Anna Theresa De Marco
WAPPINGERS FALLS - Anna Theresa De Marco, 94, of Wappingers Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008 at Wingate at St. Francis of Beacon. Born in New York City on July 26, 1914, she was the daughter of James and Maria Forte Palazzo. She married Anthony J. De Marco on Dec. 25, 1939, at St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. Mr. De Marco predeceased her on Jan. 13, 1970. Mrs. De Marco attended Little Red Schoolhouse in Spackenkill, while her family resided at RUDCO, which was located near IBM's present main plant in the Town of Poughkeepsie. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Mothers Guild. From an early age, she excelled as a seamstress and was a floorlady at Dutchess Frocks Dress Factory in Wappingers Falls until her retirement. She and her husband owned and operated the South Avenue Bar & Grill in the village for many years. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed taking her four grandchildren on many trips with her sister, Millie as her sidekick. She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Boers and her husband, Bill of Fishkill and Anne Marie Becker and her husband, Ed of New Hamburg. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Robert Kimbark of Glen Falls; Edward and Michele Becker, Caroline & Eric loos of Wappingers Falls; and Melissa Drake of Marlboro. She also has seven great-grandchildren, whom she loved very dearly, Kyle & Daniel loos; Edward, Michael & Jennifer Becker; and Haley & Matthew Drake. She is also survived by two sisters, Mildred Palazzo of Poughkeepsie and Helen Velletri & Gus of Miami, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Vincenza Campilii and Charles Palazzo. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, at the Delehanty Funeral Home, 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, at St. Mary's Church, Clinton St., Wappingers Falls. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care given by the nurses and staff at Wingate at St. Francis of Beacon. In lieu of flowers, do a good deed in Anna's name.

Joseph Michael Tamney
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Joseph Michael Tamney, age 57, died Friday, August 08, 2008 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Joe was born November 16, 1950, in Poughkeepsie, New York, the son of Marianne Wermuth Tamney and the late LeRoy J. Tamney. As a life long resident of Poughkeepsie, NY, with more than 30 years with IBM, Joe retired and relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2003. With a passion for community service, Joe was a life member of the Croft Corners Fire Company (CCFC) where he served as President for several years in addition to serving on and leading numerous committees to benefit the Company as well as the community. As a first responder, Joe answered the alarm for both fire and ambulance calls. The awards he was most proud of were being named Fire Fighter of the Year, and an award for Heroism. Joe earned this honor for his quick actions, and disregard for his own safety in a major fire, which resulted in saving several lives. His son Jason was also a member of CCFC and is now a career firefighter with the Myrtle Beach Fire Department. He founded "Camp Swampy" Hunting Camp in Hancock, NY with several of his long time friends, and was an accomplished snare drummer who proudly marched with both the New York Skyliners and Vagabond Drum and Bugle Corps. Throughout his life, Joe remained an avid NY Giants, Rangers and Yankee fan. Staying true to his unending desire to help others, as an organ donor, Joe's final selfless act was a gift of himself to Life Point. Joe is survived by his mother, Marianne Tamney, his brother Robert Tamney and Robert's wife Christine all of Hyde Park, NY. His Aunts Elma Mackey and Margaret Wermuth and cousin Michael Mackey. He was predeceased by Uncles Fred Mackey and Tom Wermuth. He is also survived by his wife; Mary Finn Tamney; his son, Fire Fighter Jason Tamney; his daughter, Kyleen Tamney, and her fiancée, Fire Fighter Bruce Schwartz all of Myrtle Beach, SC. His mother-in-law Elizabeth Bohlinger Finn, sister-in-law Patricia Finn Polak, brother-in-law Captain George Finn of the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department and his wife Rosemary all of Poughkeepsie, NY. He was predeceased by his fatherin-law John F. Finn Sr. Joe's surviving nieces and nephews include Debbie Finn Vitarius, her husband Dale and their children Alex and Megan, Fire Fighter George Finn of the Arlington Fire Department and his sons Patrick and Michael, and Jennifer and Samantha Tamney. A memorial service will be held at Croft Corners Fire Company (CCFC), 7 Spackenkill Road, Poughkeepsie, NY, at 12 Noon on Saturday, August 16, 2008. Immediately following will be a celebration of life with friends and family at the same location. Norman Kingsley Bennett
ORMOND BEACH, FL - Ormond Beach, FL - Norman Kingsley Bennett, 86, of Ormond Beach, entered into eternal life on Monday, August 4, 2008. Norman was born in Pleasant Valley on July 26, 1922 and attended area schools where he graduated from Arlington High School. He served in the United States Army during WWII. While a resident of Hyde Park, he was a member of the Hyde Park United Methodist Church and an active member of the community. He served as a Town Councilman, Director of Recreation, President of the Lions Club and numerous other civic committees. He worked for Bell Telephone Company for 23 years and then left for a new and exciting life with a then unheard of concept company-Cable TV, in California. He worked for them until his retirement in Florida. Norman enjoyed golf, fishing and was an avid jig-saw puzzle fan. His family brought him much happiness. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alice Elizabeth (Betty) Bennett of Ormond Beach; son, Norman K. Bennett, Jr. and his wife, Gail, of La Grange; a daughter, Candace Vlcek and her husband, Charles, of New Jersey; a grandson, Glen Bennett and his wife, Elizabeth, of Houston, Texas; a granddaughter, Amy Fountain and her husband, David, of Millbrook; and 5 great grandchildren, Tessa, Skyler and Jamison Fountain, and Cooper and Mackenzie Bennett. He was predeceased by a son, David. Memorial contributions may be made in Norman's name to the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 1 Church Street, Hyde Park, NY 12538, or, the charity of your choice. A service to celebrate and honor Norman's life will be held at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church at a later date, at the convenience of the family.

Joseph J. DeVirgilio
HAZLET, NJ - Joseph J. DeVirgilio "JoeD", 82, of Hazlet, NJ, died Thursday, August 14th [2008] at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. He was a union truck driver and shop steward of Teamster Local 560 in Union City, retiring after 30 years. Mr. DeVirgilio was a WWII veteran, proudly serving with the Seabees in the Pacific campaigns of Saipan and Okinawa. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. He was the founder and 40+ year President of the Raritan High School Booster Club. He was the former Deputy-Mayor, Committeeman and Chairman of the Planning Board of Hazlet, and sometimes referred to as "Mr. Hazlet". He was a member of the Hazlet Italian-American Club. Mr. DeVirgilio was the first service award inductee into the Raritan High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Additionally, he received the recognition of having the Raritan High School Football Field name in his honor. He was predeceased by his wife, of 52 years, Jeanne M. DeVirgilio. Surviving are his eight children: Joseph J. Jr. and his wife, Carol of Poughkeepsie; Richard and his wife, Elizabeth of Howell; Daniel and his wife, Colleen of Las Vegas, NV; Jeanne Hlatky of Phoenix, AZ; Carol White and her husband, James of Hazlet; David and his wife, Julie of Sebastian, FL; John and his wife, Stacey of Hazlet; and Susan Failla and her husband, Timothy of Sebastian, FL. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren: Margeaux, Nicole, Lori, Corinne, Daniel and his wife, Michele, Jason, Anthony, Zachary, Isabelle, Olivia and Joseph DeVirgilio; Michael Schweitzer and his wife, Adina; Keri-Lyn Sharpnack and her husband, Rob; Jill Schweitzer; James and David White; Courtney Beaver and Kimberly, Dana and Jenna Failla. He also has 3 great-grandchildren: Gabriella and Gianna DeVirgilio and Logan Sharpnack. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Monday, August 18th at Laurel Funeral Home, 201 Laurel Ave., West Keansburg, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 am, Tuesday, August 19th at Holy Family Church, Union Beach, NJ. Entombment will be at St. Joseph's Mausoleum, Keyport, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the "Community Foundation of New Jersey - Joseph J. DeVirgilio Athletic Fund", PO Box 338, Morristown, NJ 07963-0338.

Sylvia Fallick Kerman
COLONIE, NY - Sylvia Fallick Kerman, 89, of the Beltrone Living Center on Winners Circle in Colonie died Friday morning August 15, 2008 at her residence. Mrs. Kerman was born in Poughkeepsie, NY and resided there most of her life. She had been a Capital District resident for the last 4 years. She was a member of Temple Beth El in Poughkeepsie. She and her husband, Hy Kerman met in Atlantic City during the war and have vacationed there ever since. Sylvia is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hy Kerman and 2 daughters, Sharon (William) Snyder of Port St. Lucie, FL and Denise (Dr. Nathan) Naparstek of Niskayuna, NY. Sister of Jules Fallick of South Orange, NJ. Grandmother of Dr. Adam Rosenberg, Beth Corrine Oxborough (Thom), Eli Naparstek, Rachel Naparskek and Joseph Naparskek. Great grandmother of Khalil, Caleb and Alice Oxborough. Services at Temple Beth El, 118 Grand Ave.. Poughkeepsie will be on Sunday, August 17, at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Temple Beth El Cemetery in Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colonie Senior Service Center Inc. at the Beltrone Living Center, 6 Winners Circle Colonie, NY 12205 or a charity of ones choice. Following the service of interment, the family will be returning to Temple Beth El in Poughkeepsie from 2-3pm. The period of mourning will be observed at the Naparstek residence 906 Northumberland Drive in Niskayuna, NY, through Friday with a minivan service on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm.

Janice passed away peacefully with her son by her side at Vassar Brothers Hospital on October 23, 2017.
Janice was born on June 20, 1927 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y to the late Selwyn and Helena Lozier. She graduated from Roosevelt High School.
On April 24, 1957 she married the “Love of her Life” Robert Hansut in Poughkeepsie.
Janice was predeceased by her husband Robert, her brother Selwyn Lozier, and her son Kevin. She is survived by her son Paul and his wife Gina of Highland, her daughter in law Debbie of Florida, her sister in laws Marie Lozier of Florida, Frances Slanina of South Dakota, her nephews Tom and Larry Lozier of Florida. Janice was a loving, caring, generous and compassionate Grandma, Great-grandma and grandma”jin” to her cherished little angels, Tiffani and her husband Josh Shear, Megan, Paulie, Camryn, Brynn, Kaylee and Lorenzo.
Janice also had a very special friendship with Annie Pampinella-Stokes who was always there to give assistance and keep an eye on her.
Janice worked for Dr. Lipton’s Office on Clover St. in Poughkeepsie for many years where she was affectionately known as the “Lollipop Lady” by all the local children. Many children even when not sick would stop by for her kindness and a lollipop.
Janice, after leaving the doctor’s office, became the traditional stay at home mom to her son’s Kevin and Paul. She was the mediator and negotiator for the family- always there to solve any problem whether big or small with a hug, a kiss, or special words of encouragement. She was the driver to and from sporting events or school activities. The financial planner and co-pilot for Bob when the family went on trips, not always to his pleasure or approval.
She enjoyed the times she watched her grandchildren and their trips to Toys R Us or Wal-Mart, and to spoil them with gifts.
Janice adored her life-mate Bobby and the 55 years they spent together. Whether it was their annual trip to Auger Lake for vacation, a bus trip, or their drives to visit family in Florida.
Janice enjoyed spending time volunteering in her community. She was very active in the Highland PTA when her boys were in school, Highland Little League, a founding member of the Highland Woman’s Republican Committee, the Highland Republican Committee, St. Augustine Bazaar, the Highland Rotary Ribfest, an inspector for the Board of Elections, and probably her favorite- annual judge at the Halloween parade.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 26th at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church in Highland, N.Y. at 11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, Janice’s wishes were for donations to be made to the Highland Rotary, PO Box 723, Highland, NY or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 38 Main St. Highland, NY 12528.

Evelyn Kozar
DICKSON CITY, PA - Evelyn Kozar, of Dickson City, died Thursday morning at home following an illness. Her husband of nearly 50 years is the Reverend Deacon Michael Kozar. Born in Taylor, PA., daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Michaylo Evanish, she was a 1952 graduate of West Scranton High School. She raised her family in Poughkeepsie, where she kept many friends and memories. Prior to moving to Dickson City from Poughkeepsie in 1995, she worked in the Guidance Dept. at Roy C. Ketcham High School in Wappingers Falls. She was an active member of St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Dickson City and cheerfully helped support her sons business. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and lived her life with faith and kindness, especially to those less fortunate. She smiled easily and often. She enjoyed the company of many friends and her family. She generously opened her heart and home to them all. Her grandchildren were the love of her life, and she enjoyed every minute of babysitting, shopping, attending all of their activities, and especially family gatherings. She passed on her many talents and values to them. They adored her in return, and her spirit lives on in them. She enjoyed traveling, especially annual trips to Florida, where she wintered, and loved the companionship of fellow "snowbirds" from the Scranton area. She loved walking on the beaches, dancing, baking, playing bocce ball, and cruises throughout the Caribbean with her friends. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. The family would like to thank Debbie Fiore and the support group of VNA Hospice; and also Dr. Christian Adonizio and his staff for their wonderful care during Evelyn's illness. Also surviving are three sons, Scott and wife, Mary of Clarks Summit; David of Cairo, N.Y.; and Gregg and wife, Lisette of Clarks Summit; two brothers, Andrew (Hank) Evanish of Taylor; and Ted and wife, Patricia of Jermyn; one sister, Ann Peskin of Clarks Summit; six grandchildren, Nicole, William, Natalie, Nina, Claudia and Luke Kozar; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by five brothers, Michael, George and John and infant brothers, William and Francis; and one sister, Mary Moskwa The funeral will be Monday at 9:00 AM from the John J. Turko and Sons Funeral Home, 402 Boulevard Ave., Dickson City with Divine Liturgy at 9:30 AM in St. Mary's Orthodox Church, Main St., Dickson City, to be celebrated by Very Reverend Ronald Kovac, Pastor, Very Reverend Elias Kozar, brother-in-law, and Reverend Deacon Michael Kozar. Interment will be in Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington. Friends may call Sunday from 5 until 8:30 PM. Parastas service will be at 8:00. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Orthodox Church, 522 Main St., Dickson City, PA 18519 or VNA Hospice, 301 Delaware Ave., Olyphant, PA 18447.
