Rita Biondini
HYDE PARK - Rita Biondini, 93, a Hyde Park resident for seven and a half years, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at home surrounded by her family. A former Queens Village resident for over sixty years, Mrs. Biondini worked as a Supervisor at Sterns Dept. Store in Long Island for over thirty years until her retirement in March, 1984. She was a member of the S.N.A.P. Senior Citizen Organization in Queens for sixteen years. In S.N.A.P., she acted as treasurer, ran trips, was active with the hospitality committee, their flea markets, and doing crafts. Mrs. Biondini also volunteered as a Mentor at PS 33 elementary school in Queens Village for many years, and enjoyed sewing for herself. Rita loved the opera and went regularly with her husband to the Met. She enjoyed going to the beach and walking the boardwalk with her husband and children. Family was most important to Rita, and children always gravitated to her, whether at the mall or her own family members. Most recently, she was a communicant of Regina Coeli Church, Hyde Park, and formerly of Our Lady of Lourdes, Queens Village. Born in Lyons, NY on January 12, 1916, she was the daughter of the late John and Nicoletta DeAngelis. She was a graduate of John Adams High School in Brooklyn, and also attended St. John's University for two years. On September 16, 1939 in St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn, she married William A. Biondini Sr. Mr. Biondini predeceased her on November 4, 1984. Survivors include her son, William A. Biondini Jr. and wife, Gerry, of Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Elaine Carreras Miressi and husband, Lou Miressi, of Hyde Park; five grandchildren, Eugene Carreras and wife, Anne, Edward Carreras and wife, Mindy, Eileen Arnold and husband, Chris, Evelyn Hess and husband, John, and Celeste Schulman and husband, William; nine great grandchildren, Rachel, Thomas, Gabriela, Joseph, and Steven Carreras, Darius, Audriana, and Domenica Hess, and Matthew Arnold; sister, Farra Lorenz of Long Island; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by five brothers, one sister, and numerous aunts and uncles. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am, Monday, February 23rd at Mariapolis Luminosa, 200 Cardinal Rd., Hyde Park. Rev. Michael Palazzo will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or, the March of Dimes, 1275 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10605, or the Hospice Foundation, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Evelyn Fultz
Evelyn Fultz, 93, died peacefully at Gilchrist Center Hospice in Towson, Maryland, on February 17, 2009, after a hard-fought, lucid, 6-week battle against a brain tumor. A native of Salem, Indiana, and the widow of Max G. Fultz, she was a former resident of Concord, Massachusetts and lived in Red Oaks Mill and Wappingers Falls, New York, for nearly 20 years. She is survived by her daughters, Ginger Pisani of Towson, MD, Maxine Goetschius of West Yarmouth, MA, Barbara Fultz Martinez of New York City, and her sister, Mary Hickman of Weatherford, TX. Ann Jackson of Beacon is one of her 7 grandchildren, Ann's son, Cody Jackson and her daughter, Jessica Cataldi of Hopewell Junction are two of her 10 great grandchildren and Raven Cataldi is her one great-grandchild. Evelyn Fultz was greatly beloved by four generations of children, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Each generation that knew her drew endless pleasure and unfailing support from her positive energy, uncompromised values, wry humor, and generous love. Hers is a place of honor in each of their lives that is filled with her undying memory.

William F. Hattar
LAGRANGEVILLE - William F. Hattar, 46, a resident of LaGrangeville, since 1993 and formerly of Yonkers, died on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Born in Yonkers on January 31, 1963, he was the son of Fahed and Rifah Hattar of LaGrangeville. He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church, Hopewell Junction and was studying to be a Laboratory Technician at Dutchess Community College. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, five brothers and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow in Hopewell Cemetery.

Elizabeth "Shirley" Jamieson
WAPPINGERS FALLS - Elizabeth "Shirley" Jamieson, a resident of Wappingers Falls since 1960 and formerly of Newburgh, entered into rest Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. She was 82. Daughter of the late Norman and Helen Houghtaling Snow, she was born September 16, 1926 in Poughkeepsie. She married Samuel Carl Jamieson on October 14, 1945 in Newburgh. Mr. Jamieson preceded her in death March 19, 1997. Mrs. Jamieson was a member of the Hughsonville Presbyterian Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hughsonville Fire Company and the Phiffinella Club of Newburgh. She is survived by her two daughters, Carol Rydell and her husband, Jack of Newburgh and Patricia Kenyon and her husband, Theodore of Wappingers Falls; her two grandchildren, Cheri Rydell and her fiancé, Wolfe Wyder of Newburgh and Michael Rydell and his wife, Jennifer of Wallkill; her three great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Lila and Ella Rydell all of Wallkill and four nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Norman Snow. Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 21, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, New York 12590. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, February 23 at the funeral home with Pastor Lindsay Borden officiating. Memorial donations on Shirley's behalf may be made to the Hughsonville Fire Company, PO Box 545, Hughsonville, New York 12537.

Maria Mendieta
WAPPINGERS FALLS - Maria Teresa Mendieta, 67, a resident of Wappingers Falls for 20 years and formerly of Westchester County, died on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. She was a seamstress. Born in Ecuador on April 17, 1941, she was the daughter of Juan Zoilo Mendieta and Angela Romero. She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church, Hopewell Junction. Maria is survived by her children, John Zambrano and his wife, Nora of Wappingers Falls, Boris Zambrano and his wife, Samia of Ecuador and Gabriela Economico and her husband, Joseph of Wappingers Falls; her brothers, Delcito, Juan, Freddy, Wilberto and Fabian Mendieta; her sisters, Tedi Avellan, Maria Mendieta and Karola Mendieta; eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, PO Box 27106, New York, NY 10087-7106 and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38106.

John C. Overbeck
LAGRANGEVILLE - John Charles Overbeck, 90 years old, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Hospital. John was born on November 2, 1918 in Queens, NY and was the son of the late John E. and Freda L. Overbeck. He graduated from Madison High School in Brooklyn, NY. John joined the US Army in 1940 and served in Europe during WWII. He was a Life Member of the American Legion serving as Commander of Floyd Bennett Post in Brooklyn and County Commander of Kings County, NY. John married the late Winifred M. McGavin in May 1946. Their children are daughters, Carol Overbeck Wood and husband, Dave, Judy Overbeck Joyner and husband, Tim, and son, John T. Overbeck and the late Kathryn Reed Overbeck. His grandchildren are Karen Burns and her husband, Kevin, Mike Wood and his wife, Alicia, Kimberly O'Connor and her husband, Rory, Kristan Adams and her husband, Ron, Tim Joyner, Jennifer Farina and her husband, Jonathan, Kathleen Overbeck and Leo, and John Overbeck. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Gavin and Jillian Burns, Evan and Cian O' Connor, and Amelia Adams. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Overbeck McGavin and her children, Diane Splendorio and her husband, Dominick, & Jim McGavin. He is also survived by Regina Sullivan with whom he enjoyed time in both Lagrangeville and Englewood, Florida. He was very fond of his many nieces and nephews and has life-long friends in both New York and Florida. John retired from New York City Department of Buildings and then after moving to Fishkill worked as Operations manager at the Dutchess Mall. He was very active in the Fishkill community serving as a deputy Mayor and Police Commissioner and on the Fishkill Fire Department. In addition to the American Legion, he was also an active member of the VFW, Moose, Eagles and Elks. Calling hours will be held Sunday, February 22, from 2 - 6 pm at the Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 1028 Main Street Fishkill, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 23, at 10am at St. Joseph's Church in Millbrook, followed by a burial at Fishkill Rural Cemetery. John's family wishes to thank Drs. Lobo and Tobin and the staff of Vassar Brothers Hospital. They also ask that in lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a veterans organization of your choice. John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend.

Aniello N. Rufino
EAST FISHKILL - Aniello N. Rufino, 65, a resident of Hillside Lake for 15 years and formerly of the Bronx, died on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Westchester County Medical Center. Born in the Bronx on February 13, 1944, he was the son of Frank and Philomena Dellaquila Rufino. He was employed as a sanitation worker for the City of New York for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1993. Lou was a parishioner of St. Columba Church, Hopewell Junction. He enjoyed raising pigeons and collecting old bottles and loved the oldies. On April 2, 1990 in the Bronx, Lou married Debra Witte who survives at home. He is also survived by his sons, Jeremy and Rocco Rufino of Hillside Lake; his twin sister, Anna Consalvo; his brothers, Anthony and Frank Rufino; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Rocco and Ferdinando "Fred" Rufino. As per Lou's request, there will be no calling hours. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
