Isabelle Poti
FISHKILL - Isabelle Poti, a longtime area resident, having moved to Fishkill from Worcester, MA in 1950, died peacefully on August 6, 2008. Isabelle was born in Worcester, MA on June 29, 1918 and was the daughter of the late Minnie M. Smith and Malcolm K. Smith. On August 29th, 1942, she married Emil Poti, who predeceased her. She was a registered nurse, graduating from Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA, in 1936. Isabelle was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beacon for over fifty years, active in the Ladies Aid and Alpha group; an avid golfer, belonging to the women's league at the McCann Country Club in Poughkeepsie; and a volunteer at Nifty Thrifty in Fishkill. She was predeceased by a sister and two brothers, and is survived by her daughter, Barbara Crooker of Fogelsville, PA; her son, James Poti of Midlothian, VA, her brother, David Smith of Waynesburg, PA, four granddaughters, two grandsons and one great-grandson. She lived at The Fountains in Millbrook for two years, and in Country Meadows, Allentown, PA, for eight. Services are private. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 50 Liberty St., Beacon, NY 12508. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert C Weir Funeral Home, Allentown PA.

Cecilia ("Ceil") Petito Rhea
ALBERTVILLE, AL - Cecilia ("Ceil") Petito Rhea, 86, of Albertville, AL, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008 at Marshall Medical Center South. She was the daughter of Antony Eugene Jr. and Gactana Sampere Petito. Survivors include her daughters, Judy Rhea of Albertville, AL; Melissa (Candy) Rhea of Herndon, VA; Denise Rhea McKenzie (Ken) of Manassas, VA; Dot Hutchins (Michael) of Guntersville, AL; a son, Richard Rhea of Wassaic; brothers, Joseph Petito of Poughkeepsie; Rudy Petito of Cairo, NY; sister, Grace Schad of Hyde Park; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Rose Torsone. Arrangements by Adams Funeral Home of Albertville, 6906 Highway 431, Albertville, AL.

Hans R. Rottmann
POUGHKEEPSIE - Hans R. Rottmann, beloved husband, devoted father and grandfather, and loyal friend to many, passed away peacefully at home on August 5th. He was born on August 10, 1925 in Erfurt, Germany. He spent his youth in Stadtilm, Thuringen, and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Physics at the University of Jena and a Doctorate in Nuclear Physics at the University of Heidelberg in 1957. Dr. Rottmann married Kerttu Saukko in Finland in 1959. He leaves behind his wife and their three children: daughter Lisa LaVigna and husband Claude and grandchildren Joe and Nicole, Albany, NY; daughter Tina Mrazik and husband Tony and grandchildren Peter, Sophia, and Samuel, Niskayuna, NY; and son Hans E. Rottmann and wife Molly and grandchildren Hans, Max, and Jude, Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Rottmann led a life that was heavily influenced by both WW II and the rise of Communism which resulted in the creation of East and West Germany. As a youth, he served in the German army and was seriously wounded. In 1953, he took part in the uprising against the Communist Regime in East Germany. For this action, he was imprisoned for one year. Upon release, he escaped to West Germany. His experiences in Europe gave him a keen appreciation of the benefits of democracy. He devoted much time and energy to spreading the message that democracy requires the active involvement of the electorate. In 1958, he left Germany to teach physics at the Instituto Tecnol-gico in Monterrey, Mexico. He came to the United States in 1959 and worked at Owens Illinois Glass Company in Toledo, Ohio before moving to Poughkeepsie in 1963. He worked as a physicist for IBM until 1991. After retiring, Dr. Rottmann found many ways to enrich the life of his community. He particularly enjoyed talking with high school students about his experiences in Nazi Germany and under Communism. For over fifteen years, he spoke in area high schools and he was always willing to express his admiration for, and gratitude to the United States. He exhorted young people to become active voters because he had experienced first hand the horrors of dictatorship. In addition to speaking at area schools, Dr. Rottmann volunteered as a tour guide at the Roosevelt Mansion, was an active member of the Friends of Poughkeepsie Public Library, and a volunteer for Child Protective Services. Calling hours with a memorial service to celebrate this truly extraordinary life will be held on Friday, August 8th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at William G. Miller and Son Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie. The family requests that donations be made to Adriance Memorial Library, 93 Market Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 in memory of Hans Rottmann.

Jeanette (Jean) Wisner
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL - Jeanette (Jean) Wisner, formerly of Wappingers Falls, died August 4 in her home in Altamonte Springs, FL of natural causes. She was 73. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jackson (Jack), of 45 years, three sons: Jay Wisner of Montpelier, VT, Peter Wisner of King of Prussia, PA, David Wisner of Thessaloniki, Greece, and four daughters, Deborah Vlam of Waco, TX, Katherine Reece of Las Vegas, NV, Christy Bazley of Naples, FL, and Linda Trocine of Oviedo, FL, and 17 grandchildren. She was a member of Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls, a graduate of SUNY New Paltz, and she worked for the Dutchess County Youth Services Unit. She retired to Florida in 1983 where she became a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League and became an ACBL certified duplicate bridge teacher. Mrs. Wisner was a director for the Port Orange, FL Duplicate Bridge Game, for the Daytona Beach Shores Senior Center Duplicate Bridge Game, and for numerous cruise lines' duplicate bridge lessons and games. A memorial for family members and close friends will be held Friday, August 8 at her daughter's home in Oviedo, Florida.

Lillian Wooden
RHINEBECK - Lillian Wooden, age 97, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Northern Dutchess Hospital with her family by her side. Born June 2, 1911 in the Town of Clinton, NY, she was the daughter of the late Casper and Anna Latin Rhynders. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed square dancing in her younger years and was an officer and lifetime member of the Fallkill Grange. She also enjoyed her trips to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Lillian held many positions throughout her lifetime. She was a "sky watcher" during World War II, one of the first bus drivers in the Town of Clinton and ultimately, retired from the National Park Service after several years of employment. Her husband, Albert Wooden, had served as the first Chief of the West Clinton Fire Company, and, predeceased her in 1973. Additionally she was predeceased by her sisters, Alva Ellis and Lena Herzfeld, and her brother, Ruben Rhynders. Lillian is survived by her son, Howard Babcock and his wife, Marion, of Port Ewen; and her grandsons, Michael Babcock and wife, Jackie, Jeffrey Babcock, and David Babcock and wife, Gail. She was also great-grandmother to Lily and Ella Babcock, and is survived by several nieces and nephews as well as many friends that will greatly miss her. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Babcock residence, 57 Rondout Harbor, Port Ewen, from 2 to 4 pm, Sunday, August 10th to celebrate the Life of Lillian Wooden. In keeping with her wishes, cremation and burial of her ashes in the family plot in the Schultzville Cemetery in the Town of Clinton will take place at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the West Clinton Fire Company, 219 Hollow Road, Staatsburg, NY 12580. Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

Howard M. Garabrant
FISHKILL - Howard M. Garabrant, formerly of Lake Sagamore, Kent, NY, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2008 at Elant Health Care facility in Fishkill, NY, he was 91. Mr. Garabrant proudly served in the United States Army during WWII and attended the Nuremberg trials. During his career he owned the Kent Cliff General Store in Kent, NY. Mr. Garabrant is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 68 years, Margaret MacColl Garabrant, a daughter, Anne Trier of Deltona, FL, a daughter-in-law, Patricia Garabrant of Port Saint Lucie, FL, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Nickerson and a son, Bruce H. Garabrant in 1997. There are no calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Services are under the direction of the Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Homes, Inc., 1028 Main Street, Fishkill.

John (Jack) J. Mooney
HARRISON - John (Jack) J. Mooney, 62, lost his courageous battle with lung cancer on August 7, 2008. He was born on January 11, 1946 in the Bronx. Jack resided in Dutchess County for fifteen years before finding his way to Harrison, NY for the past twenty years. The son of the late Thomas and Mary Ita Mooney, he is survived by his children; Christopher Mooney of New York, NY; Kerrianne Hammond, her husband, Jeff of Hyde Park, NY; Jennifer Pessetto and her husband, Peter of Raleigh, NC; and his cherished grandchildren Jake and Kamryn Hammond. Brothers, James and William; sisters, Peggy, Eileen, and Marianne, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive him. His brothers Thomas and Daniel predecease him. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served with the Seabees and did tours in Antarctica, Spain, Korea and Vietnam. He was a current member of the VFW Post 3047. Jack retired as a sales executive for AT&T; after 31 years and has been a proud member of the Fleet Pump & Service Group in Harrison, NY for the last ten years. He was also a volunteer fireman at the New Hackensack firehouse in Dutchess County. However, the job he enjoyed most was his 'guest' bartending at Gus's Restaurant in Harrison, NY where he was loved and adored by many. Jack was an avid NY Yankee, NY Ranger and NY Giant fan. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland, Germany, Italy, England and a very special trip to Normandy, France. He always looked forward to his summer trip to Saratoga Springs for the past several years. Jack will be missed by all with whom he shared his love and friendship. We love you Jack -"Sláinte!
