Shirley Scott
TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE - Shirley Scott, 74, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008 at her home. Ms. Scott was the Director of Therapeutic Activities at Craig House and later as the Residence Director at Greystone in Clinton Corners, retiring in 1990. Born March 5, 1934 in Massena, NY, she was the daughter of Riland and Verna Perkins. She moved to Virginia as a young women where she met her first husband, George Bishop. They moved to East Fishkill where they raised their two children. Later she moved to Poughkeepsie with her second husband, Walter Scott. Survivors include her son, Michael Bishop of Phoenicia; her daughter, Lori Golestani of Clinton Corners; her grandson Daniel; her beloved granddaughter, Erin and three great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Russell W. Shook
POUGHQUAG - Russell W. Shook, 80, a long-time resident of Poughquag, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie. Born in Rhinebeck, NY on May 10, 1928, he was the son of Raymond and Roberta (Day) Shook. He married the former Helen Thomson at the Poughquag United Methodist Church on September 27, 1953; she survives at home. A foreman and mechanic for the Arlington School District until he retired in 1992, he was a life-member, commissioner, and past chief of the Beekman Fire Department; he was also a past member of the Sylvan Lake Grange, who enjoyed hunting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Norma Gerth, of Pleasant Valley, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Helen Millus. Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Beekman Fire Department will conduct a service at 7 PM. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, August 15th at 11 AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Beekman Cemetery, Poughquag. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beekman Fire Department, PO Box 247, Poughquag, NY 12570.

Robert James "Pete" Gribbin Sr.
ALBANY - Robert James "Pete" Gribbin, Sr., 78, died at home in Albany, NY, on August 9, 2008, cared for by his loving wife of 57 years, Minnie and their four children. Pete was born on October 29th, 1929 in Portland, Maine and was the first son of Merton and Loraine (McLellan) Gribbin, both deceased. He attended schools in Portland and Augusta, Maine, graduating from Cony High School in 1947. He attended the University of Maine prior to his enlistment in the U.S. Navy in 1948. He served 4 years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. On October 28, 1951, in Augusta, ME, Pete married his high school sweetheart, Minnie G. Sutherland, who survives. They moved to Providence, RI where he completed his degree in Accounting and Finance at Bryant College and in 1955 began a 35-year career with IBM as a financial analyst, living in Poughkeepsie, NY, and numerous other IBM locations. Upon retirement in 1993, the couple moved back to Maine and enjoyed 14 wonderful years in Belfast. For a short time he was employed at Wooden Boat Magazine in Brooklin, ME, a place where he had taken boatbuilding and sailing classes previously. He also enjoyed learning a new sport at the Belfast Curling Club. Some of his happiest days were spent caring for his home overlooking Belfast Harbor. In 2007 the Gribbins relocated to Albany, to be nearer their family. Pete's memory will be forever carried on in the lives of his four beloved children and their families: Donna Gribbin Benedict and Jay of Poughkeepsie, Robert J., Jr. and Lisa of Lantana, Fl., Andrew of Albany, and Russ and Jennifer of Bloomfield, NJ. His eight grandchildren and their accomplishments were a continuing amazement and joy to him. He is also survived by his younger brother, Richard C. Gribbin of Augusta, his cousin, Patricia Tuttle of Beverly, MA and many dear nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service will take place in Augusta, ME at the convenience of the family. Remembrances in his name may be sent to the Albany Visiting Nurses Foundation, 35 Colvin Avenue, Albany, NY, 12206-1197. This loving group of individuals provided exceptional care and support during his 4month battle with cancer. Arrangements by Applebee Funeral Home, Delmar, NY.

Lena J. Tasciotti
RHINEBECK - Lena J. Tasciotti, 87, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008 at Ferncliff Nursing Home. Mrs. Tasciotti was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Born April 5, 1921, in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of Anthony and Domenica Lauria Muccio. She was educated in Poughkeepsie Schools. On June 2, 1940, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, she married Philip F. Tasciotti. Mr. Tasciotti died March 6, 1992. Survivors include her son, Philip F. Tasciotti Jr. and his wife, Nenita S. of Lagrangeville; a daughter, Barbara A. Kane and her husband, Henry of Pleasant Valley; her sister, Dolores Longbard of Poughkeepsie; her brother, Frank Muccio of Boca Raton, FL; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Patrick Tasciotti on Jan. 15, 1991, her brother, John Muccio and a sister, Marie Ridley. Calling hours will be 4-8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 218 Mill St., Poughkeepsie. Wheelchair access and parking is located from the rear of the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 18, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Poughkeepsie. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff of Ferncliff for their kindness in caring for Lena.

Ray Almgren
GEORGETOWN, TX - Ray Almgren, 75, of Georgetown, TX, died on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008. He was born on Oct. 28, 1932 in Poughkeepsie, NY. Ray graduated from Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie, and shorthly thereafter joined IBM where he had a very successful 36 year career as a manufacturing engineer. Ray met Martha, his wife of 47 years, while in Lexington, KY. They moved their family to Austin in 1967 and lived in Georgetown since 1976. He is survived by his wife, Martha Almgren; daughter, Elizabeth Juell; daughter, Jan Almgren Miller and husband, Tom Miller and son, Raymond Almgren and wife Lisa Almgren. He has eight grandchildren; Jill Bloom, Thor and Erica Juell, Megan and Morgan Miller, Sarah, Melissa and Rebecca Almgren. He has one great grandchild, Noah Juell. He has two brothers, Carl Almgren from Lexington, KY and Henry Almgren from Poughkeepsie, NY. Ray is preceded in death by his father Carl A. Almgren and his mother Esther D. Almgren, both of who emigrated from Sweden to United States in 1920. Ray was an active volunteer in the community and an elder in The First Presbyterian Church, in which he and Martha have been members for 30 years. He was a loving husband, a great father, and a wonderful grandfather. He will be remembered for his kindness and caring to everyone he met, his dedication to his family, and his playful spirit with his grandchildren. The memorial service to celebrate Ray's life was held on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church in Georgetown presided by Reverend Dr. Michael Roberts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Presbyterian Church, 703 Church St., Georgetown, TX 78626, The American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.

George Feather
MARYLAND, NEW YORK - George Feather, 78, of Maryland, New York, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. He was born on February 22, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Harry and Florence (Houlton) Feather. He married Barbara McCracken on October 27, 1956 in Davenport Center, New York. George was a mechanic, bus driver and Transportation Acting Supervisor for the Hyde Park Central School District for 23 years. He belonged to the Word of Faith Christian Family Center. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Feather, at home; a son, Glenn and his wife, Sharon of Hyde Park; a son, Mark and his wife, Cathrine, of Morris, NY; and a daughter, Kim and her husband, Glenn Freer of Elizaville, NY; a grandson, Glenn Robert Feather, Jr; six granddaughters, Shari Lynn Feather, Jamie Lee Freer, Jackie Lynn Freer, Stephanie Ryan Feather, Jessica Lynn Lindberg and Ashley Rene Green; four great-granddaughters Calissa and Kaylee Green and Kaitlen and Skylar Lindberg; a great-grandson Landon Lindberg and several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his mother and father; his son, George, Jr; brothers, William, Harry and Robert, and two sisters, Dorothy and Eva. Memorial Services will take place at Word o Faith Christian Family Center on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Frank, Jr. and Frank Sr. MacCracken officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In George's memory contributions may be made to the Word of Faith Christian Family Center's Building Fund, St. Hwy 7, Maryland, NY 12116. Margaret (Peggy) Thacher Goering
MEDFORD LEAS, NJ - Margaret (Peggy) Thacher Goering of Medford Leas, NJ, formerly of Poughkeepsie, died on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. She is survived by her husband Gilbert and four children, Ronald (Imogene Bessett) of Austin, TX; Peter (Margarita Dominguez) of Nevada City, CA; Laura Goering (Greg Smith) of Northfield, MN and Nancy Goering of Portland, OR; 2 grandchildren Mark and Molly. Her funeral will be private at the convenience of the family and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
