Doris I. Palmer Clarke
POUGHKEEPSIE - Doris I. Palmer Clarke, 76, a lifetime resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away at Victory Lake Nursing Home on Sunday, July 6, 2008. Doris was born January 3, 1932 in Poughkeepsie, NY to the late Albert G. Dewey and Ida Johnson. Doris worked for the Hudson River State Hospital for over 35 years, retiring in 1989. She was a proud member of the Smith Metropolitan AME Zion Church, where she was the Treasurer for the Stewardess Board, a member of the Missionary Society and a member of the Kitchen Committee. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Ferdinand W. Clarke on May 21, 2008 and her brother, Richard Dewey. She is survived by numerous cousins and friends. A celebration of her life will be Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Smith Metropolitan AME Zion Church, 124 Smith St., Poughkeepsie, with visitation from 10-11am followed by funeral services beginning at 11am. Reverend Dwight Bolton will be officiating. Funeral arrangements had been entrusted with care to John H. Darrow of the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, Inc., 39 So. Hamilton St., Poughkeepsie, NY.

Stanley Cornell
DANDRIDGE, TN - Stanley Walter "Pete" Cornell, age 82, of Dandridge, TN, passed away Monday, July 1, 2008. Born in Hughsonville, NY, he graduated from Wappingers Falls High School and the Roosevelt Technical School for Aeronautics. At a young age, he served in World War II as part of the greatest generation, where he served in the South Pacific Theatre in the U. S. Navy and received several commendations for bravery and service. He was a devoted husband and father who married and raised their family in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he was employed by International Business Machines as a technology engineer for 39 years. Always active in his community, he was a Boy Scout troop leader for Troop 56 of Poughkeepsie, served on the Eagle Scout Board, earned the Silver Beaver Award, and was Wood Badge Trainer for the adult scout leaders. He served as field director for the National Campers and Hikers Association and volunteered as the Back Country Coordinator at the Sugarlands of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Following his retirement, he and his wife retired to Olga, FL for ten years and later on to Dandridge, TN, where he was a member of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church and was active with the Habitat for Humanity. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat Cornell; son, Mark D. (Deborah) Cornell; and daughter, Carrie Beth (Thomas Patrick, Jr.) Buzzelli; grandchildren, Matthew, Jonathan, Sarah, Shawna and Thomas III; sister-in-law, Beverly Cadmus; several loved nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, "Chance." A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2008 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church with Reverend Mark Knisley officiating. A reception to greet family and friends will be held following the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Piano Restoration Fund, 812 Hopewell Street, Dandridge, TN 37725. John Joseph Ek
SANTA CLARA, CA - John Joseph Ek (Big John) passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2008 in Santa Clara, CA . Born on January 23, 1943 in Poughkeepsie, New York, he was 65 years old and had lived in Campbell for the past 35 years. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1961 and attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. John moved to San Francisco in 1966 when his friend Monte Stickles played for the 49ers. He was a court reporter for Santa Clara County Municipal and Superior Courts for 28 years until his retirement in 1999. He is survived by his children, Betsy Ek, Joanne (Dave) Bradley, Bill Ek and Marianne Zilliox and by the mother of his children, Ruby Ek. He is also survived by his sister Marion of Spring Hill, Florida, and several nieces and nephews, and some very dear friends from Poughkeepsie. John was a member of the Saturday Nite Live Group of Alcoholics Anonymous and was sober for 20 years. He was a long time 49er fan and season ticket holder for many years. Family and friends are invited to attend viewing on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 6pm and rosary at 7pm at Oak Hill Funeral Home's Drawing Room Chapel, 300 Curtner Avenue, San Jose, CA 95125. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 10am at St. Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Church, 1522 McCoy Avenue, San Jose, CA 95130 . Graveside service to follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park .

Catherine D. Fitzgerald
FISHKILL - Catherine D. Fitzgerald, 85, formerly of Mt. Kisco, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. Catherine was born in Yonkers, NY on September 10, 1923 to the late Daniel and Catherine Sullivan Trehey. On May 13, 1943, she married William J. Fitzgerald, who predeceased her on August 12, 2002. Catherine had worked for Readers' Digest, Pleasantville, NY, where she worked her way up to supervisor. Catherine is survived by her children: Kathleen Cotroneo of Hopewell Junction; William Fitzgerald and his wife Carol of Columbus, OH; Susan Dobransky and her husband William of Yonkers, NY; Denise Hunt and her husband Thomas of Kinderhook, NY; Sharon Ritchie and her husband Joseph of Hopewell Junction. Catherine is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, two sisters. Catherine will be greatly missed by one and all, for being a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 8th from 7-9 pm at the Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 1028 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Catherine, 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 9th at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, Fishkill, followed by entombment in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Catherine to a charity of your choice.

Anne Milano
Born: September 05, 1931
Died: November 02, 2015
Anne Milano, age 84, peacefully entered into eternal rest at the Milano Family homestead on Monday, November 2nd, surrounded by her loving children. Born September 5, 1931, Anne was predeceased by her beloved Grandfather, prominent New York Police Captain, Frederick Wohlfarth, her parents James and Florence Murtha, and her loving husband Martin "Snooky" Milano. Anne was born in Kew Gardens, Queens, and enjoyed a successful career in Manhattan and Queens before retiring to dedicate her time to her family. Anne was a devote Christian and proud member of St Augustine Church in Highland. Anne took great interest in the welfare of animals and was a benefactor of the ASPCA. Anne was an avid fan and supporter of Highland sports. As a lifetime Yankee fan Anne counted among her fondest memories meeting Babe Ruth as a young girl and attending the final game of the 1996 World Series at Yankee Stadium. Anne lived her life everyday with strength, class, dignity, integrity, grace, and humbleness. She was a beautiful soul, amazing Wife, Mother, Friend and Human. She will truly be missed. She is survived by her children, Son, Martin of Newburgh, NY, and Daughter, Marianne of Highland, NY.
Calling hours are Friday November 6th 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 38 Main St. Highland, NY 12528.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 7th 9:30am at St. Augustine Roman Catholic church in Highland.
Burial will follow in Union Cemetery of Lloyd in Highland.

Maria Helena Hoag
MILLBROOK - Maria Helena Hoag of The Fountains at Millbrook, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at home. Helena was born on September 28, 1914 to the late Frederick B. and Susanna Kalis Scoralick. She attended Yonkers schools, and worked as a telephone operator in White Plains and Poughkeepsie. Helena was married on May 30, 1941 at the Hoag Homestead in Poughquag to the late George Hoag; who predeceased her on November 11, 2001. Helena was an avid gardener who often served as a resource to others and eagerly shared her extensive horticulture knowledge. She was a Charter Member of the Master Gardener Program sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension. She was also a member of the Dutchess County Garden Study Club. While with the Garden Study Club, Helena gave many gardening presentations to local residents. Helena had a strong sense of volunteerism and a longstanding commitment to her community. She was one of the original group of volunteer Master Gardeners who conducted workshops for local homemakers. While her husband served in World War II, Helena took his place on the Rural Mail Route. When the roads were snow-blocked, she delivered mail on horseback to the remote areas of the route. On several occasions, Helena brought groceries to local residents who were unable to get out. Helena was predeceased by five brothers, Albert, Frederick, Philip, William and Henry Scoralick. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Helena has made an anatomical gift of her body to Albany Medical College. Respecting her wishes, no services will be held.

Francis T. "Frankie" Hughes
HOLMES, NY - Francis T. "Frankie" Hughes, 19, a resident of Holmes, NY, passed away at his home, Friday, July 4, 2008. Born in Poughkeepsie on February 9, 1989, he was the son of Francis L. and Terilynn (Freeman) Hughes. Frankie attended Pawling Central High School, and graduated last year. He was attending Dutchess Community College and was a Pawling School employee. He was a member of the New York Sports Clubs in Carmel. He leaves behind his parents, two brothers, Braden and Bryan Bucchioni of Mahopac, NY, and many, many friends. Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, Wednesday, July 9th from 9:30 to 11:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John's Church, Pawling at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Pawling Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in memory of Frankie be made directly to the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY 12564 to help the family with the funeral expenses.
