Merle H. Russell
POUGHKEEPSIE - Merle H. Russell, 79, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with his family by his side. Mr. Russell was Coowner and President of Harvey Russell and Sons, a fuel oil and heating company founded in 1929 by his father. He was a well respected businessman, admired for his honesty and service to his customers. He retired in 1998. Born in Poughkeepsie on July 3, 1929, he was the son of Harvey and Frances Williams Russell. On May 6, 1951 Merle married his wife of 57 years, Margaret M. Lucas. Together they raised four children. He was a life member of Rochdale Fire Co. Merle was the devoted husband of Margaret Russell; loving father of Diane Russell and her husband John Radtke of New Bern, NC, Gary Russell and his wife Maryann of Staatsburg, Brian Russell of Poughkeepsie, and Douglas Russell and his wife Tasha of Poughkeepsie; dear grandfather of Ryan, Brandon and Ashley Russell, all of Pleasant Valley and Gina and Laura Russell, both of Staatsburg; brother of Donald Russell and his wife Margaret of Clinton Corners; brother of Nancy Williams and husband Harley of Oneonta, NY; and nephew of Florence Williams of Poughkeepsie. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Merle always enjoyed a good joke and offered sound business advice, "Don't take any wooden nickels." Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Parmele Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be held Friday 10:30 am at the Community Chapel of Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery with interment to follow. Memorial donations may be made in Merle's memory to Arlington Rescue Squad.

Joseph P. Carroll Sr.
CORNWALL - Joseph P. Carroll, Sr. formerly of Sharon and Amenia, NY, died Friday, July 25th at Geer Memorial after a long couragious fight against cancer. Mr. Carroll was born in Amenia, NY on December 6, 1930, a son of Florence (Brunese) Carroll and the late John Carroll. He married the late Shiela Lehnert in 1955. Joe, AKA, "Pa Pa Joe" served in the US Army and was a Korean War Veteren. He worked for the Amenia Highway Department and The NYS DOT for many years. Joe loved baseball, deer hunting but most of all he loved his family. Joe was well known in the local Baseball circles. He played and managed the Amenia Monarchs for many years, coached Amenia Babe Ruth and Connie Mack teams and women's softball teams. He is survived by his Mother, Florence B. Carroll of Salisbury Ct. His Son, Joseph Carroll, Jr. and his wife Debbie of North Canaaan, his son Stephen Carroll and his wife Jill and a daughter Michelle Murphy and her husband George all of Amenia, NY. His grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Alex, Regan Carroll and Tyler Gelbar all of North Canaan and Stephen, Gavin and Logan Carroll of Amenia. He is also survived by brothers, John, Richard, Alan, Philip and William Carroll all of Amenia. Sisters Marion Ursula Robertson of Largo Florida and Jean Leggett of Wassaic, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Thomas. A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at St. Bernard's Church in Sharon, CT, at 11:00AM. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Kenny Funeral Home on Main ST., in Sharon, CT, from 6:00-8:00PM. Dennis L. Sutton
GARDINER - Dennis L. Sutton, age 58, of Gardiner died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY. Mr. Sutton was born December 6, 1949 in Newport News, VA, the son of the late E.C. and the late Dorothy (White) Sutton. He married Loren G. Stern April 1, 1983 in Wappingers Falls, NY. He was employed by Den-Lo, Gardiner, NY. He is survived by his wife: Loren G. (Stern) Sutton; three daughters: Rachel Sutton of Gardiner, NY; Meggan Sutton of Brooklyn, NY; Cori & Douglas Schultz of FL; and one son: Gregg Sutton of Gulfport, MS; one sister: Judy Sutton of Rio Rancho, NM; Grandchildren: Mason Sutton, Samantha Schultz, and Aeden Schultz; Aunt & Uncle: Walt & Nancy White of La Grangeville, NY; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be Thursday, July 31, 2008 from 5 - 7:30pm at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. The funeral will be held at 7:30 at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc. Cremation will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, NY. Memorials may be made to UCSPCA, 20 Wiedy Rd., Kingston, NY 12401. Vincenza Sottile Vitek
Vincenza Sottile Vitek passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Putnam Nursing & Rehab Center. She was 96 years old. Vincenza was born on September 16, 1911 at 200 Christie Street in New York City. She was the first of three children born to Antonio and Giacoma Sottile. At an early age the family moved to Pawling encouraged by Tom Valente, who owned a grocery store here. Her father became the village iceman and Vincenza was raised in Pawling and attended Pawling Schools. In 1935 on September 29th, she married Stephen Vitek at St. John's Church. They purchased and moved into an apartment house in Pawling at 2 Elm Street where they became landlords for many years. From 1945-1951 they owned and operated Vitek's Bakery on East Main Street in Pawling. Following the sale of the bakery, Vincenza worked for Robert Gamache in his grocery store for many years until she retired. She was a faithful member of St. John's Church all her life, and a lo ng-time member of St. John's Adoration Program. She loved her small town life in Pawling, and took great pride in keeping her apartment building and yard in pristine condition for over 69 years. Vincenza is predeceased by her husband, Stephen, who passed away on August 26, 1978; two brothers, Sam Sottile and Frank Sottile; and a niece, Donna Dexter. She is survived by her niece, Carol Ann Sottile Christiansen and her husband Jerry; two nephews, William Vitek and Robert Vitek; her sister-in-law, Helen Vitek; and several cousins. Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, Wednesday 2-5 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 AM at St. John's Church, Pawling, NY. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Pawling.

Ann Feldsine Walsh
POUGHKEEPSIE - Ann Feldsine Walsh, 76, a resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on Sunday, July, 27, 2008. Ann was born October 22, 1931 in New York City to the late John Feldsine and Margaret Dowe. On Sept. 5, 1954 Ann married John J. Walsh Sr. who survives at home. Ann worked for the Vocational Educational Services for Individuals with disabilities. After retiring, she volunteered at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Ann is survived by her children Vera Walsh of Poughkeepsie, Elaine Hodgdon of Hyde Park, Kathleen Zubrycki and her spouse Cliff of Rhinebeck, John Jr. Walsh and his spouse Lorraine of Hyde Park, Patricia Doolittle and her spouse Roy of Longwood, Fl, Patrick Walsh and his spouse Denise of Hyde Park, Christine O'Dell and her spouse Michael of Hyde Park, Gregory Walsh of Hyde Park, and Mary Walsh of Poughkeepsie. Also a brother, Peter Feldsine of Washington State. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Ann is predeceased by her brother, John Feldsine Jr., a sister Catherine Manning, and a grandchild. Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 30, 2008 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm at the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home, 4353 Albany Post Rd., Hyde Park, NY. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Rosary Chapel in Poughkeepsie with Father James Garisto officiating. Interment to follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to : St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Carolyn Shiverick Caruso
SALT POINT - Carolyn Shiverick Caruso, 88, of Salt Point, died peacefully at home on Monday, July 28, 2008 after a short illness with her family by her side. She had been a resident of Salt Point since 1986. Born February 24, 1920 in Albany, NY, she was the youngest of four children of Myron Davis Shiverick and Ruth Stackhouse. After graduating from Albany High School, Carolyn worked in Washington, D.C., on Wall Street in New York and for the British Purchasing Commission, traveling around the country after WW-II with a team of architects, which included Walter Gropius. In 1948, she met and married Lawrence Caruso of Marlboro, NY, where they raised their family and lived for 38 years. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend, and a talented pianist and artist. Carolyn is survived by her children, Ruth and Jack Rower of Fairfax, VA, Mary and Roy Clark of Salt Point, Joe and Marilyn Caruso of Hyde Park, and Martha Caruso of Salt Point; sister in law Catherine Falcetano of Newburgh, NY; grandchildren, Abby Rower, Eric Rower, Jennifer Boardman, Katherine Lanciano, Peter Clark, Jill Caruso, Matthew Caruso, Sam Runner, and Ben Runner; great grandchildren, Molly Boardman and Hayley Boardman; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband in 1996, a sister, Lois Shiverick Hike and two brothers, Foster Swift Shiverick and Myron Davis, Jr. Visitation will be Friday, August 1 from 10am - 12 noon at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home at 12 noon, with Rev. Tom Hartley presiding. Interment will follow in Salt Point Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice, Inc., 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Adamarie G. Dean
POUGHKEEPSIE - Adamarie "Ada" G. Dean, 76, of Poughkeepsie, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Adamarie was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on November 12, 1931, to the late Charles and Effie Garrison. She married Robert C. Dean on August 28, 1955 in Pleasant Valley, NY. Mr. Dean predeceased her April of 1990. Adamarie was a hairdresser for 58 years. Most recently employed by Rafael's and Vassar Warner Home in Poughkeepsie. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Grandmother and friend. Always a caretaker, nurturing, loving and giving of herself to all those around her. Ada's family always came first. Adamarie is survived by her three children, James R. Dean and his wife, Laurie Dean of Poughkeepsie, NY; Lynda M. Luria and her husband, Dr. Lance Luria of Springfield, MO; Diane E. Diggelmann and her husband, J. Robert Diggelmann of Salt Point, NY; her grandchildren, Jeremy Dean, Jake and Nick Luria, Ryan and John Diggelmann; and two sisters, Josephine Dowd of Poughkeepsie and Lillian Stearns of Hughsonville, NY. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 pm Friday, August 1st at the Allen Funeral Home 1605 Main Street, Pleasant Valley, NY 12569. Funeral services will be held 10 am Saturday, August 2nd at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, 92 Martin Road Pleasant Valley, with Pastor Steve Knutsen officiating. Burial will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Ada's memory to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Rd., Suite 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
