Richard Glenn
Richard Glenn of Ridge Road, Galway, died on April 12, 2001 at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa.

Born in Amsterdam, Mr. Glenn was a heavy equipment operator for the Saratoga County Highway Department for 32 years, retiring in 1978. He was a past member of the Galway Volunteer Fire Department and a current member of the United Rod and Gun Club in Benson, N.Y., and a member of the Bleecker Fish and Game Club. He also operated Sundown Meadow Farm until his retirement.

Survivors include three daughters, Janet Stangle, Nancy McWilliams, and Dorothy Wilson all of Gloversville; one son, Robert Glenn; eight grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home, Sacandaga Road, Galway Village, where a service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Spring interment will be in the West Galway Cemetery.

Those wishing to donate may do so to the Galway Fire Department in his memory.

Maj. Hallet Richard Knight
Maj. Hallet Richard Knight, 67, of Caroga Lake, where he had resided since 1972, died Friday, April 13, [2001] at home with his family.

He was born in Chatham, N.Y., on Sept. 15, 1933, the son of the late Hollet T. and Helen D. Hogeboon Knight.

Major Knight received his education at Chatham High School, Fulton-Montgomery Community College and Albany Business College. He was employed by the Department of Taxation and Finance of New York state, and retired after 28 years of service. Major Knight was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Korea from 1953 to 1955. He continued his military career with the U.S. Army Reserve, and retired after 23 years as a master sergeant. He received a commission with the New York National Guard, and at the time of his death held the rank of major.

Major Knight is survived by one son, Terry Knight of Caroga Lake; four daughters, Cindy Barnett of Crofton, Ky., Sharon Alger of Hudson, Lisa Steward of Ghent, and Christy Knight of Caroga Lake; three stepchildren, Robert Klock, Warren Klock and Kimmie Sutton, all of Gloversville; one sister, Alice Powell of Newbern, N.C., one great-grandchild, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Richard Powell, and one sister, Carolyn Pryor.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 Sunday evening at the Riley Mortuary, 110 Division St., Amsterdam. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the mortuary. Interment with full military honors will be at the Richard B. Hogeboon Cemetery, Chatham, N.Y.

Memorial contributions in Major Knight's name may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078, or to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.

Joan Bressard
Joan Ellen Murray Bressard, 62, of Progress Road, Gloversville, passed away on March 30 [2001] at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.

She was born in Gloversville, the daughter of Millard P. and Edna Carr Murray.

Survivors include her husband, Dale Bressard, her children, Kirk Murray, Monique Murray and Tonya Bushnoe and her husband, Douglas, all of Gloversville. One sister, Leanore "Sissy" Love, and her husband, Robert, of Norfolk, N.Y, also survive as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by her mother and father and two brothers, Millard E. Murray and Oland Murray, who died at infancy.

A service was held at Sacred Heart Church in Massena. Burial took place at Calvary Cemetery in Massena. Bearers were

Ed Ashe, William Fox, Robert and Randy Lyons, Milliard Murray Jr. and Mike Snyder.

Ethel M. Brown
Ethel M. Brown, 88, formerly of Steele Avenue, Gloversville, N.Y., passed away Friday, April 6, [2001] at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany, N.Y., where she had resided since May of 1997.

She was born Feb. 9, 1913, in South Glens Falls, N.Y., the daughter of Franklin and Helen Williams Brown. She attended Glens Falls High School.

Ms. Brown was employed at General Electric Co. in Schenectady from 1941 through 1958. From 1958 until her retirement in 1978, she was a dental assistant to Dr. John Liberti in Gloversville. She was of the Protestant faith and was a member and past matron of the St. Monica Chapter No. 486 O.E.S.

She is survived by one daughter, Judith Danelorich of Johnstown; one son, David J. Carter of Gloversville; two grandsons, three granddaughters, one great-grandson, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ehle Funeral Home. Cremation will take place at the Leatherstocking Crematory in Cherry Valley, N.Y.

Mary Bartlett Pitcher
Mary Bartlett Pitcher, formerly of Broadalbin, died Friday afternoon [April 13, 2001] at the Masonic Home in Utica. She was 99.

Born in Broadalbin, she and her late husband were founding members of the Sacandaga Bible Conference. She retired in 1962 from Beechnut Manufacturing as a bookkeeper and then moved to Florida. Mrs. Pitcher returned to this area in 1996. Her husband of 70 years, Lynn Fred Pitcher, died in 1994.

She is survived by her dear sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Compani of Tribes Hill; a nephew, John B. Compani of Amsterdam; and a grandniece and grandnephew.

Services are Monday at 2 p.m. at the Sacandaga Bible Conference, Broadalbin, with the Rev. Herbert Johnson officiating. Entombment will take place Wednesday in Boca Raton, Fla. A calling hour will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the conference chapel. Contributions may be made to the Bible Conference or the Masonic Home in Utica. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Karon Anne McDonald Boland
Karon Anne McDonald Boland, 44, of Latham, passed away Saturday [April 7, 2001] evening at her home after a long illness, surrounded by her family. Karon was born in Lompoc, Calif., and was the daughter of Edward P. McDonald of Jacksonville, Fla., and the late Helen F. Walker McDonald. Karon resided in the Latham area with her family most of her life. She enjoyed a summer home in Sacandaga Park in the Adirondacks. Karon graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with an associate degree in respiratory therapy. She completed her clinical internship at Albany Medical Center. She loved horses, dogs and community theater. One of her community theater groups was the Ice and Fire Theater Group, where as a cast member of "Take a Number Darling," she performed before the President of Iceland, the U.S. Ambassador, the Russian Ambassador and their guests. She was a collector of strays, both people and animals, taking in anyone or anything that needed love. She was affectionately referred to as "Mama B" by many.

She is survived by her husband, Henry T. Boland; three daughters, Kathleen Mary of Cohoes, Moira Cabrini and Meghann Bridget, both of Latham; one son, Henry Thomas Jr., of Latham; two grandchildren, Shane John Boland and Kalista Mae Mayo; four brothers, Edward P. McDonald Jr., of New Berne, N.C., Richard T. McDonald of Dallas, Texas, Michael E. McDonald of Lawton, Okla., and Kevin A. McDonald of Las Vegas, Nev.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Karon was predeceased by a daughter, Karon Kelly.

Calling hours will be fro 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Route 155-south of Central Ave). Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Troy. Interment will be St. Peter's Cemetery in Troy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Upstate New York/Vermont Chapter, 6 Automation Lane, Albany, NY 12205, in memory of Karon A. Boland.

Dorothy M. Crowter Cirillo
Mrs. Dorothy M. Crowter Cirillo, 92, died Monday [April 9, 2001] at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home in Gloversville, where she had resided for the past one and one-half years.

She was born on July 29, 1908 in Fonda, the daughter of John and Ida Sutliff Crowter. A lifelong Gloversville resident, she was a glove worker at Joseph Bovee Glove Co., Acme Glove Co. and Principe Glove Co., and retired from Perrella Glove Company. She was also a union shop steward.

Mrs. Cirillo was a member of the former First Baptist Church, Eagles Auxiliary, and Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Club, all of Gloversville.

She was married to Peter Cirillo on Aug. 18, 1943. He died on Feb. 16, 1990. She is survived by her children, Patricia J. Bender and Peter Cirillo Jr., both of Johnstown; her step-children, Joseph Cirillo, Frank Cirillo and Connie Simonds, all of Gloversville, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sons, Stewart Hillman Jr. and Leon Hillman, and also by nine brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Farmer, pastor of the Fremont Street United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eagles Aerie Youth Fund, Gloversville, or to the charity of one's choice.

John H. Mycek
Mr. John J. Mycek, 75, of Manny Corners Road, Amsterdam, died Sunday evening [April 8, 2001] at home, following a long illness.

He was born Aug. 15, 1925 in Amsterdam, a son of the late Anthony and Anna Bialon Mycek. He was a graduate of St. Stanislaus School and the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Class of 1943. He received his undergraduate degree from Siena College in 1949. He then received his L.L.B. from St. John's University in 1952 and his Juris Doctor in 1968.

He served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific from 1943-46. He was admitted to practice in New York state courts in 1952. He served in professional capacity as attorney for the former Enlarged City School District of Amsterdam and for the Montgomery County Democratic Committee, as director of the American Red Cross, director and vice president of the Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce, member and vice president of the board of education, director of the Cancer Fund, and was a member of the Montgomery County and New York State bar associations.

In 1954, he was a candidate for the office of mayor in the city of Amsterdam. In 1987, former Gov. Mario Cuomo appointed him judge of the Montgomery County Surrogate Court. In November of that year he was elected judge and held office until his retirement in 1995.

He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Locally, he was also a member of Elks Lodge 101, Polish-American Veterans, John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701, Polish National Alliance and many other organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Gilda Ciotto Mycek, whom he married on October 7, 1972; five sons, Dr. John Anthony Mycek of Gloversville, Stephen Lawrence Mycek of Gloversville, William Harvey Mycek of Amsterdam, Anthony Joseph Mycek of Manahawken, N.J., and David Arthur Mycek of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Sister Mary Angelica, of Enfield, Conn. and Jane M. Garratt of Amsterdam; 10 grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by a brother, Rev. Anthony Mycek, in 1964.

Calling hours are from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street. The funeral will be conducted at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the Sisters of St. Felix of Cantalice (Felicians) 1315 Enfield St., Enfield, CT 06082.
