Myrtle I. Miller
PAWLING - Myrtle I. (Monington) Miller, 94, a resident of Pawling, NY passed away Thursday, August 7, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY. Born in the Bronx on July 1, 1914, she was the daughter of Alexander and Edith Mae (Brown) Monington. On March 10, 1934, she married Thomas D. Miller in Albany, NY; he predeceased her on April 6, 1999. Mrs. Miller was a housewife and mother, who loved doing crossword puzzles and knitting, even creating her own patterns for her knitted afghans and quilts. She is survived by her two daughters, Carol Reynolds of Pawling, NY and Irene Boretti of New Fairfield, CT; three grandchildren, Brian Reynolds of South Windsor, CT, Raymond Boretti of Jacksonville, NC, and Terese Catucci of Southington, CT; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her eight brothers and sisters. Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY Monday, August 11th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home at 8:30 PM. Burial private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220; the Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc., PO Box 531313, Henderson, NV 89053; or the Division of Extramural Research, 6001 Executive Boulevard Suite 3309, Bethesda, MD 20892-9531.

Catherine Pucino
BEACON - Catherine Pucino, a longtime Beacon resident, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, with her family by her side. She was 85. The daughter of Decio and Mary Formato Lanni, she was born in Jersey City, NJ on December 9, 1922. She moved to Beacon where she met her future husband, Orlando W. "Red" Pucino, whom she married on March 13, 1939. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1993. They had four daughters, Vi Babcock, Fishkill, Donna Sunich, Huntington Beach, CA, Tina Robinson, Fishkill, and Brenda Kimmel, Beacon; one son, Angelo Pucino, Fishkill; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Catherine was employed by the former Tuck Tape, Beacon, for twenty years and was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon. She was an avid cook, enjoyed music, and loved all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The family will receive their friends on Monday evening, August 11, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, August 12, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 Willow Street, Beacon. Interment will follow in St. Joachim's Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.

John Joseph Faranda
HOPEWELL JUNCTION - John Joseph Faranda, 40, a lifelong local area resident, died at home on August 9, 2008. A fan of the New York Rangers, he was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing billiards. He was formerly employed as an electrician for Precision Valve in Yonkers, where he had worked for nearly ten years. Born in Yonkers on April 27, 1968, he was the son of Charles and Barbara Senita Faranda, who survive in South Carolina. On June 4, 2005, he married Karen Campion, who survives at home. Additional survivors include his brother, Chuck Faranda of Stormville; sister, Debbie Anjos and her husband Jeff of Hopewell Junction; father-in-law, Kenneth Campion of South Carolina; brother-in-law, Kenneth Campion and his wife Fran of Yonkers; sister-in-law, Kelly Socol and her husband Adam of Connecticut; brother-in-law, Keith Campion of Yonkers; brother-in-law, Kirk Campion of Yonkers; nieces, Nicole and Kristina Campion and Paige and Meghan Socol; aunt and uncle, Rose and Joe Faranda of Carmel; aunt, Diana Barrett of South Carolina; also many cousins and his adoring cats, McCooley and Baby. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow at St. Denis Cemetery.

Katherine E. E. Pitts
POUGHKEEPSIE - Katherine E.E. Pitts, 94, of Poughkeepsie, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at The Pines in Poughkeepsie. Born in Poughkeepsie on December 24, 1913, she was the daughter of Otto and Jennie Mae Robins Terbush. She was a graduate of Poughkepsie High School, Class of 1931. She was a member of the Excelsior Lodge of Rebeccah's. On April 25, 1943 in Poughkeepsie she married Frederick Pitts who predeceased her. Mrs. Pitts worked at the Pocket Book Factory, Cigar Factory, Smith Brothers and Woolworth's, all in Poughkeepsie. Katherine is survived by her 2 sons, Robert and Richard Pitts, both of Poughkeepsie; daughter, Marcia Ward of Corning, NY; grandchildren, Deborah Ward, Sarah Ward and husband Eugene, David Ward, and Melissa Costello and husband Dennis; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Howard Terbush and sister Marion Becker Family and friends will gather and form a procession on Wednesday, 10 am at Parmele Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie. Interment will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.

Violet May Smith
CITY OF POUGHKEEPSIE - Violet May Smith, 78, of the City of Poughkeepsie, died Sunday, August 10, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker, a member of the Seniors's Club of Poughkeepsie, and loved to play bingo and travel. Born August 28, 1929 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of Frank and Gladys Hopkins Simpson. On November 17, 1959 in the Town of Hyde Park, she married John D. Smith, who predeceased her on June 11, 1971. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Sue and Richard Macintosh of Canton, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Glen Dlugach of Bartlett, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Cheryl Smith of Canton, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Tina Smith of Marlboro, NY; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her brother, Joseph Simpson of Hudson; sister, Virginia Perry of Poughkeepsie; sister, Betty Mary of Hudson; she was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Victor and Vincent Simpson. Calling hours will be from 6pm to 8pm, Tuesday, August 12, at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Donald Gibson
HYDE PARK - Donald Henderson Gibson, 73, formerly of Hyde Park, died August 10, 2008 at his home. Born in Winchester, Kentucky on December 27, 1934, he was the son of Leon and Mildred [Fultz] Gibson. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Adelaide "Bette" [Van Deventer] Gibson of Hebron, Pam Neely and her husband, Tom of Fairport, Meg Sevrens and husband, Glenn of Rohnert Park, CA, Katheryn Goodyear and husband, Frank, of Tillson, Laura Adams and husband, Michael of Davidson, NC, Rick Johnson and wife, Roberta of Boise, ID, Adelaide Johnson and husband, Mike of Juneau, AK, Wilhelmina Bradley and husband, Charlie of Kingston, NH, 9 grandchildren, brother, David Gibson and sister, Barbara Jo Redding, both of Versailles, KY, many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Main St, Plymouth on Friday at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society, or the charity of one's choice. The Mayhew Funeral Home, of Plymouth and Meredith, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Jeanne Koskie
TILLSON - Jeanne P. Batterson Koskie, 56, of Carroll Street, Tillson, NY, went to her eternal rest on August 10, 2008, after a lengthy illness. She was born January 2, 1952 in Yonkers, New York, to Rosalie DeFrancesco Percesepe of Hopewell Junction, NY, and the late Arnold Percesepe. Jeanne died peacefully in her home, surrounded by loving family members and friends. Jeanne was married to Edward Koskie; they wed on June 3, 2000 at St. Phillips of the Highlands, Garrison, NY. Jeanne and Ed greatly enjoyed traveling together. Their recent vacation in Montreal, Canada was especially memorable. Jeanne was an accomplished musician and opera singer, who studied with prominent voice teachers in New York. A 1970 graduate of Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, New York, Jeanne studied French and vocal music at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, and the University of Rennes, France. She worked as a fundraising consultant and grant writer, having held development positions at the Taconic Foundation, Riverkeeper, and the Episcopal Diocese of Albany, New York. She was a communicant at Christ the King Episcopal Church, in Stone Ridge, New York, where Jeanne served for a time as Choir Director. Jeanne fought a courageous battle against ovarian cancer. The family expresses their gratitude to Hospice of Ulster County, and the caring health care professionals at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, New York. Jeanne will be remembered for her fierce intelligence, her lively sense of humor, her passion for justice and fairness, her lovely soprano voice, and above all, her commitment to her family and to Jesus the Christ. A great light has gone out. Her family and friends light candles of remembrance and carry her life with us wherever we go. She will be missed, and our loss is great, but the circle of love and light that surrounds us is unbreakable and everlasting. "And now abideth faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." In addition to her husband and her mother she is survived by step daughters, Heather Koskie, Kingston, NY, Melanie Koskie, Ulster Park, NY, step granddaughter, Kiana and step grandson, Cameron Marshall, brothers, Gary J. Percesepe, Springfield, OH, Robert T. Percesepe, Hopewell Junction, NY, Douglas A. Percesepe, Poughkeepsie, NY, several aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Jeanne was predeceased in death by her beloved brother, Thomas A. Percesepe. Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10am, at Christ the King Episcopal Church in Stone Ridge, NY, with the Reverend Alison Quin, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, 50 Jackson Avenue, Hastings-on Hudson, NY. Friends may call at Keyser Funeral Service in Kingston on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Benedictine Hospital Health Foundation, Linda Young Ovarian Cancer Support, 105 Mary's Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401.
