Juan Antonio De La Hoz Torres
TOWN OF EAST FISHKILL - Juan Antonio De La Hoz Torres, a resident of the Town of East Fishkill, entered into rest Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at his home. He was 76. Son of the late Demetrio De La Hoz and Evangelina Torres Mondelo, he was born January 20, 1932 in Guantanamo, Cuba. He married Ada Soto on November 25, 1961 in Guantanamo, Cuba. Together with his wife and family, he came to this country on May 11, 1973. Mrs. De La Hoz Torres survives at home in Hopewell Junction. Juan was a pharmacist in Cuba and worked at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, Connecticut. He was a member of Igelsia El Sembrador in Wappingers Falls and the Masons in New York City. He was a talented orator; at special occasions he enjoyed giving speeches and sharing poems. Juan was known as "The Good Man" and "Everybody's Father." In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Demetrio De La Hoz and his wife, Lola of West Haven, Connecticut, Eddy De La Hoz and his wife, Cindy of Fishkill and Mayrena De La Hoz and her husband, Saul Cano of Hopewell Junction; his brother, Rolando De La Hoz Torres and his wife, Xiomara of Port Chester, New York; his sister, Anna Maria De La Hoz Torres of Cuba; his grandchildren, Eddy, Renzo, Carolina, Marcos, Emely, Grace, Saul and Trianna; and several nieces and nephews including his nephew, Rolandito De La Hoz. He was predeceased by two brothers, Alfredo and Hector De La Hoz Torres. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, December 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, December 19 at Igelsia El Sembrador (First Presbyterian Church), 2568 South Avenue, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9, Fishkill. Memorial donations on Juan's behalf may be made to Igelsia El Sembrador, 2568 South Avenue, Wappingers Falls, New York 12590 for Bibles and to help the needy.

Arthur Trempen
ORANGE PARK, FL - Arthur Edward Trempen, 90, passed on December 11, 2008 at home with his family. Arthur was born on October 3, 1918, in Astoria Queens, NY and was raised in Woodhaven, NY. He attended New York University. He joined the Army in 1942 and served his country in Italy and Africa during WWII, he rose to the rank of Major. Arthur was a supervisor for the New York Telephone Company, working in the Pawling and Poughkeepsie areas. He retired to St. Petersburg and Sun City Center with his loving wife, Lillian, after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Pioneers of America. During his retirement he was a very active volunteer for the Good Samaritan in Sun City Center. Arthur was predeceased by his loving wife Lillian. He is survived by his three daughters, Carol Bulson of Atlantic Beach, Florida, Jeanne Woodruff of Atlantic Beach, Florida and Nancy Bartlett of Jacksonville, Florida. He is also survived by six grandchildren, grandson, Brian Woodruff of Green Cove Springs, Florida, granddaughters, Lori Loele of Pittsford, NY, Kimberleigh Phelan of Slingerlands, NY, Kelly Conlan of Baldwin, NY, Kristin Bartlett of Orange Park, Florida and Michelle Bartlett of Orange Park, Florida. He is also survived by one great grandson and seven great granddaughters. He was a wonderful, loving and kind father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and friend, who will be greatly missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Catharine's Catholic Church, Orange Park on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. Arrangements entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home, Jacksonsville, FL.

Dorothy Baker
POUGHKEEPSIE - Dorothy Baker aka "Aunt Dot", 68, of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. A 52 year resident of Poughkeepsie, she was a retired laborer for the Hudson River Psychiatric Center and a faithful member of Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, Manchester Circle, Poughkeepsie. Born in Whitakers, NC on May 9, 1940, she was the daughter of the late James Parker Sr. and Fannie Bunn. She is survived by her sons, Mohammad F. Akbar, Randolph Baker, Jr. and his wife, Darlene, all of Poughkeepsie; two daughters, Donna Williams of Greensboro, NC and Viola Adams of Poughkeepsie; four brothers, James W. Bunn and his wife, Ruth; James Parker and his wife, LaDoris; Thomas Bunn and his wife, Frances, all of Poughkeepsie; and William E. Bunn and his wife, Hazel of Burlington, NC; four sisters, Ernestine Booker and her husband, Charles; Shirley Riggins, Margaret Stroman and her husband, Albert; and Vivian Neal, all of Poughkeepsie. Special dearest friends, Caletia Byrd and Melvina Coleman. A host of nieces, nephews and many friends also survive her. She was predeceased by her parents, and a sister, Pearl Graham. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 from 6pm to 8 pm at Rhodes Funeral Chapel, 43 Fairview Avenue, Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009 at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, 30 Manchester Circle, Poughkeepsie, Elder David Barnes will officiate. Interment will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Rhodes Funeral Home, 43 Fairview Ave., Poughkeepsie, entrusted with professional arrangements.

Gertrude Harrington Bevier
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Gertrude Harrington Bevier, 81, died on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at her home in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was the wife of Richard Benjamin Bevier, who died last year. She is survived by 2 daughters, Susan Bevier Roy and her husband, Paul A. Roy, of Charlestown, RI and Martha Vail Bevier of Charlottesville, VA; and 3 grandchildren, Sarah Harrington Roy, Courtney Bevier Roy, and Thomas Benjamin Roy. Her son, Thomas Dumont Bevier, predeceased her. She was the daughter of the late Dr James Taylor Harrington and Lavina Vail Harrington of Poughkeepsie, New York. She had 2 older sisters, Jocelyn Harrington Breed and Natalie Harrington Zook, and a brother Willard Vail Harrington who predeceased her. She graduated from The Masters School and Bradford College. She was a member of the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club, the Junior League, the Charlotte Garden Club, and served on the board of Planned Parenthood. She was a supporter of the Arts in Charlotte. Burial will be in the family plot in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911 Calling Hours will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at the Charlotte Marriott South Park and again from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at her home, 2020 Field Creek Lane, Charlottesville.

Virginia H. Dahlem
Virginia H. Dahlem, passed into the hands of our Lord on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Northern Dutchess Hospital after a short illness. She was 81. She was born in the Bronx on May 19, 1927, a daughter of the late Edward and Anna Poole Hurley. Virginia was a 1947 graduate of St. Vincent's Hospital, School of Nursing in Manhattan. She belonged to the St. Vincent's Alumni Association. She moved to Rhinebeck in 1959 and then over to Ulster County in 1982. For 13 years she worked at Benedictine Hospital as an operating room nurse. She retired in 1993. She moved to Wells Manor, Rhinebeck in 2008. A former parishioner of St. Catherine Laboure Church, Lake Katrine, she was a member of the Apostolate for Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration, Divine Mercy Chapel, Kingston. Surviving are her five sons Thomas P. Dahlem and his wife Diana of South Lyon, MI, Michael P. Dahlem and his wife Lauri of Windsor, CT, Stephen P. Dahlem and his wife Kathleen of South Glastonbury, CT, Joseph G. Dahlem and his wife Marlene of Rhinebeck, and John N. Dahlem and his wife Helen of Charlotte, NC; ten grandchildren Rebekah Craft, Ruth, Rachel, Alexis, Michelle, Alexander, Branden, Taylor, Matthew and Jill Dahlem; two nieces, who she loved as daughters, Claire Markarian of Needham, MA and Lorraine Delgado of Hyde Park; and a former colleague, devoted friend of 60 years and kindred spirit, Sister Rose Marie Mullen of Poughkeepsie. One sister Viola Holley died in 1998. Virginia's family would like to thank the nurses and medical staff of Northern Dutchess Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care she received during her illness. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Mission Church, Mulford Ave., Statsburg. Rev. Michael L. Palazzo will celebrate. Arrangements by Simpson – Gaus Funeral Home, Kingston. Memorial contributions may be made to "Divine Mercy Chapel", 467 Delaware Ave., Kingston, NY 12401.

David N. DiMarco
HYDE PARK - David N. DiMarco, 60, of Hyde Park, former resident of Wappingers and previously of St. Augustine, FL and Wilmington, NC, died Thursday, January 29, 2009 at home. He was a Meat Cutter for Shop Rite, Wappingers Falls. Born November 4, 1948, in Beacon, he was the son of Orlando and Dina DiGiandomenico DiMarco. He married Norma Jean TenEyck DiMarco, who survives at home. Survivors include daughter, Nannette Barry and John of Wappingers Falls; sons, David DiMarco and Billie Jo of Hendersen, NV; Nicholas DiMarco and Jennifer Windheim of Wappingers Falls; eight grandchildren and one expected grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins; sisters, Dina Cruz of the Town of Poughkeepsie; Gilda Terrey of Hyde Park; brother, Orlando DiMarco and wife, Julie of Wilmington NC. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Campala, Edith Paonessa; brothers, John DiMarco, Gulio DiMarco and Nicholas DiMarco. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, from 6-7pm, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church, Clinton St., Wappingers Falls, NY. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Agnes Harris Gillet
MARLBORO - Agnes Harris Gillet, 83, a local resident of Marlboro, for four months, previously a ten year resident of Highland and previous to that was Cortland, where she raised her family, died Friday, January 30, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital. She was employed at Monarch Machine & Tool Company, until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Mid Hudson Senior Citizens, in Highland and First Presbyterian Church, in Highland. Born November 26, 1925, in Lexington, NC, she was the daughter of Reuben and Clatie Greene Harris. On February, 12, 1950, in Cortland, she married Fred H. Gillet, who predeceased her in May 12, 1987. She is survived by two daughters, Priscilla Sodums of Barnet, Vermont; Melanie Bolstad and her husband Richard of Highland; one son, John Gillet and his wife, Ann of North Tonawanda; nine grandchildren, Michael, Patrick and Devin Sodums, Jeffrey, Brian and Scott Bolstad, Bethany, Katelyn and Allison Gillet; one sister, Louise Vormwald of Clearwater, FL; one brother, Fred Harris of Ashville, NC: several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Laura Wright and Dorcas Holland and two brothers, Richard and Roy Harris. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 1st, from 2-4pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main St., Highland. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 2nd, at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church in Highland. Burial will take place in Cortland Cemetery, in Cortland, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 725, Highland, NY 12528 or a charity of your choice in Agnes Gillet's name.
