Elisabeth Lopukhin
TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE - Elisabeth Lopukhin, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest, Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. She was 75. Born February 14, 1933 in Paris, France, her parents were Nikita and Sophie (a noted theological author and educator) Koulomzin, who predeceased her. Growing up in France, she survived World War II separated from her parents as a very young girl, as it was thought to be safer. Reunited after the war, the family emigrated to the United States in November 1948. Elisabeth was accepted on a scholarship to Connecticut College, New London, CT, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in French Literature in 1954. After graduating college, she was employed by the World Council of Churches. She married Michael Lopukhin on August 29, 1954. She then worked as a secretary at Air France. The majority of her working life was spent as a dedicated Social Worker at the Tolstoy Foundation Nursing Home in Valley Cottage, NY, where she impressed many with her advocacy for the elderly. Following her retirement in 1998 she served on the Board of Directors of Sts. Cosmas and Damian Nursing Home in Staten Island, NY. A deeply religious woman, Elisabeth was a parishioner at St. Gregory's Church in Wappingers Falls. She also attended services for many years at St. Vladimir's Seminary in Crestwood, NY, and St. Sergius of Radonezh Chapel, Lac Labelle, Canada. Most of all, however, she devoted herself to raising her four children, being an extraordinary grandmother of 5 grandchildren and being a partner in life with her husband Michael. Always living life to the fullest even in retirement, Elisabeth was a giving woman and always put the needs of others before her own. Elizabeth and her husband were very involved in the Russian Gift of Life, hosting many children in their home while they were recuperating from heart surgery. Elisabeth was an avid gardener, most recently directing a very patient contractor in the building of stone sculptures at her new home. She will always be remembered for her love of life and her delicious "way with food". She is survived by her husband, Michael, daughters Olga, Tatiana and Alexandra, son Andrei, three granddaughters and two grandsons. Family will receive their friends on Friday, July 25, 2008 at St. Gregory's Orthodox Church, 1500 Route 376, Wappingers Falls. The funeral service will be held at 7 pm on Friday at the church. A liturgy will be offered at 9:30 am at the church on Saturday, July 26. Interment will follow in Russian Convent Cemetery, Nanuet, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Gregory's Orthodox Church Building Fund, 1500 Rte. 376, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 or Religious Books for Russia, Inc., PO Box 160, Lagrangeville, NY 12540. Arrangements are under the direction of Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, New York.

Erik A. Lynge
WINGDALE - Master Craftsman Erik A. Lynge, passed away July 21, 2008, predeceased by his father John Edward Lynge on December 19, 2007, leaving behind his beloved mother Shirley and siblings Jan, Dean, Dawn, Christina, Lance, Lars and Stephanie. Mr. Lynge is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as his good friend and mentor Thomas Patterson. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Rt. 22, Dover Plains, NY.

William E. McLean
PAWLING - William E. McLean, 86, a resident of Pawling, since 1972, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Danbury Hospital, Danbury, CT. Born in Blackpool, British Columbia, Canada on April 29, 1922, he was the son of the late Dunbar H. and Eva (Benz) McLean. Mr. McLean was a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Before retiring in 1974, he had been an investment manager in NYC. Mr. McLean was a longtime member of the Pawling Rotary Club and Christ Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary E. "Molly" McLean; his son, Douglas McLean of Sunnyvale, CA; two daughters, Shelagh McLean of Sherman, CT and Alison McLean of Berkley, CA; a brother and sister, John McLean and Mary McLean, both of Toronto, Canada; and his granddaughter, Dara Bloom-Gomez of Guadalajara, Mexico. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, July 26th at 2PM at Christ Church, Quaker Hill, Pawling, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Christ Church or the Community Resource and Service Center, Pawling, NY. Services under the direction of the Horn & Thomes Inc., Funeral Home, 83 E. Main St., Pawling.

Herbert W. Nestell
KINGSTON - Herbert W. Nestell, 82, a lifelong resident of Henry Street, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the Golden Hill Health Care Center. Born January 3, 1926 in Kingston, he was the son of the late Anna (Harris) and Charles W. Nestell. After attending Kingston Schools, he served in Company C, 354th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army in Central Europe from 1945 1946. He received the Army of Occupation Medal, EAME Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. On August 1, 1948, Mr. Nestell married Ann Crantz at Saint Joseph's Church in Kingston. In 1949, he opened Mid-Town Television Headquarters. In 1951 this business became Tel-Rad Company which he operated with his sons Charles and Walter as Tel-Rad Television Service. He retired in 1984. He was Past Commander of the Town of Esopus American Legion Post 1298, a current member of the American Legion Post 150, Kingston, the Joyce Shirick VFW Post 1386, the Kingston Maennerchor and Demenchor Chapter 2039, the Kingston AARP and the White Eagle. Survivors include, one daughter, Barbara Borchers of Hyde Park, two sons, Charles W. of Kingston and Walter C. Nestell of Lake Katrine, six grandchildren, dear friend and dancing partner, Verda Raskowski of Kingston and many cousins, nieces and nephews. His wife, Ann, died October 3, 1996. Two sisters, Drusilla Nestell and Gladys Taylor also died previously. A funeral service will be held Saturday 11:30 am at the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Smith Avenue Kingston, NY, Rev. Richard Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to Hospice of Ulster County 34 Broadway, Kingston, New York 12401.

Theresa Radzivila
POUGHKEEPSIE - Theresa Radzivila of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Wingate at Dutchess after a long illness and was lovingly cared for by her husband for several years. She was born to the late John and Anna Horvath Fedor in Yonkers on August 29, 1924. Theresa was educated at the Holy Trinity School and was an active member of the Sokols Marching Band and was also a graduate of the Yonkers High School of Commerce. During World War II, Theresa worked in several defense factories manufacturing War Clothing Products. After the war, she worked as a clerk in the Alexander Smith Carpet Factory in Yonkers. She continued her activities with the Sokols Marching Band and was to meet her future husband with a mutual interest on the Drum Corps Circuit. On September 3, 1949, Theresa married Raymond Radzivila at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Yonkers. The family moved to the Poughkeepsie area in 1960. She is survived by her husband Raymond, and a daughter, Terri and her husband, Paul Smith and grandsons, Christopher and Timothy Smith, all of Wappingers Falls. She is also survive by a brother, Michael and his wife, Alicia Fedor of Palm Harbor, FL along with many nieces and nephews. Theresa was predeceased by her parents, John and Anna Fedor, her brothers, Steve, John, Charles, Francis, and sisters Vera Poakeart and Helen Resko. She was a 50 year member in the National Slovak Catholic Sokal; a life member in the national DAV Auxiliary and a life member in the 96th Infantry Division Deadeye Association Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Martin dePorres Parish and was an avid Bingo player prior to her long illness. The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 8 pm., at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc. 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie on Sunday, July 27, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 10:15 a.m. at St. Martin dePorres Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Hospice of Dutchess County, Inc., 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Donald F. Schomaker
FISHKILL, NY - Donald F. Schomaker, 76 years old, of Fishkill, formerly of Poughkeepsie, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was a resident of the area since 1964. Born March 17, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late Edwin B. and Frances Nou Schomaker. Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1954 to 1956. He received a Bachelor's Degree in chemical engineering and was employed by IBM in East Fishkill as an engineer for twenty-nine years until his retirement. Donald was a member of the Chelsea Yacht Club and enjoyed sailing in the summer. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed working out and aerobics with his group at Casperkill Country Club. A devoted father and loving grandfather, Donald is survived by three sons, Douglas A. Schomaker of CA, Michael E. Schomaker of Poughkeepsie, and Jonathan J. Schomaker and his wife, Jacqueline A., of Green, ME; a daughter, Lisa C. Avnet and her husband, Mark, of Goshen, CT; his long-time companion, Lucy Rado of Wappingers Falls; five grandchildren, Colin and Haylay McEachern, Mary E., Donald J. and Jonathan C. Schomaker, all who will miss their "Grampy"; several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Carol Audrey Dells Schomaker. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 29th at 11 a.m. at the Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Homes, Inc., 1028 Main Street, Fishkill. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 in Donald's memory.

Robert E. Whitesell
INDIAN LAKE ESTATES, FL - Robert E. Whitesell, 84, of Indian Lake Estates, FL, died July 23, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. A longtime local resident, he also resided in Cape Cod, MA, and Indian Lake Estates, FL. He had been an engineer for IBM in East Fishkill from 1950 until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Whitesell served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II as a sergeant in the China-Burma-India Theater. He was a former chairman of the LaGrange Democratic Committee and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, Indian Lake Estates Golf & Country Club, Chequessett Yacht & Country Club and Cronin's Golf Course, Warrensburg, NY. He played semi-pro baseball locally in the Tri-State League and was very active in the LaGrange Little League. He's had 6 holes-in-one, the last at age 80. Born in Poughkeepsie on June 9, 1924, he was the son of James H. Whitesell and Margaret Mary McGrath. As a child, he grew up on the FDR Estate in Hyde Park. He received his education from Syracuse University. On Nov. 4, 1949 at Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Syracuse, NY, he married Anita Oles. Mrs. Whitesell survives at home. Additional survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Edward F. and Joan Whitesell, Staatsburg, NY; son, John K. Whitesell, Falmouth, MA; daughter, Margaret M. Whitesell, Nutting Lake, MA; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara W. and John Ryan, Sudbury, MA and Maribeth and Paul Jahn, Latham, NY; grandchildren, Edward, Jr., David and Kelin Whitesell, Katherine and Jennifer Ryan, Geoffrey and Emily Jahn, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Robert, Jr., brothers, James, Edward, John, William, Joseph and Richard and sisters, Mary, Margaret, Florence, Alyce and Barbara. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2-6pm at William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 28, 2008 at 9:45am at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main St., Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery with military honors. Memorial donations may be made to Special Olympics, 1133 19th St., NW Washington, DC 20036-3604 or www.specialolympics.org or to Boys Town, 300 Flanagan Blvd., PO Box 7000, Boys Town, NE 68010 or www.boystown.org.
