Ella C. Moran
POUGHKEEPSIE - Ella C. Moran, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Wednesday, December 1, 2010. She was 93. Daughter of the late Harvey and Lucy Embree Craig, she was born April 26, 1917 in Modena. She was proud to have descended from Hendrick Schoonmaker and his wife, Sarah Sutton who first came to the New World in 1624. On July 25, 1941 in New Paltz, she married Patrick A. Moran. Mr. Moran preceded her in death on April 30, 1988. Together with her husband, Pat, they owned and operated Wilbert Burial Vault in Hyde Park. She was a former active parishioner of St. Peter's Church. She converted to Catholicism and was honored to make her sacraments with her children, Ron and Shirley. In her younger years, Ella enjoyed ice skating and has many memories of skating on the old skating pond. She also enjoyed dancing, was an avid bowler and loved to work on crossword puzzles. Survivors include her children, Ronald E. Moran and his wife Mary Sutton of Poughkeepsie and Shirley A. McGrogan of Poughkeepsie; her grandchildren, Bridget Gorey and her husband, Frank, Brian Moran and his wife, Sherry, Timothy McGrogan and his wife, Nicole and Theresa Mooney and her husband, Michael; her great grandchildren, Patrick, Riley, Connor and Ryan Gorey, Kaleigh and Abbey Moran, Nicole McGrogan, Owen Mooney and Jacob McGrogan; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Tracy Craig, Merritt Craig, Anna Mae Phillips, Harold Craig, Kenneth Craig, Milford Craig, Goldie Roosa and Curtis Craig and her son-in-law, John R. McGrogan. Family will receive friends on Friday, December 3, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY, 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Saturday, December 4 at St. Martin de Porres Church, Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow Union Cemetery, Hyde Park. Memorial donations may be made in Ella's name to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Rd, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or Hospice, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Esther A. Pepper
FISHKILL - Esther A. Pepper, of Fishkill, passed away on November 30, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 89. Born on February 13, 1921 in Denmark to the late Arthur and Laura Rose. She was the retired owner of Babalynn Kennels in Wappingers Falls. She is survived by her loving daughter Linda Ryan and her husband Richard, a brother Hogar Rose and his wife Eleanor, Cherished grandchildren Kim Ryan, Scott Ryan and Jennifer Jo Stevens. She is also survived by her cats Molly and Lucky. She was predeceased by her husband Franklin Pepper, her daughter Barbara Stevens, and her brothers Carl and Vego Rose. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday December 3, 2010 at 12pm at Fishkill Rural Cemetery. Interment to follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers pleas make donations in Ester's name to Mid Hudson Animal Aid/Essie Dabrusin Cat Sanctuary 54 Simmons Lane, Beacon, NY 12508.

William L. Ramsey, Jr.
SPOKANE, WA - William L. Ramsey, Jr., age 75, of Spokane, Washington, died Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at home in Spokane. Mr. Ramsey was born October 17, 1935 in Port Chester, NY. He was the son of the late William and Margaret (Conway) Ramsey Sr. He had lived in Spokane for over 30 years and grew up in Dover Plains, NY. He served in the U. S. Navy, during the Korean War as a Medic. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was self employed as a Painter. He loved his cats, being outdoors and taking walks through the woods. On January 26, 1958 he married Frances W. Owens at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe, NY. His wife predeceased him on July 28, 2010. He is survived by his four daughters, Margaret Ramsey of Poughkeepsie, Elizabeth (Nick) Cuomo of Poughkeepsie, Charlotte Ramsey of Beacon, NY and Maureen (Robert) Hilts of Wilmington, NC. Also his three sons, William (Kim) of Putnam Valley, Kevin of Yonkers, NY and Michael (Raecine) of Wilmington, NC., and fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-laws. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Margie Banker. Calling hours will be held on Friday, 12/3/10, from 9:00 to 10:00am, at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am in the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.

James Carlton Richmond
GREAT BARRINGTON, MA - James Carlton Richmond, 73, formerly of Tupper Lake, New York, died peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2010 after a long illness at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home in Great Barrington, MA. James was born October 9, 1937 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in France in 1954. He worked for many years as a painter and electrician until his retirement. After retirement he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He would count the days until the next season began, enjoying his time hunting and fishing with family and friends. James is survived by his sister Joan and her husband Dick Thompson of Poughkeepsie, NY, a brother Bill Richmond of Watervliet, NY, sons James, Jr. & wife Jackie Richmond; Bryan & companion Melissa of Tupper Lake, NY and Allen of PA, also many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his father Vernon Richmond, his mother Dorothy Gunn, a brother Vernon, Jr. (Buddy) Richmond, a son Wayne and his daughter Cindy Patterson. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the James Carlton Richmond Memorial Fund through Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230, who is caring for the arrangements.

Alberta R. Kennedy Shea
POUGHKEEPSIE - Alberta R. Kennedy Shea, 90, a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Mrs. Shea worked at Fargo Manufacturing in Poughkeepsie for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the Fargo "Old Timers Club." Born in Staatsburg on April 19, 1920, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Emily Delaney Osterhoudt. She was a graduate of the former Staatsburg Union Free School. On July 2, 1939 in Pleasant Plains Church in Staatsburg, she married her first husband, Donald Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy predeceased her on December 31, 1951. On August 20, 1966 in St. Paul's Church in Staatsburg, she married her second husband, Joseph Shea. Mr. Shea predeceased her June 8, 1993. She is survived by her five children, Karolyn Shaffer of Hyde Park, Aaron B. Kennedy and wife, Kathy, of Milton, VT, Eugene E. Kennedy of Rollinsville, CO, George E. Kennedy of Hyde Park, and Donald J. Kennedy Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; nine siblings, Richard Osterhoudt and wife, Beverly, Katrina Howley, Irving Osterhoudt and wife, Margaret, Ralph Osterhoudt, Eleanor Burns, Wallace Osterhoudt and wife, Mary Jane, Rose Hanaburgh and husband, Orson, Jean Farrier and husband, Donald, Janet Nowall and husband, Wilbur, and many, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her first and second husbands, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Hiram and Vincent Osterhoudt; granddaughter, Susan M. Kilmer; and son-in-law, Alfred F. Shaffer Sr. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm, Saturday, December 4th at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family plot in Pleasant Plains Cemetery, Town of Clinton. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Brian Ignatius Stewart
WAPPINGERS FALLS - Brian Ignatius Stewart, of Wappingers Falls, died on November 29, 2010. Brian was born on September 14, 1962 in Peekskill, NY to Thomas and Jennie (Bianco) Stewart. He worked for Metro North Railroad for 25 years. He served in the US Marine Corps. He is survived by his sisters Kathleen, Lisa, Jennifer, brothers Thomas "Tim" and Dana, aunts, Teresa Sabatino and Theresa Abrams, uncle Carl and Betty Stewart survive, as do many cousins. Dear friends, John and Mary Ellen Brockhausen, Jeff Skinner, James Peck, Stephanie Nichols and families. Many nieces and nephews survive, Patrick Harbolic, Justin Stewart, Sophia Arcese (FL), Brandon Stewart (FL), Lauren Martinez, Sabrina Stewart, Emily, Nathan, Natalie Stewart (FL), Christy, John Jr. and Jennifer Brockhausen, Ryan, Tyler, and Shelby Skinner, who loved their funny and generous uncle Brian. Reposing Today from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM at the Cortlandt Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Peekskill. Interment to follow at the Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Westchester Chapter, 1311 Mamaroneck Avenue, Suite 130, White Plains, New York 10605.

Dale Virginia Herrick
PHILADELPHIA, PA - Dale Virginia Herrick, 57, of Philadelphia, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, while kayaking on the Schuylkill River in PA. She was born May 17, 1951 in Poughkeepsie, NY, to Winfred and Margaret Veach Herrick. Natives of northern Dutchess County, NY, the family moved to LaGrangeville, NY, in 1958, where Dale grew up and attended area schools. Dale was graduated from Arlington High School, Dutchess County Community College and SUNY at Plattsburgh. She received a MS-Ed. at University of Southern Maine, in Portland, and an MSW degree from Bryn Mawr College in PA. She worked as a Clinical Therapist in the city of Philadelphia for many years. Dale was a dedicated member of the Philadelphia Canoe Club and was a certified instructor of kayaking and white-water canoeing. Paddling the rapids was her passion for the past 20 years. Although she lived and worked in Philadelphia, she was always a country girl at heart, and enjoyed camping, hiking and water sports. She is survived by her parents, and cousins, Reginald Coon of Stanfordville; Roberta Bloomer of Red Hook; Linda Kannal of Nevada; Valerie Kilmer and Knick Staley of Rhinebeck; Jan White of Poplar Bluffs, MO; Elizabeth Mastrocinque of Hyde Park; NY; Douglas Macfarlane of Arizona; Ian Macfarlane of Florida and William Veach of Colorado. There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Please omit flowers. The John P. Donohue Funeral Home, Upper Darby, PA, is caring for Dale.
