Harriet M. Sweeney
Harriet M. Sweeney, 105, a former resident of Second Street, Gloversville, died Monday, April 9 [2001], at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home after a long illness. She had been a resident at the nursing home since March 1, 1998.

She was born on May 20, 1895 and was a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School and the former Gloversville Business School.

Mrs. Sweeney was employed as a bookkeeper with several local glove companies including the former Louis Myers and Son and Schrecker Glove Company of Gloversville.

She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church and its Rosary Society, and a member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens, both of Gloversville.

She was the wife of the late Walter Sweeney. Survivors include two nephews, Frank E. and Robert J. Sweeney; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, William E. Sr. and Mary C. Quinn Christie, and one brother, William Christie.

Calling hours will be private and at the convenience of the family. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. The Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor, will officiate. Internment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church building fund. arrangements are by the John W. Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville.

Eleanor Alice Dillenbeck
Mrs. Eleanor Alice Dillenbeck, 73, of 526 Hard Scrabble Road, Little Falls, died Monday [April 9, 2001] at home after a brief illness.

She was born on Aug. 21, 1927, in Little Falls, the daughter of Lottie Mae Sleezer Keyser of Dolgeville and the late John P. Baicar. Her marriage to William K. Dillenbeck took place on June 27, 1948, in Dolgeville.

As a partner with her husband and a mother to her children, Eleanor enjoyed her family and duties on the family farm for her entire life. She enjoyed operating her tractor on the farm, along with reminiscing with her grandchildren about many different stories of her childhood. She especially enjoyed her family life and raising their 10 lovely children.

Eleanor was a member of the Lotville Grange, a life member of Salisbury Ridgerunners Snowmobile Club and a life member of Ohio Ridgerunners Club. Her special interests were her family along with hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, cooking, canning, gardening, singing and playing the guitar.

She is survived by her devoted husband, William, of 53 years; her mother, Lottie Mae Keyser of Dolgeville; her children and their wives and husbands, June E. and James Salamone of Little Falls, John W. and Katherine Dillenbeck of Fairfield, William F. and Ruth Dillenbeck, Susan M. Mosher, Keith A. Dillenbeck and Diane Abele, Kevin J. and Marianne Dillenbeck, Mark J. and Christine Dillenbeck, all of Little Falls, Robert A. Dillenbeck of Boston, Mass., Kim R. and Richard Lindsay of Little Falls and Kay E. and James Lipice of Newville; a sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Calvin Ellis of Dolgeville, a stepbrother and sister-in-law, George and Marion Keyser of Little Falls; a sister-in-law, Dorothy E. Rantanen; her grandchildren, John, James, Lisa, Bernadette Salamone, John Michael and Tammy Dillenbeck, Craig and Crystal Dillenbeck, Steven and Richard Mosher, Matt and Sara Abele, Daniel and Elizabeth Dillenbeck, Tricia and Rebecca Dillenbeck, David, Amy, Donald, Jennifer Maxwell; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, John Baicar, and her stepfather, Ellery Keyser.

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts-Buck Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Prospect Street, Herkimer. The Rev. William H. Otis will officiate. Burial will take place later at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. Memorials may be sent to the Ohio or Salisbury Ridgerunners Clubs in her memory.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. Russell and Lorna Zelman for all their kindness and assistance during her illness, and a special thanks to her daughter Kim and her grandson David for their hours of help and care for my wife and our mother.

Alden D. Wheeler Sr.
Alden D. Wheeler Sr., 78, of Newport, Pa., died Monday afternoon [April 9, 2001] at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

He was born on Sept. 16, 1922, in Gloversville, the son of Harland and Linda Dennie Wheeler. He graduated from Northville Central School. He had been residing in Pennsylvania the last 10 years.

He was a Navy World War II veteran.

He was employed at the former Oneida Market as manager in Northville, Wells, Speculator and Gloversville. He last was employed as a printer by The Leader-Herald, Gloversville.

He was a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Northville Presbyterian Church.

His wife, the former Frances Wilson, is deceased.

Survivors include two sons, Alden D. Wheeler Jr. of Newport, Pa., and John Wheeler of Johnstown; one daughter, Patricia Pagano of Middletown, Pa.; one sister, Lois Reece of Northville; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Spring burial will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.

Joseph C. Brunetto
Joseph C. "Joe" Brunetto, of 1915 Cherokee Road, Waynesboro, Va., died Sunday, April 1, [2001] at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville, Va.

He was born in Johnstown, the first son of Joseph and Antoinette Ruggeri Brunetto. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

He retired from General Electric Co. with 30 years of distinguished service.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Waynesboro.

Survivors are his wife, Clara S. Brunetto; a daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and Joe Dotterer of Haymarket, Va.; two sons and their wives, Joseph R. and Vicki Brunetto of Columbia, S.C. and Tony and Robin Brunetto of Coral Springs, Fla.; a sister, Grace B. Whelan of Hutchinson Island, Fla.; Joe's brother and his wife, Carl A. and Carol Brunetto of Annapolis, Md.; and five grandchildren, Toni Dotterer, Courtney Dotterer, Corey Brunetto, Kristen Brunetto and Joey Brunetto.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at McDow Funeral Home, 1701 W. Main St., Waynesboro, Va. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church. The Rev. William O'Brien will officiate. Interment will take place at Augusta Memorial Park with honors conducted by Stuarts Draft Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9339. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Catholic Church Foodbasket, 344 Maple Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980.

Michael McFadden
Michael McFadden, 78, of McMartin Street, Johnstown, died Tuesday, April 3, [2001] at home after a long illness.

He was born on Aug. 27, 1922 in New York City, the son of Michael and Elizabeth Carrol McFadden.

He served in the Army Air Force during World War II in the 365 Bomb Squadron in central Europe, Normandy and northern France.

He worked for 18 years as a New York City police officer and received the medal of valor. He retired in 1973.

He married Vivian Trombley on July 29, 1946.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Trombley McFadden of Johnstown; two sons, Michael McFadden of Greenwich, N.Y. and Jon McFadden of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Judy Bandura of Newburgh, N.Y. and Denise Wren of Goshen, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Maureen, Jamie, Kelly, Sarah, Hannah, Madison, Brian and Jimmy; and two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Darien.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown. The Rev. R.W. Williams, chaplain of Mountain Valley Hospice, will officiate. Cremation took place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or charity of one's choice.

Carmella R. Rose
Carmella R. Rose, 88, a former resident of Orange Street, Gloversville, and Trackside Apartments, Johnstown, died April 3 [2001] at Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville, after a brief illness. She had been a resident there since May 23, 2000.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1913 in Gloversville and was a lifelong area resident. She attended Gloversville schools.

Mrs. Rose was employed as a glove maker with several local glove companies and last for the Grandoe Glove Corporation of Gloversville. She retired in 1975.

She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church of Gloversville. She was a member of the senior citizens of Gloversville and Johnstown.

She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Rose, whom she married on Sept. 1, 1935 and he died Oct. 16, 1989. She was the loving mother of Fulton County Republican chairman and city of Gloversville Councilman Michael A. Rose and Barbara A. DiGiacomo, both of Gloversville. She was the sister of Salvatore "John" DelSavio of Gloversville. Mrs. Rose was the beloved grandmother of Matthew M., Christopher J. and Joshua T. Rose of Gloversville, Carmella A. Shane and Dominick J. DiGiacomo Jr., also of Gloversville, and Joseph C. DiGiacomo of Broadalbin. Also survived by eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Rose was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Julia Luizzi DelSavio, and brothers, Joseph and James DelSavio.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at John W. Finocan Funeral Home Inc., 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. Prayer services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church. The Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor, will be celebrant. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, 847 Route 122, Gloversville, NY 12078-6413 or Wells House Adult Day Care, 201 W. Madison Ave., Johnstown, NY 12095.

Walter E. Short
Mr. Walter E. Short, 91, of Fort Collins, Colo., passed away March 27 [2001] at Fort Collins Assisted Living Center, where he resided.

He was born on March 24, 1910 in Honesdale, Pa., the son of Edwin Franklin and Augusta Schroeder Short. Mr. Short was a long-time resident of Johnstown before he moved to Fort Collins four years ago.

Mr. Short taught art in the Johnstown school system and served as principal of Knox Junior High School. He was an extraordinary gardener, artist and wood carver.

On Aug. 3, 1940, Mr. Short was united in marriage to the former Margaret Briggs Wells, who passed away Aug. 3, 1996. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy A. Short of Fort Collins. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas Edward Short.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. April 6 at New Mercer Commons in Fort Collins. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Larimer, Colo.
