Ruth Sothern Steenburgh Goebel
Mrs. Ruth Sothern Steenburgh Goebel, age 81, of Clyde Street, Gloversville, died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital. She had been a resident of Pineview Commons Home for Adults in Johnstown for the past year.

Mrs. Goebel was born on Oct. 7, 1919 in Brooklyn, the daughter of LeRoy and Ruth Vincent Sothern. She was a 1936 graduate of Gloversville High School and attended Albany Business College.

She was employed as a secretary by the former Frank and Trombley Insurance Agency for many years. She also worked with the Gloversville YMCA Building Fund.

Mrs. Goebel was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church, Tryon Doll Club, Insurance Women of Fulton County, the Couples Club of the Fremont Street United Methodist Church, and the Chat-A-While Club.

She was married to Albert V. Steenburgh on April 4, 1942, who died Oct. 27, 1978. She was married later to Robert H. Goebel on Dec. 17, 1983, who died on June 5, 1996.

Survivors include her son, Ret. Naval Cmdr. Frederick L. Steenburgh of Spring, Texas; her daughter, Janice S. O'Regan of Johnstown; her grandchildren, Christina Taylor of Houston, Texas, Lori McCoy and Larry O'Regan of Johnstown and Amy O'Regan of Pontiac, Mich.; her great-granddaughter, Breana McCoy of Johnstown; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her brother, Jackson L. Sothern predeceased her.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Dr. Alan C. Rhodes, will officiate. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY. 12078 or the American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Ave., Albany, NY 12205.

William F. Ward
Mr. William F. Ward, age 78, of Route 110, Broadalbin, died Monday at home following a long illness.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1922 in Gloversville, the son of Eurben "Derb" and Ruth Oathout Ward. Mr. Ward graduated from Gloversville High School in 1942, where he was a three-sport athlete. He then enlisted in the Marine Corps; and saw action in the Pacific during World War II. He was discharged in 1946, and enrolled in Springfield College as a physical education major. After graduation, he joined the New York Giants football organization, where he played in their Paterson, N.J. farm team. He later became physical director at the Atlantic City YMCA for five years, and coached basketball and baseball at Cornwall Central School. He returned to Fulton County and taught at Meco, Ephratah, Mayfield, and Perth, then at Estee Junior High School for three years. He then became varsity football coach at Gloversville High School, later becoming the track, junior varsity basketball and bowling coach at various times for a total of 24 years in the Gloversville school system. During his 11 years as football coach for the Huskies, they won five titles, three in the old Western Conference and two in the Foothills Council.

Mr. Ward was a member of Broadalbin United Methodist Church, the Broadalbin American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts and a former member of the Kennyetto Masonic Lodge in Broadalbin. He was a life member of both the New York State Teachers Association and the Section II Athletic Commission. He served as the Broadalbin Youth Commission director during the 1960s and 1970s.

He was married on May 22, 1944 to Beverly Garrett, who died Aug. 17, 1998. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Oathout Ward of Amsterdam; five sons. William Jeffery Ward of Owego, Paul G. Ward, Bart S. Ward, Christopher S. Ward and Michael B. Ward, all of Broadalbin; three daughters, Carla L. Gottbehut of Johnstown, Michele R. Hinkle of Fonda and Misty L. Palella of Florida; his sister, Betty Tretola of Gloversville; 14 grandchildren, one nephew; one niece and several cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Scott Ward; his grandson, Garrett Ward; and his brother, Robert J. Ward.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Herbert Johnson and the Rev. Patricia Bush will officiate. Interment will take place at a late date at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, or the American Red Cross, Fulton County Chapter, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, or the Springfield College Alumni, 263 Alden St; Springfield, Mass. 01109-3997.

Thomas Novosel
Thomas Novosel, 86, of Route 8, Speculator, passed away on April 1, 2001 after a long illness.

Mr. Novosel was born on Jan. 2, 1915 in Kane, Pa. He was the son of Nick and Barbra Balban Novosel.

Thomas was a lifelong lumberman, starting his own lumber company, Novosel Lumber, with his wife in 1944. He and his wife owned and operated Oak Mountain Ski Center, and built and operated Silver Bells Ski Center. He was a storyteller, inventor and avid gardner.

He was a member of the Northern Pulpwood Association, the NE Loggers Association, the Elks, the New York State Ski Area Operators Association, the Speculator Fire Department, and St. James Catholic Church in Lake Pleasant.

Mr. Novosel is survived by Emelia Yansick Novosel, wife of 57 years, of Speculator, N.Y. Four daughters, Nancy Germain of Speculator and her husband Norman; Rosemarie Sniezyk of Pittsfield, Mass. and her husband John; Jennifer Novosel of Delmar, N.Y. and Kathleen Novosel Diedrich of Saratoga, N.Y. and her husband Peter. Seven grandchildren include Tom, Erik, Ryan and Shannon Germain, Sarah Sniezyk, Ben and Mia Diedrich, and one great-grandson, Thomas Germain. Thomas is predeceased by brothers, Steve Novosel, Carl Novosel, John Novosel and Joseph Novosel and is survived by brothers, Nick and Frank Novosel of Kane, Pa. and George Novosel of State College, Pa. He is also survived by sisters, Rose Lundeen, Mary Ilebda and Millie Kocjarcie of Kane, Pa. and Ann Huntsinger of Hot Springs, Ark. Several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today at St. James Major Church, Lake Pleasant, where a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Spring burial will take place at Airdville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, St. James Church or Speculator Ambulance Corps. Arrangements are by the Northville Funeral Service Inc.

Filomena Anadio Precopia
Filomena "Phyllis" Anadio Precopia, age 83, of Johnstown, entered into eternal rest on Sunday April 1, 2001 at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.

She was born on July 7, 1917 in Gloversville and was a lifelong area resident.

Mrs. Precopia worked as a glove maker for the former Denkerts Sporting Goods Inc., Johnstown, and Johnstown Knitting. She retired in 1983.

She was the wife of the late John Precopia Sr.; loving mother and mother-in-law of John Precopia Jr. of Johnstown; Joseph and Janice Precopia of Albany, Joan Ann and Skip Nickel of Alplaus, N.Y., James and Debra Precopia of Johnstown. Mrs. Precopia was the beloved grandmother of Jennifer and Mark Hale of Saratoga Springs; Kevin Nickel of Portland, Ore.; Joseph and Melissa Precopia of East Greenbush; Melissa and Andrew Harrison of Attleboro, Mass., Jamie Precopia of Johnstown and great-grandmother of Samuel Hale of Saratoga Springs. She was the sister of Benjamin Anadio, Carmella Martin, Peter Anadio. She was the sister-in-law of Ann Anadio, Antoinette Anadio, Barbara Anadio and Anthony Avellino. She is survived by her "special" niece, Jackie Boles of Gloversville, and many nephews and nieces.

She is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Theresa Anadio; brothers, Anthony Anadio, Joseph Anadio, Dominic Anadio; and her sisters, Belle Nichols, Lucy Murdico and Theresa Avellino.

There will be no calling hours. A prayer service will be held at 9: 30 a.m. Wednesday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Warren Street, Johnstown. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will take place in the spring at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all the nursing staff of Nathan Littauer Hospital and all the nurses and aides that took care of Mrs. Precopia at home for all their care, kindness and support for their mother during her illness.

Jacqueline Yacobucci Sinnott
Jacqueline Yacobucci Sinnott, 62, of Fanlew, Fla., died Monday, March 26, [2001] in Tallahassee, Fla.

She was a native of Gloversville. She lived in Crawfordville, Fla. before she moved to Fanlew three years ago.

She was a home health care nurse.

She attended St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Crawfordville.

Survivors include her husband, Edward C. Sinnott of Fanlew; two sons, Christian C. Tanner of Fanlew and Timothy Moran of Gloversville; two daughters, Kathy and Libby, both of Canada; and one brother, Bob Yacobucci of Gloversville.

Services were held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Beggs Funeral Home Apalachee Parkway Chapel, Tallahassee.

Nellie F. Kubric Gill
Mrs. Nellie F. Kubric Gill, age 95, formerly of East Boulevard, Gloversville, died Tuesday evening.

Mrs. Gill was born on July 23, 1905 in Gloversville, the daughter of Ivan and Yelka Yambrovic Kubric. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School and was employed for many years by Fulton County area attorneys as a court stenographer.

A member of Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville, and its Rosary Society, she was well-known for traveling around the community on her three-wheeled cycle. She made annual cycle trips to Martyrs' Shrine in Auriesville. Mrs. Gill was also a member of The Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha League.

Mrs. Gill married Frederic J. Gill on Feb. 14, 1928 and he died May 7, 1963. She is survived by four daughters, Andree Moore of Tucson, Ariz., MarySue Johnson of Saratoga Springs, Pamela Gill of West Bloomfield, Mich. and Nella Ponazecki of New York City. Her surviving grandchildren are Pamela Schroer, Deborah Weekes, Jeanne Katz, William Moore Jr., Michael M. Moore, Stanley Johnson Jr., Thomas Johnson, Michael Johnson, Joseph Johnson and Jay Ponazecki. There are also 13 great-grandchildren; who survive. She was predeceased by her brothers, Frank Kubric, Paul Kubric, and her sisters, Eva Kubric and Rose Kubric.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. Prayers will be said at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed at 11:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial at Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. The Rev. David L. Tressic, pastor, as celebrant. Spring interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Martyrs' Shrine, 136 Shrine Road, Auriesville, NY 12016.

Marion K. Blatchford
Mrs. Marion K. Blatchford, age 78, died Wednesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital. She had been a resident of the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville, for eight years.

Mrs. Blatchford was born on Dec. 24, 1922 in Greenwich, the daughter of William and Marion Ryan Kenny. After residing in New Rochelle, Mrs. Blatchford owned and operated The Pub in Wells for about 10 years, then moved to Gloversville in 1975. She owned and operated The Message Center in Gloversville for many years.

She is survived by her sons, James Blatchford of Sacramento, Calif., Paul Blatchford of Mayfield and Christopher Blatchford of Denver, Colo.; also her brothers, William Kenny of Connecticut, Donald Kenny of Gloversville and Jack Kenny of Sun City Center, Fla.; five grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, George Blatchford; and a brother, James Kenny.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. The Rev. R.W. Williams will officiate. Cremation will be in Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to Activities Fund and Physical Therapy Department, Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, 847 County Highway 122, Gloversville, NY 12078.
