Rosemary "Jeanie" Jordan
POUGHKEEPSIE - Rosemary "Jeanie" Jordan, 77, of Poughkeepsie, died December 16, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She resided at the Pines Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie for many years and was loved by all who knew her there. She was always smiling and brought joy to all who visited and knew her. Born Feb. 6, 1931 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of Matthew J. Jordan and Maria Fiandaca. Survivors include a brother, Matthew Jordan, Poughkeepsie; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a great niece, Avery. She was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Caplay and a brother, Salvatore Jordan. Calling hours are Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 from 5-7pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 218 Mill St., Poughkeepsie. Wheelchair entrance is located in the rear of the funeral home on Vassar St. Funeral services will take place Monday, 11:30am at the funeral home with Mnsr. Brinn officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.

Elena Juliano
TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE - Elena Juliano, of Town of Poughkeepsie, died December 15, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. A longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, she had been employed at Arlington Central School District until her retirement. She previously resided in Boville Ernica, Italy, where she was born. She was a member of the Church of Holy Trinity. On Sept. 14, 1952 in the Church of Holy Trinity, Poughkeepsie, she married Louis J. Juliano, Sr., who predeceased her. Survivors include a son, Louis J. Juliano, Jr. of Poughkeepsie; a daughter, Anna Juliano-Reeves, Poughkeepsie; two granddaughters, Lauren Sheldon and Julianna Reeves and a nephew, Aldo Virasi, Poughkeepsie. Calling hours will be held Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 from 6-9pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 218 Mill St., Poughkeepsie. Wheelchair entrance is located in the rear of funeral home on Vassar St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 10:15am at the Church of Holy Trinity, 775 Main St., Poughkeepsie. Entombment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery Mausoleum in Poughkeepsie.

Anthony D. Juranic
MILAN - Anthony "Tom" Juranic, 87, of Milan, NY, and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, December 15, 2008. Anthony was an avid hunter and fisherman, helping to organize the former Red Hook Gun Club. He was a former member of the Red Hook Boat Club and the Milan Fire Department. He also was a member of the International Order Odd Fellows in Red Hook. For many years and until his retirement Tom was a heavy equipment operator for Dutchess County Department of Public Works. Previously he worked on the family farm, the Poughkeepsie Foundry, and Staats Dairy Transport. After his retirement, he continued to drive for Rock City Sand and Gravel. Born on July 24, 1921, in New York, NY, he was the son of the late John and Frances (Galanich) Juranic, Sr. Anthony married Dorothy L. Teator on July 8, 1944 in St. Christopher's Church, Red Hook. Dorothy predeceased him on July 30, 2001. He is survived by daughter & son-inlaw; Cindy & Greg Harrison of Oak Bluffs, MA, a daughter Carolyn Small of Milan, NY, two grandsons; Joseph Osterhoudt and his wife Lindsay, and Robert Small, two great grandchildren; Amanda and Justin Small, along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at St. John's Reformed Church, Red Hook, NY. The Rev. Ryan T. Nace will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook. Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Friday, December 19th, 2008 from 5-7 PM. Memorial donations may be made in Anthony's memory to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Rd, Suite 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook, NY.

Viola H. Kicara
EAST FISHKILL - Viola H. Kicara, 57, a resident of Hopewell Junction, since 1977 and formerly of Hudson, died on Monday, December 15, 2008 at her home. Born in Hudson on January 22, 1951, she was employed by the Dutchess County Motor Vehicles Department for 25 years until her retirement in 2006. On December 11, 1977 in Hudson, she married John Kicara who died on January 17, 2006. Survivors include her brother-in-law, William Kicara and his wife, Marion of Dunnellon, FL; her nieces and nephews, Karen and James Mackey, Laura Kicara, and William J. Kicara; and her greatniece, Katherine Mackey. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Fishkill Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Memorial donations may be made to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY 12538.

Julian Mulak
Julian Peter Mulak, age 86, of Poughkeepsie, NY, died December 9th, 2008 at "Tidewell Hospice House" in Sarasota, Florida. Julian was born in Somers, Connecticut, on January 24th, 1922. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Wappingers Falls. Julian served his country with honor in the Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Tufts and Columbia Universities. After the war he continued to serve his country with the aerospace program, NASA and our country's defense systems with Fairchild, Lockheed Martin and IBM in various departments of management. He retired from IBM in 1991. Julian is survived by Penny, whom he called "the love of my life"; his daughter, Noel Lewandowski and her husband, Alan of Torrington, CT; his three sons, Geoffrey Weaver and his wife, Kathryn of Poughkeepsie, Douglas Weaver and his wife, Laura of Kinnelon, NJ and James Weaver and his wife, Jennifer of Poughkeepsie; his daughter, Katherine Maurer, Denver CO., whom he called "his favorite person" when talking on the phone; seven grandchildren, Catherine, John, Mark, Jane, Daniel, Nicolas and Morgan; and his great grandsons Jonathon and Oliver. Julian was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley (Starr) Mulak and his son, Gerald P. Mulak. A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday December 20th 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 2568 South Avenue, Wappingers Falls NY. For assistance or directions please call the church at (845) 297-2800. The family requests no flowers. Donations may be made to "Meals on Wheels" c/o of First Presbyterian Church, 2568 South Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. Somers Funeral Home has been entrusted with Julian's arrangements.

Joseph Anthony Pavelock
FISHKILL - Joseph Anthony Pavelock, born September 20, 1921, in Brockway (Town of Fishkill), New York, passed away on December 15, 2008. Known for his ready smile and many friends, he touched many lives in his 87 years. While not the beneficiary of much formal schooling, he derived his education from life experiences. He worked from age 11 on, helping his family through the Great Depression, and later served our nation for many years in the 1066 Guard Squadron US Army Aircorps as well as the National Guard, through World War II (where he stormed the beach at Normandy on D-Day), earning medals and accolades. A family man, he worked full time (often a number of jobs), raised children, coached baseball, and provided a safe and stable home environment. A jack of all trades and always ready to lend a hand, he was a great neighbor, friend and father. He is survived by his four children, Lisa Pavelock Soeder, Nantucket, MA; Vincent Joseph Pavelock, Palos Verdes, CA, Dana James Pavelock, New Paltz, and Joanne Pavelock; his three grandchildren, Alexander James Pavelock, Sarah Rose Pavelock and Devin Joseph Kennedy Pavelock; two of his four siblings, John Pavelock and Stanley Pavelock; many nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends. A man of simple pleasures and modest means but rich in the love and respect of all who knew him, Joseph Pavelock was most content in the comfort of his home where he lived until he died. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 17, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the Veterans Section in St. Joachim's Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon. Donations in memory of Mr. Pavelock may be made to Hudson Valley HEAT Baseball, c/o Dana Pavelock, 8 Luna Dr., New Paltz, NY 12561.

Teresa Castiglione Peluse
POUGHKEEPSIE - Teresa Castiglione Peluse, of Poughkeepsie, NY, died December 15, 2008 at the Lutheran Care Center at Concord Village. Born Apr. 7, 1913, the daughter of John Castiglione and Mary Castiglione Cavalieri, she was a lifetime resident of Poughkeepsie. Teresa was a graduate of local schools and a graduate of Albany State Vocational School. On July 16, 1960, she married William Peluse, who predeceased her on Feb. 2, 1992. She taught sewing in the Poughkeepsie and Middletown School Districts and after retiring from teaching became a supervisor at Cavalier Electronics. She was also a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital and a member of the St. Francis Auxiliary. Teresa was predeceased by a brother, Michael and his wife, Margaret; a sister, Mary Castiglione Mitchell and a brother, Dominic A. Cavalieri and his son, Dominic F. Cavalieri. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Pauline and Anthony Mitchell, Joanne and Donald Thomas, Vincent A. Mitchell, sisters-in-law, Shirley Cavalieri and Madeline Peluse; also very special friends, her roommate, Florence Williams and Loretta Yerks, who visited with her regularly at the center, giving her encouragement and assistance. Teresa also wanted to acknowledge that the aides, nurses, doctors and staff provided her with excellent and compassionate care. Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 18th, from 9-10am at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 218 Mill St., Poughkeepsie. Wheelchair entrance is located in the rear of the funeral home on Vassar St. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
