Joseph Tiso
NEWBURGH - Joseph Tiso of Newburgh, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008 at Westchester Medical Center. He was born May 26, 1920 in Newburgh to Filomena Smurra and Nicola Tiso. He married Margaret Lewis Tiso on Nov. 23, 1947 at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh. Mr. Tiso was employed as a sporting goods buyer for Roskin Brothers, Middletown, retiring in 1981. Joseph scored 30 points in one game in Newburgh City League Men's Basketball setting a city record and he was was a gold medalist in the New York Senior Olympics Men's Tennis. He was a life member of the American Legion and Catholic War Veterans. He served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Mr. Tiso was a member of the Bachelors Club in Newburgh; New Windsor Senior Citizens and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Wyalusing, PA; seven children, Joseph Tiso Jr. (Kathryn) of North Myrtle Beach, SC; Christine Keeney (Tracy) of Wyalusing, PA; Theresa Tiso of Miller Place, NY; Mary T. Moxham (George) of Cottekill, NY; James Tiso of Newburgh; Carol Maddalena (Rob) of Hyde Park; and John Tiso of North Palm Beach, FL; eight grandchildren; Maggie Major, John Keeney, Jeffrey Keeney, Sarah Tiso, Amy Tiso, Francis Anderson, Kyle Anderson and Alexander Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Abby and Thomas Major; one aunt, Blanche Hearns of Newburgh; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Louise Warren, who passed away March 1998; two uncles and five aunts. Visitation was held Friday, Aug. 15 at the Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Alzheimer's Association, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

David R. Yolton
POUGHKEEPSIE - David R. Yolton, 68, died August 14, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born June 28, 1940 in Morristown, NJ, he was the son of Dr. Cuthbert R. and Leonia L. Duguay Yolton. Dave resided at the Vassar WarnerHome in Poughkeepsie, and is a former resident of Amenia, NY. He attended Canton ATC, in Canton, NY, graduating in 1960. Dave was employed by IBM of Poughkeepsie and retired in 1993. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley in June of 2008. Survivors include a sister, Mary Yolton and her husband, Charlie Swartz of Lisbon, NY, a brother, Frank Yolton and his wife, Sherry of Poughkeepsie, step-daughter, Yvonne Tomah of Poughkeepsie, granddaughter, Jessica Tomah of Poughkeepsie and several nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12noon, Monday, August 18, 2008 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 269 Church St. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie. Arrangements are the direction of Parmele Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.

Joan Beesmer
HARRISON, TN - Joan Dolores Beesmer, 79, of Harrison, Tennessee, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away at home on Thursday, July 31, 2008 after a short illness. Born June 30, 1929, in Poughkeepsie, she grew up in Royal Oak, Mich. She returned to New York and lived most of her life in LaGrangeville. In 1962 she established a ceramic shop named House of Bees. Joan enjoyed sharing her craft as an artisan for over 25 years. She managed Style Fabrics in 44 Plaza for several years until moving to Hudson, NY were she worked as a seamstress from her home. She moved to Harrison in 1999, where she was a bookseller with Books-a-Million until her retirement in April 2008. She enjoyed quilting, needlework, painting, reading, gardening, and was a committed participant in water aerobics and the area book club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Beesmer in 1961. Survivors include two daughters, Wendy Barden and her husband John, Poughkeepsie, and Penny Cheruk and her husband Harry, Harrison, TN; one sister Faith Sedore and husband Walter, Poughkeepsie; two grandchildren, Lindsay Watkins and her husband Michael, Ringgold, GA, and Kyle Barden, Poughkeepsie; two great-grandchildren, Braden and Analeigh Watkins; and several nieces and nephews. A Life Celebration and butterfly release was held at the family residence in Harrison, Tennessee on August 7. Interment will take place at Union Cemetery in Hyde Park at a later date. Jeannette Pettit Brannen
BEACON - Jeannette Pettit Brannen, 93, of Beacon, NY, died August 16, 2008 at Elant at Wappingers Falls, NY. She had been a seamstress, working for Sweet Orr & Co., Wappingers Falls and Handprints, Wappingers Falls. Born June 16, 1915 in Wappingers Falls, she was the daughter of Jessie and Annie Peters Pettit. She attended Wappingers schools. On Nov. 30, 1950 in Beacon, NY, she was married to Melvin Brannen, who predeceased her in 1958. Survivors include three grandsons, Matthew Griffin, Newburgh, Adam Griffin, Newburgh and Josh Griffin, Germany; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, including nieces, Patricia Garnot, Fishkill and Nancy McKinney, Wappingers Falls. She was predeceased by her daughter, Janice Griffin. Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Delehanty Funeral Home, 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, with Rev. Horace E. Choate, Jr. officiating. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 10-11am at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial will be in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.

Vestalia Hornbeck
HYDE PARK - Vestalia A. 'Vestie' Hornbeck, 77, a lifelong resident of the Town of Hyde Park, peacefully died Thursday, August 14, [2008] at home with her family by her side. Mrs. Hornbeck was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Born October 7, 1930, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Mannix Frost. She was a 1948 graduate of F. D. Roosevelt High School. On August 26, 1950, she married the love of her life, Robert S. Hornbeck, Sr., with whom she enjoyed fifty-eight wonderful years. Mr. Hornbeck survives at home. Before raising a family, Mrs. Hornbeck was employed at DeLaval from 1948 to 1950. Most recently, she worked for 19 years at Molloy Pharmacy until the time of her illness. With her husband, she enjoyed bowling, traveling, golfing, bingo, gardening, dancing, and going to the casino (where she was known as 'Lady Luck') and the beach. She won the title of PWBA Singles Championship '61-'62. She was a member of the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, and a volunteer at The Mark-It-Place. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Robert S. Hornbeck, Jr. and wife, Debora, grandson, Jason and his wife, Linda, great-granddaughter, Ariel, and grandson, Robert, all of Florida; daughter, Debra Hornbeck of Raleigh, North Carolina; son, Richard S. Hornbeck and wife, Margie, grandson, James, and granddaughter, Rebecca, all of Lilburn, Georgia; daughter, Patricia Jo Renaud, and granddaughter, Stephanie Renaud, both of Hyde Park; sister, Violet Losee and husband, Ed, of Newport Richey, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hornbeck was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Wiley. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial calling hours will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held on Wednesday, August 20th at 10 a.m. at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 1 Church Street, Hyde Park. Rev. Eileen Freeman will officiate. The family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Hyde Park United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society, Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Fred J. MacIsaac
TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE - Fred J. MacIsaac, 72, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at Ferncliff Nursing Home. Mr. MacIsaac was a Motor Vehicle Operator for the Town of Poughkeepsie Highway Department, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1302 and St. Martin dePorres Church. Mr. MacIsaac served in the Unites States Army 82nd Airbourne during World War II. Born Jan. 8, 1936 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of John A. and Mary Ellen Burke MacIsaac. He was an Arlington High School graduate. Survivors include his children, Barbara, Christine, Lisa, Fred, Mark and Darren MacIsaac; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marty and Eleanor MacIsaac of Poughkeepsie; Edward and Bernice MacIsaac of Poughkeepsie; sister and brothers-in-law, Margaret McAmblay of Poughkeepsie; Shirley Klein of Poughkeepsie; Hazel and Elting Raquet of Poughkeepsie; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, Daniel, Angus, Harold, Duncan and Francis; and a sister, Mary Ellen Schade. Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 18, at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, at St. Martin dePorres Church, Poughkeepsie. Edmund O'Keefe
POUGHKEEPSIE - Edmund J. O'Keefe, 62 years old, a longtime area resident, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. Edmund was born in Yonkers, NY on May 18, 1946, son of the late Edmund M. and Edith M. Palmer O'Keefe. Edmund had served his country as part of the United States Air Force, during 1966-1970. Edmund had last worked for the FAA from Stewart International Airport, Newburgh, as an Electric Technician. He had previously worked at the Dutchess County Airport and JFK Airport. He retired in 2000 after 34 years. Edmund was a member of the local Elks Lodge # 2609 of Wappingers Falls; the Manchester Gun Club, and most recently and very proud he was to be an honorary member of the Rolling Thunder, NY Chapter 3. Edmund was loved doing and could be seen doing many things; he was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting and fishing. He was well-rounded in all sports, especially golf and he loved his Yankees. Above all things, he was an avid gardener. Edmund is survived by his loving companion of over 20 years: Ellen Varian, who resides at their home; and his two daughters: Karen Doebling and her husband Scott of Bethesda, MD and Christine Siders and her husband Dan of San Diego, CA; and also his two "adopted" sons: Thomas Varian of Glenwood, CO, and Jason Varian of California. Ed is survived by his brother and one sister: Michael O'Keefe and his wife Melinda of Somers, NY and Patricia Dudley of Punta Gorda, FL. Ed is also survived by his five grandchildren: Margaret, Evelyn, Joseph, Owen, Elizabeth; and his nephew: Simon O'Keefe. Sadly he was predeceased by his sister: Nancy Schult and his nephew: Mark Erickson. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 18th from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. at the Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 900 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Funeral Service will be offered for Ed, 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 19th at the funeral home, followed by interment to Kenisco Cemetery, Hawthorne. The Family wishes that memorial donations be made in memory of Ed to the Rolling Thunder, NY Chapter 3, P.O. Box 10991, Newburgh, NY 12552.
