Robert MacMorran
MILLBROOK - Robert S. MacMorran, 89, a longtime resident of Millbrook, died Thursday, July 3, 2008 at The Pines in Poughkeepsie. Mr. MacMorran had been employed as an electrician for Cotte Electric in Pleasant Valley for many years before retiring. Born in Newburgh on April 23, 1919, he was the son of Thomas and Anne Smith MacMorran. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during WW-II. On May 4, 1948 Robert married Mildred Allen. Mrs. MacMorran predeceased him on November 9, 1998. He is survived by his son and daughter in law, William and Donna MacMorran of Pleasant Valley; his 5 grandchildren; sister, Alisson Douglas of Cornwall, NY.; sister in law, Judy MacMorran of Flower Mound, TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Alan MacMorran and a sister, Mary Holt. Visitation will be Monday 11am - 1 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. Funeral services will be at 1 pm from the funeral home with interment to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Millbrook. Memorial donations may be made in Robert's memory to Hospice of Dutchess County.

Albina C. O'Leary
BEACON - Albina C. "Sally" O'Leary, a lifelong Beacon resident and recently of Rochester, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at St. Ann's Nursing Home, Rochester, NY. She was 91. Born in Beacon on January 17, 1917, she was the daughter of Condeloro and Philomena Fredricks Ferrone. She was married to Daniel A. O'Leary, who preceded her in death on December 28, 1971. Mrs. O'Leary was employed by IBM, East Fishkill. She was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon. She is survived by her children, Margaret Henderson and her husband, Marc, Rochester, James O'Leary and his wife, Marilyn, Ulster Park, Danielle O'Leary, Beacon, and Patricia Stacklin and her husband, Alan, Naperville, IL; five grandchildren, Erica and Kathryn Henderson, Daniel O'Leary, and Adam and Kyle Stacklin, a great grandson, Justus Farrell, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. O'Leary is predeceased by a son, Daniel P. O'Leary. The family will receive their friends on Monday, July 7, 2008 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, July 8, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 Willow Street, Beacon. Interment will follow in St. Joachim's Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon. Donations in memory of Mrs. O'Leary may be made to Lifetime Care Hospice, 3111 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY 14623-2905.

Barbara A. Oneto
CITY OF POUGHKEEPSIE - Barbara A. Oneto, 65, of City of Poughkeepsie, died July 4, 2008 at home. A lifetime resident of Poughkeepsie, she was a former waitress for Briar Patch and Ferucci's Luncheonette in Poughkeepsie. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Barbara loved music and wrote many songs. She also enjoyed singing and writing and cared for her disabled husband for many years. Born Jan. 31, 1943 in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the daughter of Frank Pizzarelli and Cecelia Malagrino. She attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School and was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. On Nov. 27, 1965 in Poughkeepsie, she married Joseph F. Oneto. He predeceased her on Nov. 4, 2006. Survivors include two sons, Michael A. Oneto and wife, Melanie of Marlboro, NY, Joel T. Oneto and wife, Amy of Newburgh, NY; a brother, Frank Pizzarelli of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Michael J. Oneto, Jason Thomas Oneto and Kaylee Briana Oneto; three brothers-in-law, Anthony, William and Frank Oneto; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. There are no calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 218 Mill St., Poughkeepsie, NY.

Sergeant Mark C. Palmateer
WAPPINGERS FALLS - Sergeant Mark C. Palmateer of Wappingers Falls was killed in action on June 26, 2008 in the Logar Province of Afghanistan. He was 38. Son of Charles E. Palmateer and the late Marjorie E. Loop Palmateer, he was born on October 21, 1969 in Poughkeepsie. Mark joined the Army National Guard in 2003, fulfilling his felt duty to serve his country. During his service, he was previously assigned to Company C, 1st of the 69th Infantry. On his recent tour, he fought for his country with Troop B, 2nd of the 101st Calvary as a rifleman. Before he joined the service, Mark worked for Dunmore Corp. in Brewster for many years; he considered his fellow employees his second family. A family statement reads, "Mark "Loopi" was a person that all kids knew as "Uncle Mark" and all adults knew as a friend. He was always the life of the party, especially with children, and always knew how to bring a smile to your face. He would do anything for anyone and always went above and beyond as a friend and family member, especially a father. His relationship with his daughter was one of a kind that even distance could not come between them; he was always there when needed." In addition to his father, Charles of Wappingers Falls, he is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Palmateer of North Creek; his sisters, Cathy Roule and her husband, Robert of Denham Springs, LA, Sue Spinner and her husband, Dean of Altona, Cindy Sumner and her husband, Kenny of Chelsea, and Margie Vail and her husband, Mike of Cortland; his brothers, Charles Palmateer and his friend, Wendy of Loraine, OH, Gary Palmateer and his wife, Lora of Highland, Christopher Palmateer and his wife, Becky of Warrensburg, and Michael Palmateer and his fiancé, Cheryl of Glens Falls; his step-mother, Jane Palmateer of Wappingers Falls and her children; his girlfriend, Tamara Martinez of Kingston; goddaughter, Nicole Meybohm of Poughkeepsie; godson, Brandon Palmateer of Highland; friend, Marci Meybohm and her husband, Matt of Poughkeepsie; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and extended family. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, July 10, 2008 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. Additional parking with shuttle service will be available during visitation at Zion Episcopal Church, Satterlee Place in Wappingers Falls. A graveside service with full military honors will take place on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 12 noon at New Hurley Cemetery, Route 208 and New Hurley Road in Plattekill; interment will follow in the family plot. J. Peter Phillips
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - John Peter Phillips, of Farmington Ave., passed away Thursday evening (July 3, 2008) at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA., surrounded by his loving family. On May 19, 2008, he underwent successful bone marrow transplant, donated by his sister Carol, at the Dana Farber Cancer Center. He was 55. Born on June 19, 1953 in Saratoga Springs, NY, he was a son of the late William A. and Marion R. (Tompkins) Phillips. A 1971 graduate of the former St. Peter's Academy on Broadway, he had participated in J.V. and varsity basketball and football. Pete was also a 1973 graduate of Delhi Community College. He worked at Skidmore College and formerly served as manager at the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club and Queensbury Country Club. He was also employed as a claims adjuster for the National Grange Mutual Insurance Company from 1979 to 1991. Pete was always content to enjoy the great outdoors, clear night skies and the beauty of his home flower gardens each year. He was a disgruntled snow shoveler. A member of Saratoga Springs I.A.T.S.E. Local 592, he worked as a stagehand at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, operating the spotlight during many major performances, including the Jazz Festival, New York City Ballet and other razzledazzle events. He also worked for NYSTI and numerous entertainment venues in the Albany, Troy, Schenectady and Glens Falls area. On behalf of his union brothers and sisters, he was proud each Christmas season to assist in purchasing gifts and items for area needy families during the holidays. An enthusiastic fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, he was especially gratified that the Giants won another Super Bowl in this particular year of his life. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, William F. Phillips, who passed away on April 15, 1995. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Cassandra (Robert) Kanthak of Poughkeepsie, Danielle (William) Martino of Hyde Park and Graig (Anita) Phillips of Columbia, PA; his companion, caregiver and best friend, Dorene (Massey) Couch and her son, Matthew Couch, both of Saratoga Springs; five grandchildren, Brittany and Briana Kanthak, Lexi, Alex and Will Phillips; two sisters and brothers-in-law, MaryLynn and John P. Cimon of Valatie, NY and Carol and Paul Magrath of Melvin Village, NH; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Michele Phillips of Saratoga Springs and Michael and Maureen Phillips of Wilton; his former wife with whom he remained friends, Debra (Martin) Phillips of Poughkeepsie; two aunts, Mary Phillips Murray and Patsy Tompkins, both of Saratoga Springs; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. Relatives and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8pm Monday at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Tuesday (July 8, 2008) at the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway. Interment will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Knights of Columbus Home, 50 Pine Road at Washinton Street, following committal services. Memorials may be made in Peter's name to Catholic Charities, 142 Regent Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Edward L. Bruder
DOVER PLAINS, NY - Edward L. Bruder, 97, a 31-year resident of Dover Plains formerly of Ridgewood, Queens, died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at The Kent in Kent, CT. Mr. Bruder worked as a fueler for Allied Fueling at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York retiring in 1976. He was born March 25, 1911 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Erwin and Pauline Gebhert Bruder. On September 2, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY, he married Margaret J. Dupier who survives in Kent, CT. He was a member of the DoverWingdale Senior Citizens, St. Matthias Holy Name Society in Ridgewood Queens and the Nocturnal Adoration Society. He was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains and an active member of the church choir. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sister Regine Marie Bruder SSND of Wilton, CT; four sons, Edward J. Bruder and his wife, Clara of Macungie, PA, Robert J. Bruder of Wilton, CT, Thomas W. Bruder and his wife, Patricia of Farmingdale, NY and James M. Bruder and his wife, Candace, of Massapequa, NY; one sister, Marian Schmitt of Baldwinsville, NY; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, two sisters and one great grandchild. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Mill St., Dover Plains, NY. Angelina Cioffi
TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE - Angelina Cioffi, 94, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Hudson Valley Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center in Highland, after a long illness. Angelina was born on October 4, 1913 to Maria Lepore and Nicola Peluso in Poughkeepsie. She attended local schools. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Cioffi. She was predeceased by her brother, John Peluse and her sister, Anna Bernazza; as well as her first husband, Angelo DiDonato. Angelina spent a good portion of her life in Millbrook, NY living on Rally Farms. She found great pleasure in preparing the wild game dinners for the members of the Clove Valley Hunt Club where she worked for many years. In addition to the Hunt Club, she also took great pride in organizing the food and beverages for many private parties in the Millbrook area. In addition to her husband, and step-daughters, Sharon Miller and Yolanda Sokol, she is survived by her nieces, Anne Marie Haas of Clifton Park, NY; Charlene Mitchell of Memphis, TN; nephews, Bob Peluse of Arlington, TX; Jack Peluse of Poughkeepsie; Nick Peluse of Glen Rock, NJ and Leonard Bernazza of Marietta, GA. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 218 Mill St., Poughkeepsie. Wheelchair accessibility is located in the rear of the funeral home off Vassar Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 9:45 a.m. at the Church of Holy Trinity, 775 Main St., Poughkeepsie. Entombment will follow in the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
