Fred and Barbara Menna. JoAnne was a wonderful mother and friend. She was pre-deceased by her husband Michael A. Scarduzio. JoAnne is survived by her son Michael of Ossining, daughters Sandra Scarduzio Gasparini of Spring Valley, Barbara Scarduzio of Valapie, NY, 8 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and her cat Emalee. She will be reposing Sun. 2-4 & 7-9PM at Leach & Thomas, Inc. 32 State St. Ossining. Graveside service Mon. 10AM St. Augustine˘s Cemetery.

HADJSTYLIANOS, CHARLES
Charles Hadjstylianos died on October 12, 2008 while vacationing with his family in Cabo San Lucas , Mexico . He was the son of the late Julia DiLeonardo and Zenon Hadjstylianos of Harrison , NY . Charlie will be remembered for the great love he had for his family, a most wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and good friend to many, loyal with great integrity. He took great pride in his work, was an avid motorcyclist, a wonderful cook and a very generous man. He will be missed more than words can say, but we know he is with the Lord and we will be reunited with him one day. Charlie is survived by wife Barbara, sons Charlie Jr. (Erin) of Liberty, NY, Jason (Natalie) and Jared of Ossining NY, sister Angela Salvo (Chris) of Pleasantville, brothers Dan Hadjstylianos of Watertown CT, Pastor Ray Hadjstylianos of White Plains, two nephews Chris Salvo (Lorraine) and Matthew Hadjstylianos, three nieces Karen Simmons (Steven), Danielle and Kristin Hadjstylianos. The family will receive friends Friday 4-7 pm at Leach & Thomas, Inc. 32 State Street Ossining where Services will be held at 6:30PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Foundation Fighting Blindness 11435 Cronhill Dr. Owings Mills, MD 21117 , NYPD PBA 40 Fulton St. NY, NY 10038 or Ossining PBA 16 Croton Ave Ossining, NY 10562 appreciated.

HOLDER, ANNETTE R.
Annette R. Holder of Ossining died October 13, 2008, she was 81. She was born September 16, 1927 to William and Elizabeth (Heinrich) Rogers. Annette was a graduate of Ossining High School, class of ˘45. She worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Ossining School District for 28 years. Annette went back to school and graduated from Empire State College through SUNY Purchase with a BS. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William, daughter Lynne H. Romano of Myrtle Beach SC, sons William of Yonkers, Eric of Ossining, Dean of Westerville OH and 4 grandchildren. She will be reposing Thursday 2-4 & 7-9PM at Leach & Thomas, Inc. 32 State Street Ossining. Funeral Service Friday 11AM at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer 120 King Street Chappaqua, burial Bethel Cemetery Croton.

ASCHERMAN, ERNEST WILLIAM

Ernest William Ascherman, formerly of Ossining, died on September 12, 2008 in Blue Ridge, Georgia. He is mourned by his wife Shirley, two sons, Ernest and Kurt, three step children and six grandchildren. A 1937 graduate of Ossining High and 1942 graduate of Syracuse University he spent 37 years in the Ossining School Systems, as a coach, teacher and administrator. Ascherman served as Assistant football coach under the legendary Jim Dilley, and head baseball coach at Ossining. He retired as Principal of the Anne M. Dorner Middle School in 1975. His parents owned Ascherman˘s Bakery in Ossining. His wife Vivian passed away in 1975. A memorial service will be held at the small church behind Ossining High school on Wolden Rd. October 18 at 5pm. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that contributions be sent to the Coach Ernest Ascherman Scholarship Fund and sent to Coach Dan Ricci at the Ossining High School Athletic Department.

DENT, JOE L.
Joe L. Dent of Ossining died February 10, 2010, he was 62. He was born September 18, 1947 in Lumpkin, Georgia to Luke & Orris Lee Walker Dent. Joe worked as a shipping clerk in Irvington for Eileen Fisher Co. He is survived by his wife Ernestine Smith Dent, step-sons Kevin Smith, Lee Smith, Jeffrey Smith, step-daughter Erica McCabe, brothers Paul Dent, Benjamin Dent, John Randy Dent, sisters Margaret Bass, Patty Alexander, Carrie Johnson, Barbara Dent Smith and 8 grandchildren. He will be reposing Saturday 3-5PM at Leach & Thomas, Inc. 32 State Street Ossining. Services and burial will take place at the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Louvale, Georgia. Burial to follow in the family plot

WHITE, LEON
Leon White, formerly of Ossining, died January 22, 2010 in Chandler , Arizona from complications following heart surgery. Leon ’s mother wanted all of her children to be born in the North. She was on her way to Ossining from North Carolina to give birth to a second son. The bus driver stopped for the night in a small town in Virginia and informed all the black passengers they would have to find their own lodging. Leon was born in a barn that night but arrived in Ossining shortly thereafter. Leon graduated from Ossining High School and served as a hospital corpsman in the Navy during the Korean War. Leon attended Fordham and New York University . He married Shirley Cherry in 1960. Leon worked for Con Edison for 5 years. He served as a volunteer with the Ossining Police Department and joined the force in 1966. Leon became Ossining ’s first black Sergeant in the early 1970’s. He bought a house on Independence Place where his mother had once worked as a cleaning lady. He lived in Ossining until 1980. Leon loved life and tried just about everything (at least once). He had a lifelong interest in cars and developed a passion for flying, earning his pilot’s license in 1978. When Leon retired from the Ossining Police Department in 1980, he flew his single-engine Cessna to his new home in Tucson Arizona . Leon worked as a car salesman and gun salesman in Tucson and then for many years as a Police Officer with the VA Hospital. Leon is survived by his children Rodney White (Doreen) of Montgomery, NY and Cheryl Annette Goyette (Robert) of Yorktown Heights, NY, his granddaughter Aniya, his former wife Shirley, his brothers Warren, Jesse, Robert and his sister Rita Taylor and many nieces and nephews. Leon was pre-deceased by his parents, Hezzie and Jesse, his brothers Willie and Herbert and his sister Leatrice. A memorial gathering will take place Tuesday February 2, 2010 at Leach & Thomas, Inc. Funeral Home 32 State Street Ossining , NY between 4-7PM. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, cards, well wishes and support. Leon embraced life, let’s take a page from his book and remember to live life to the fullest

McDonald, Plezzie Mae
Plezzie Mae McDonald of Ossining died Jan. 17, 2010. She is survived by her daughter Annie Pearl Bentley (Lewis), 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. She will be reposing Thurs. 10AM-12PM at Leach & Thomas, Inc. 32 State Street Ossining where the Service will begin at 12PM, burial Dale Cemetery.

LEGGIO, DOMENICA T. (MINNIE)
Domenica Leggio of Briarcliff Manor died January 7, 2010, she was 77. She was born July 3, 1932 in the Bronx to Nunzio & Domenica DiDonato. Domenica worked at Pace University for 25 years. She was pre-deceased by her husband Salvatore who died April 11, 2001. She is survived by her sons Salvatore Jr. (Karyl), Andrew (Laura), daughters Josephine (Michael) Scala, Nancy Romano, sister Nancy(Mario) Magliacano, grandchildren Ryan Marie, Tory, Kevin, Carina, Ariana, Christina, Michael Jr., Stephanie, Christopher & Amanda. She will be reposing Sat. 7-9PM & Sun. 2-5PM at Leach & Thomas, Inc. 32 State St. Ossining . Mass of Christian burial Mon. 10AM at St. Theresa’s Church in Briarcliff, entombment Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.

McCAINE, JEANE
Jeane McCaine of Croton, formerly of Ossining, died March 17, 2010, she was 81. She was born May 26, 1928 in Ossining to Edward & Florence Warne. Jeane worked at Maryknoll for many years. She was pre-deceased by her husband Robert & son Michael. A graveside service will be held Tuesday 12PM at Dale Cemetery in Ossining.

JOHNSON-JONES, VANESSA C.

Vanessa C. Johnson-Jones of Ossining died March 11, 2010, she was 50. She was born March 24, 1959 in Mt. Vernon, NY to Ralph & Effie Johnson. Vanessa worked for many years at Phelps Memorial Hospital; she was the Director of Communications. Vanessa is survived by her husband Errol Jones of Ossining, daughter Nicole Kande of Ossining, father Ralph, granddaughter Lelia Dillard, brothers Keith & Lance Johnson and wife Stacy and a host of friends. Vanessa was pre-deceased by her mother Effie. She will be reposing Thursday 2-4 & 7-9PM at Leach & Thomas, Inc. 32 State St. Ossining where services will be held Friday 11AM, interment private.
