Katherine "Kay" Rikert
RHINEBECK Katherine "Kay" Rikert, 94, of Rhinebeck, NY, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY. Born January 25, 1914, in Hudson, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Pauline (Rosenthal) Harp, Sr. She married William A. Rikert on July 11, 1936 in Rhinebeck. He predeceased her on August 6, 2002. Katherine entered Northern Dutchess Training School for Practical Nurses in 1935 and, upon completion of her training, she began a 35 year career as a nurse at Northern Dutchess Hospital. Katherine also volunteered for many years at the Northern Dutchess Hospital Thrift Shop. Katherine was a lifelong member of the Third Lutheran Church in Rhinebeck. She is survived by her two sons and their wives: John W. & Lorraine Rikert of Rhinebeck, and Dale T. & Julie Rikert of Red Hook, four grandchildren: Thomas Rikert of San Francisco, CA, Steven Rikert of Rhinebeck, Peter Zannis and his wife Mary of CT, Jennifer Rikert and her companion Paul Rembisz of Poughkeepsie, and a great grandson: Darren Rembisz of Poughkeepsie. A brother: John Harp, Jr. of Hudson, NY, a niece and nephews: Karen Kellerhouse, William and Brian Harp of Hudson, and John Harp, III of Albany, NY also survive her. A brother, Donald Harp, as well as two nephews and a niece; David Harp, David Traver, and Kathy Wolchak, predeceased her. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 12th, at Third Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 Livingston St., Rhinebeck. The Rev. Le Roy T. Ness will officiate. Burial will be at Rhinebeck Cemetery, Rhinebeck. Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Home, 91 E. Market St., Rhinebeck on Friday from 4 - 7 PM. Memorial donations may be made in Katherine's memory to the Third Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 Livingston St, Rhinebeck, NY 12572.

Charlotte P. Wilkins
TOWN OF LAGRANGE - Charlotte P. Wilkins, beloved wife and mother, died peacefully on July 7, 2008, at her home in LaGrangeville, NY. She was formerly from Belmont, MA. Charlotte was born December 16, 1913, and lived most of her life in the Boston, MA area. She is survived by her husband, Norman Wilkins, her three children: Marcia Grant and husband, Craig, of LaGrangeville, NY, Linda W. Saparoff and husband, Gerald, of Barton, VT, and Curtis P. Wilkins and wife, Ann, of Providence, RI – as well as seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, Herbert R. Wilkins, on July 20, 1976. Charlotte graduated from Tufts University in 1936, and was a long-time member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Belmont, MA. After living in the same house for fifty years, she moved to LaGrangeville with her husband, Norman, to live with her daughter, Marcia, six years ago. There are no calling hours, and interment will be private. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 6 So. Cross Rd, LaGrangeville. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Hospice Foundation, Inc., 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601; or Trinity UMC, 6 So. Cross Rd, LaGrangeville, NY 12540. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., Hopewell Junction, NY.

James Childs, Sr
Born: September 11, 1953
Died: September 02, 2015
James G. “Pop Pop” Childs, Sr., 61, of Highland, NY, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2015 at Wingate at Ulster after a long hard fight with Lou Gehrig's Disease(ALS). He was born September 11, 1953 in Springfield, VT, the son of the late Leighton Childs and Rachel Barrows.
Jim grew up in Vermont before moving to Highland in his High School years. He was a great athlete, in both baseball and basketball and made many lasting friendships that would span his lifetime. Jim worked as a purchasing agent for IBM before his retirement from there in the late 1990's. Later on he worked at Babies R Us in Poughkeepsie, NY.
He is survived by his loving children, Melissa Mandia(Joseph Bertero) of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, James Childs Jr.(Jill) of Highland, NY, and Joseph Childs of Florida, Grandchildren Samantha Mandia, Christopher Mandia. Melanie Childs, Danica Childs, and Bethany Childs. He also leaves behind his adoring sisters Janet Williams(Jim), Judy Anderson(Andy), his loving brothers Michael Childs(Lee), Thomas Childs(Linda), his sister-in-law Margorie Childs, brother-in-law Clay Williams and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. We would like to mention a special THANK YOU to his Great Aunt Rose Marie Batchelor, who spent many days with him in his last several months caring for him and building a bond with him, Aunt Rosie is an angel on earth. Jim was predeceased by his sisters Jean Williams, Joyce Savory, brothers Rodney Childs and Butch Childs. The family would like to also send out a special THANK YOU to all the special people at Wingate at Ulster for their loving care of our beloved Father and Pop Pop, especially Roseann “Rosella” Arciuolo whom Dad grew very fond of in his short time there.
Calling hours will be Friday, September 4th from 5pm-9pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 218 Mill Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Street level and wheelchair accessible entrance located off Vassar Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 5th 10 am at Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie NY followed by burial in Highland Cemetery, Highland, NY. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Jim's name to the fight against ALS would be appreciated.

Glen A. Avalear
POUGHKEEPSIE - Glen A. Avalear, 55, a lifelong area resident, died on Saturday, July 5, 2008 in Poughkeepsie. Mr. Avalear was a clerk at the Target Department Store in Poughkeepsie. Prior to Target, he worked in the office of Master Built Construction in Millbrook for several years. Glen was passionate about model rocketry, and was a member of the National Association of Rocketry for over 30 years. He also served as a Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) mentor. A longtime diabetic, he was a member of the "Pumper's Group", which met at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Rhinebeck on July 10, 1952, he was the son of the late Gary P. Avalear and Beatrice 'Bea' L. DuBois Avalear, who survives in Poughkeepsie. He was a 1970 graduate of F.D. Roosevelt High School, Hyde Park. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Toni Carl and husband, Bob, of Bailey, CO; an Aunt, Toni Avalear of Madison, OH; and several cousins. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Monday, July 14, 2008 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Rev. Eileen Freeman will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312

Jack F. Haupin
GERMANTOWN, NY – Jack F. Haupin, 52, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was born on September 24, 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of Doris Palmer of Cleveland, OH. Jack was the maintenance mechanic for the Rhinebeck Central Schools. He loved his motorcycle and playing on his computer. Enjoyed reading fiction books, and the Cleveland Indians Baseball Team. On April 26, 1991 in Clermont, NY he married Mary B. (Wolven) Haupin. She survives him at home. In addition to his mother and beloved wife Mary of Germantown, survivors include four sons, Joseph Spevik of Cleveland; Joshua Mack of East Durham, Luke Mack of Livingston, Daniel Mack of Germantown, a daughter, Vanessa Wilcox of Cleveland, NC; a brother, Edward Haupin of Cleveland, OH; two sisters, Marylou Slimak and Linda Bagley both of Cleveland, OH. Calling hours are Friday, July 11, from 3 to 6 pm, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 West Market St., Rhinebeck. Funeral service and burial are private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the American Heart Assoc. One Union St. #301 Robbinsville, NJ 08691.

Beatrice Ottie Henry
TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE - Beatrice Ottie Henry, aka "Bea- Bea", 72, a 49-year-resident of Town of Poughkeepsie, New York, died Monday, July 7, 2008 at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, Newburgh, New York. She was a retired secretary for IBM, Poughkeepsie, New York. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, Poughkeepsie. Born April 16, 1936 in Manhattan, New York, she was the daughter of Annie Anderson Payne and the late Alfred Payne, Sr. Survivors include her Loving and Devoted husband, Thomas MacDonald Henry, Sr. at home; Son, Thomas Mac Donald Henry, Jr. of Poughkeepsie; mother, Annie Anderson Payne of Fishkill, New York; Two granddaughters, Carlissa Henry of Phoenix, Arizona and Ashley Henry of Poughkeepsie; Brother, Alfred Payne, Jr. and wife Cassandra of Queens, New York; Brother and Sister-in-law, Jerry and Melissa Henry; Sister-in-law, Shirley Henry all of Poughkeepsie. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. She was predeceased by her father, Alfred Payne, Sr., father and mother-in-law, Garry Henry, Sr. and MaryEllen, Aunts, Ida, Lizzie, Catharine, Dorothy, Margaret, Ethel and Alice, Two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Henry and Loretta Roberts and Brother-in-law, Garry Henry, Jr. Visitation will be Monday, July 14, 2008 10:00am 3/8 11:00am at Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catherine Street, Poughkeepsie, New York. Service will begin 11:00am at the church. Reverend Jesse V. Bottoms, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Poughkeepsie, New York. Rhodes Funeral Homes, 43 Fairview Avenue, Poughkeepsie, New York 12601 entrusted with professional arrangements.

Geraldine G. Price
RHINEBECK - Geraldine G. Price, 80, of Rhinebeck, NY, joined her husband in heaven peacefully while at home on Thursday, July 10, 2008. A tap dancer, she co-owned and operated Jerry & Sally's Dancing School in Beacon, NY. She had also worked at the Electric Sock Company in Beacon. She was a member of Northern Dutchess Rod & Gun Club in Rhinebeck. Born June 24, 1928 in Beacon, she was the daughter of the late Stanton and Ethel (Gifford) Tompkins, Sr. On December 7, 1946, in St. Luke's Church, Beacon, she married Homer S. Price. Homer died on January 18, 2008. She is survived by one daughter, Cindi Eichorn of Rhinebeck, a son & daughter-in-law: Timothy & Shirley Price of Poughquag, NY, a brother: Stanton Tompkins, Jr. of Hudson, NY, four grandsons: Timothy Price, Jr. of Stormville, Timothy Sickler, Jeremy Price, and Jason Price all of Rhinebeck, a great grandson: Jeremy Price of Billings, NY, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no visiting hours. Memorial donations may be made in Geraldine's memory to the Hospice Foundation, Inc., 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 91 E. Market St., Rhinebeck, NY.
