Regina Katherine Long
POUGHKEEPSIE - "In the lilt of Irish laughter, you can hear the angels sing" Regina Katherine Long 94 entered into eternal rest on June 30, 2008. Regina was born on March 6, 1914 the daughter of the late Bridget and William Ringwood and was a life long Poughkeepsie resident. Regina enjoyed her wonderful family, the New York Yankees, the Boston Celtics, watching Jeopardy and the Wheel of Fortune. Ice Cream was her favorite sweet treat and she enjoyed it everyday. We all loved Regina "Ringy" dearly, but she always seemed to love us even more: Daughter and Son in-law Lynne and Allyn Hammel, Son and Daughter in-law Leonard and Patricia Long, Daughter in-law Mary Alice Long wife of the late Paul Long Jr. Regina would never forget any of her grandchildren or great-grandchildren, whom she cherished: Kurt Hammel, Kelly and Michael Cuzzupoli, Kristen Long, Paul and Sarah Long, Allison Long, Jesse Long, fiancé Ann Gough and Kathryn Baker. Natalie and Emma Cuzzupoli were the greatest joy, her special great-granddaughters. Regina was predeceased by her husband Paul Sr., her loving sons Paul Jr., (2003) and William (2003), and her "special" sweet daughter, Carol Ann (1987). The First Saturday Club held a special place in Mom's heart. Regina was a member of St. Martin de Porres Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 10:00am. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 from 5:00 8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. Contributions may be made to The First Saturday Handicap Club, 14 Bain Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. The extraordinary care and support provided to Mom by the entire family and by the caregivers, Althea, Lena, Maureen and Winsome and Maggie and the staff at The Pines of Poughkeepsie, will forever be remembered and has Mom has taught us, we say Thank You. Edward J. Powers
WAPPINGERS FALLS - Edward J. Powers, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls and formerly of Yonkers, entered into rest Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Lutheran Care Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 77. Son of the late James J. and Margaret P. Connolly Powers, he was born December 10, 1930 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Edward proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1952. On January 18, 1953 at Holy Rosary Church in Yonkers, he married the love of his life Micki Carr. Mrs. Powers preceded him in death on October 12, 2001 and he has now gone on to join her. Edward was a Police Officer with the Yonkers Police Department. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant in July 1991. He was a member of the Westchester Emerald Society Pipes and Drum Band. Edward was an avid bowler and enjoyed the time he spent on various leagues at Fishkill Bowl and Holiday Bowl as well as the many friends he made over the years. He also enjoyed traveling and camping. Survivors include his children, Linda Powers-Schmidt and her husband, William of Wappingers Falls and Edward M. Powers and his wife, Patricia of Stormville; three grandchildren, Kevin Schmidt and Skylar and Andalee Powers and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, James Robert Powers. Family will receive their friends on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 from 2 to 4 And 7 to 9 pm at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 3 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9, Fishkill. The family would like to offer their special thanks to the staff at Avalon Assisted Living Center, Wappingers Falls, the Lutheran Care Center, Poughkeepsie and Hospice of Dutchess County. Casper A. (Cas) Scalzi
POUGHKEEPSIE - Casper A. (Cas) Scalzi, of Poughkeepsie, New York, died on June 27, 2008 at his home at the age of 78. Mr. Scalzi was an IBM retiree. He worked for the company for 42 years, most of it in the Poughkeepsie Laboratory, and he retired as a Senior Technical Staff Member. Mr. Scalzi is credited with 34 issued U.S. patents and was honored with two IBM corporate awards for playing key technical roles in the development of Enterprise Systems Architecture ( access registers) and PR/SM (logical portioning of main frame computer systems). Additionally, he received an IBM outstanding patent award for the basic access register patent. Born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Cas was a graduate of Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport and received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree in 1952 form Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT following graduation and before joining IBM, he served two years in the U.S. Army at the Signal School, then located at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. He was honorably discharged as a corporal. Mr. Scalzi was an accomplished duplicate bridge player and had attained Gold Life Master status. He was a frequent supporter of local clubs and nearby regional tournaments. Cas was a past president of the Duchess County Bridge Association and for many years, he was the business manager of the Poughkeepsie YMCA Bridge Club. As a frequent traveler, he visited all inhabited continents. A lover of fine art, Cas enjoyed visiting art galleries and had an extensive collection for his own enjoyment. In addition to his late parents Casper F. Scalzi and Gizella Kollar Scalzi, he was also predeceased by his sister, Joan DiPronio and brothers-in-law, Frank DiPronio Jr. and Frank Twiss. He is survived by his sister, Arlene Twiss, nieces, Christine Hare and her husband, Gary, Jill Cullen and her husband, John, and a nephew, Nicholas DiPronio and his wife, Chantel, as well as six grand nieces and one grand nephew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 10:00 am at the Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Ave, Stratford, CT. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford, CT. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 from 4 to 8 pm at the Dennis & D'Arcy Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford, CT. Mr. Scalzi established a scholarship fund at Fairfield University to provide financial aid to students of Mathematics or Computer Sciences. The first award was made in 1999. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Casper A. Scalzi Scholarship Fund at Fairfield University, 1073 North Benson Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.

Vincent A. Spinella
WAPPINGERS FALLS - Vincent A. Spinella, 88, a resident of Dutchess County, NY, since 2002, formerly of Yonkers, NY, died at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, NY on Saturday, June 28, 2008. In 1995, he retired from Allied Van Lines in Bronxville, NY, where he had been employed for 25 years. He was a member of Christ the King Church in Yonkers. Born in Yonkers on January 7, 1920, he was the son of the late Antonio and Maria LoPicolo Spinella. In 1942, Vincent enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He received four battle stars for his service in Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland in addition to receiving the American Service, European-African-Middle Eastern Service, and Good Conduct Medals. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he served in the National Guard until 1953. On August 25, 1943, he married Gloria Ciufo at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Yonkers. Mrs. Spinella predeceased him on March 26, 1997. Survivors include three sons, Robert Spinella and his wife, Doreen of River Vale, NJ, Frank Spinella of Westfield, MA, and Richard Spinella and his wife, Ann Marie of Wappingers Falls; seven grandchildren, Kim, Cheryl and her husband, Dr. Michael Betsy, Suzanne, Angela, Marisa, Vincent, and Richard; three great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Michael, and Christian; a sister, Rose Fabrizio of Yonkers; and a brother, Austin Spinella of Peekskill. Vincent was also predeceased by his grandson, Frank, brothers, Phillip, Russell, Charles, and Carmine, and his sister, Anna. Funeral services and military honors followed by entombment will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1 at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 101 Mill Street, Putnam Valley, NY. Rev. John Heller will officiate. In memory of Vincent, memorial donations may be made in honor of his granddaughter, Kim to the Autism Society of America, 7910 Woodmont Ave., Suite 300, Bethesda, MD 20814-3067. Arrangements are under the direction of McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY.

Gwendolyn Hyacinthia Anderson
POUGHKEEPSIE - Gwendolyn Hyacinthia Anderson was born on October 26, 1943 in Trelawny, Jamaica, West Indies to the late Uriah Johnson and Elma Scarlett Johnson. She attended Walden Sea Elementary School. She was an Excellent Seamstress. She met and fell in love with the late John Cotterell and was married on December 12, 1979 and to this union produced five sons, Edwin, Anthony, Robert, Paul and Dave. She later remarried on September 27, 1989 to the late Thomas Anderson. She immigrated to the United States of America and worked for many years as a Nursing Assistant. She accepted the Lord and worshiped here at the Redeemed Christian Fellowship C.O.G.O.P. where she served as one of the church mothers. Gwendolyn was a very dedicated, caring, loving and faithful person. She always had a smile. She was known for her generosity and willingness to support her local church. She leaves to cherish her love and memories with Five sons, Edwin, Anthony, Robert, Paul and Dave Grandson, Kemar Cotterell whom she raised with numerous other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters, Julieth East, Lorris Edwards, Lurline Burke and Joanet Johnson; One brother, Neville Johnson; Sisters-in-law, Joyce Johnson and Yvonne Smith; Best friend, Sis. Eneava Foster. She will be sadly missed. Visitation will be Sunday, July 6, 2008, 5:00pm 3/8 8:00pm at Redeeming Christian Fellowship Church of God of Prophecy, 164 S. Cherry Street, Poughkeepsie, New York 12601. Services will begin Monday, July 7, 2008, 10:30am at Redeeming Christian Fellowship Church of God of Prophecy, 164 S. Cherry Street Poughkeepsie, New York 12601. Elder Kendrick McBeam will officiate. Interment will be at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, New York. Dorothy "Dottie" F. Edwards
BEACON - Dorothy "Dottie" F. Edwards died suddenly at Wingate at Beacon on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. She was 83. Born in Newburgh on March 22, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Jane Decker Cavanaugh Fame and the late John Fame. She was the widow of Taylor Edwards, who predeceased her in 1977. She was also predeceased by her loving friend, Nicholas Magure, who died in 2003. Dorothy retired from the State of New York, working for both the Unemployment and Motor Vehicle Departments. She also worked at Schoonmaker's Department Store. Survivors include many nieces and nephews, including Linda Fame Cavanaugh and Jane Bock Miller, both of Newburgh, who spent many precious hours with her in her final hours. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marian Fame Becker, Jean Cavanaugh Bock, Helen Cavanaugh O'Rourke Pascoe, and Florence Cavanaugh Sherman and her brothers, John "Jack" Fame and Joseph Fame. The family would like to acknowledge Linda Pinkhardt for her loyal devotion and friendship to Dottie for the last several years. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 2, 2007, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, July 3, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 31 Willow Street, Beacon. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Windsor Highway, New Windsor, NY.

Nicholas L. (Nick) Formichelli
HUDSON - Nicholas L. (Nick) Formichelli, of Hudson, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at the Fireman's Home in Hudson. He was 92. Born in Manhattan on Jan. 31, 1916, he was the son of the late Michael and Michellene Palantino Formichelli. Nick was a World War II Veteran serving with the U.S. Army as a Machine Gunner in the European Theatre and Germany. He was a repairman for the former Atlas Cement Co. in Hudson for over 40 years until his retirement. He was a volunteer fireman for H.W. Rogers Hose Co. #2 in Hudson; member of St. Rocco's Church in Beacon; Columbia County Sons and Daughters of Italy in Hudson; and a member of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Survivors include his wife, Conchetta "Ann" Firenze Formichelli of Hudson; four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Jane Formichelli of Hudson; Joseph and Kelly Formichelli of Laguna Niguel, CA; Nicholas Formichelli of Clintondale, NY; Anthony and Janet Formichelli of Poughkeepsie; a sister, Rose Berardinelli of Newburgh; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers, Anthony, Cosmo, Augustine, Michael and John Melfe, a grandson, Michael Formichelli Jr. and a daughter-in-law, Camille Formichelli. Calling hours will be Thursday, July 3 from 4-7 p.m., at Valenti and Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Dr., Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, July 5, 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church, 429 E. Allen St., Hudson, with Rev. Winston Bath officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery.
