Brian B. Batchelor
Born: March 21, 1948
Died: November 16, 2014
Brian B. Batchelor, 66, of Highland, NY passed away Sunday November 16th. Brian was born in Gardiner, MA on March 21, 1948 the son of the late Donald Grant Batchelor and Barbara Irene Jirkovsky. He worked locally for Pratts Lumber yard in Highland and as a truck driver delivering fuel for G n S fuel service. A lover of sports, he was a big Boston fan and supported all their teams. On October 15, 1988 he married Rose Marie Palmatier. Along with his wife, he is also survived by his daughter Roseann, her fiance Ronald Ackert, his 8 Grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many extended family. Brian was predeceased by his two sons Brian Batchelor and Barry Batchelor.
Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, November 19th from 5pm-7pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main Street, Highland, NY 12528. A Funeral service will take place at 6:30 pm during the calling hours. Burial will be private.

Betty James
TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE - Betty J. James, 75, a lifelong Town of Poughkeepsie resident, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born in Salt Point, NY on February 5, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen Gillette Cypher. On March 1, 1953 at St. Paul's Church in Poughkeepsie, she married her beloved husband, E. Lloyd James. Mr. James survives at home. Betty was employed for many years as a Nurse Assistant, starting at the Dutchess County Infirmary in Millbrook, NY. Later she worked at several nursing homes in Dutchess County concluding her care giving career at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie for seventeen years before her retirement in 1993. Her patients always asked "where is Betty" they all liked her so. In retirement, she again resumed the role of homemaker. In addition to her husband, survivors include daughter Deborah L. James of Hyde Park, NY, son William L. James of Poughkeepsie, daughter Cathy Zoellner of Poughkeepsie, 3 grandsons Brian S. James, Braydon J. Zoellner, Lydia M. Zoellner, 2 great grandchildren, Tyler Coons, Cody James, 2 brothers, Harold Cypher and his wife Rosa of Pleasant Valley, Wayne Cypher and his wife Jennifer of Salt Point, 3 sisters, Patricia Cypher of Poughkeepsie, June Cypher of Salt Point and Eleanor Spilbor of Raleigh, NC, pre-deceased by 3 brothers, Lavert, Irving and Charles Jr. Cypher, many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Wednesday 6-8PM at the Parmele Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10:00 AM at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Mausoleum, 342 South Ave., Poughkeepsie. Memorial contributions can be made in Betty's name to the Children's Home, 10 Children's Way Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or a charity of one's choice.

Fred Novak
BEACON - Fred H. Novak, a Beacon resident, died at his home in Beacon on Saturday, July 5, 2008. He was 82. Born in Passaic, NJ, he was the son of Alfred P. and Freda L. Kohler Novak. He married the former Anita Klein, who preceded him in death in 1990. He was a career soldier, serving during World War II and Korean Conflict and played in the United States Military Academy Band, West Point from 1954 until his retirement on September 1, 1968. He then attended and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a BA in Music Therapy. He later worked at Hudson River Psychiatric Center. He considered himself a professional musician and volunteered with several musical organizations. He played at the Vanderbilt Historic Site, Hyde Park, and several other venues. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Newburgh. He is survived by his two sons, Glenn Novak and his wife, Shelia, State of Florida, and Frederick Novak and his wife, Bronwyn, Red Hook; his two daughters, Karen Novak, Hyde Park, and Christine Novak, Palmer, MI; six grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Maria Mersinger, Beacon, and her son, Thomas. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Novak. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. A funeral service with Rev. Ernest A. Mossl of Christ Lutheran Church officiating will be 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9 at the funeral home. Interment will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, at West Point Cemetery with Rev. Mossl officiating. Donations in memory of Mr. Novak may be made to Hospice of Dutchess County, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Harold J. Oswald
PAWLING - Harold J. Oswald, 95, a long-time resident of Poughquag, NY, passed away at his home, Sunday, July 6, 2008. Born in NYC on December 12, 1912, he was the son of Henry C. and Amelia Blanche (Smith) Oswald. With his family he owned and operated the H.C. Oswald Supply Company in NYC. His father, Henry, bought property in Poughquag in 1928, creating OSCO Manor, the family retreat and homestead where the family has lived for many years. Mr. Oswald was a very active businessman in NYC before he moved to Poughquag. He married the former Annette Buchwald in NYC in 1937; she predeceases him. He is survived by two sons, Bruce Oswald and his wife Anne of Poughquag, NY and Brent Oswald and his wife Brigid of Novato CA.; and four grandchildren, Dawn of Martinez, CA, Kim of Lowden, IA, Claire of Novato, CA, and Jared of Poughquag, NY. Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY Thursday 79 PM and Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Friday evening at 8:30 PM. Burial will be private.

Francis Romanelli
BOWIE, MD - Francis Romanelli, 72, of Bowie, MD, died of Lymphoma on July 6, 2008 at home in Bowie, MD. Mr. Romanelli retired in 1991 from the Internal Revenue Service after a 28year career. He served as a field investigator in the IRS Newark, NJ and Washington, DC offices. He later became a tax law specialist and senior criminal investigation analyst in IRS headquarters in Washington, DC. Mr. Romanelli was born in 1936 in Beacon, NY, the son of the late Rose Soldiveria Romanelli and John Romanelli. He graduated from Beacon High School and from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford, NJ. He was a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Romanelli also served two years active duty with the U. S. Army. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Sacred Heart Council of the Knights of Columbus in Bowie. He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Mary Ellen Burke Romanelli, of Bowie, MD; a daughter, Beth R. Hickam, and her husband Jeffrey, of Bel Air, MD; and three grandchildren, Caroline, T. J., and Lindsey Hickam of Bel Air, MD; two sisters, Mary Collins of Beacon, NY and Dolores Lewis of Tulsa, OK; two brothers, Leonard Romanelli of Beacon, NY, and Vincent Romanelli of Tom's River, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Rose Ross and Ann Marie McCollum, and a brother, John Romanelli, predeceased him. Visitation will be at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy (Rt. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 for 2-4 and 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Chapel, 16501 Annapolis Rd., Bowie, MD on Thursday, July 10, 2008, 10:30am. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Hwy., Bowie, Md 21041.

Gerald R. Simek
DOVER PLAINS, NY - Gerald R. Simek, 69, a 13-year resident of Dover Plains, NY, formerly of New York City, died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. Mr. Simek was a self-employed general contractor in New York City. He was born November 5, 1938 in Queens, NY, the son of the late Gerald Simek, Sr. and Marie Lowe Simek. He was predeceased by his wife, Andrea Bell Simek in 2004. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines who served from 1950 to 1954. Mr. Simek is survived by a son, Gerald Simek, Jr. of Dover Plains, NY and two daughters, Virginia Simek of Dover Plains, NY and Yvonne Reckenwald of Danbury, CT; a brother, Donald Lawrence Simek of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Thursday, July 10, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY with funeral services at 8 p.m. with Rev. Daniel Groh officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Anna M. Minckler
Born: January 23, 1962
Died: November 14, 2014
Anna M. Minckler, 52, a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, entered into eternal rest on November 14, 2014. Anna was a Supervisor for the Vassar Warner Home in Poughkeepsie for 35 years. She was also a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie. Anna was the daughter of the late Antonio E. and Victoria E. Manfredi Vona. On August 16, 1987 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie she married Harris E. Minckler.
Mr. Minckler survives at home in Poughkeepsie. Additional survivors include her son; Christopher H. Minckler, her sisters; Rosa Vona, Angela Vona, Delia Carbone, her brother;Sebastiano Vona and his wife Rosa. Anna is also survived by her sister-in-laws Melody Vona, Lisa Minckler, Michelle Bell, brother-in-law, Floyd Minckler, mother-in-law Barbara Minckler and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was predeceased by her brother; Benito Vona
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday November 18, 11:00am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie. Entombment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery Mausoleum in Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Anna’s name. Arrangements are under the direction of the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 218 Mill St. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
