Louise P. Phillips
Mrs. Louise "Pat" P. Phillips, 84, formerly of Canajoharie, died Wednesday at Montgomery Meadows, Amsterdam.

She was born on July 31, 1916 in Dublin, Va., the daughter of William A. and Anna Lee Hash Padgett. Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of Radford High School, Virginia, and a 1937 graduate of Radford University with a bachelor's degree in education. She previously lived in Canajoharie and had resided in Amsterdam since 1999.

She served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II as a physical therapist with the rank of first lieutenant.

She previously worked in Martinsville, Va. and Roanoke, Va. She was employed as a special education teacher for Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES in Canajoharie from 1962 until she retired in 1978.

Mrs. Phillips was a member of St. John's-St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Canajoharie; the New York State Retired Teachers Association, the Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association and the American Association of Retired Persons. She was a former chairman of the Arkell Hall Women's Advisory Board, Canajoharie.

She is survived by one son, William P. Phillips of Sprakers; and five grandchildren.

On Jan. 19, 1946, she married John E. "Jack" Phillips Sr., who died on March 8, 1989. She was also predeceased by one son, John E. Phillips Jr., who died on April 26, 1991.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery in the spring. The Rev. Gail R. Wolling, pastor of St. John's-St. Mark's Lutheran Church, will officiate

Ralph W. Skakel Jr.
Mr. Ralph W. Skakel Jr., 93, a native of Johnstown, died Tuesday at Concord Hospital, Concord, N.H.

He was born on Nov. 3, 1907 in Johnstown, the son of Ralph W. and Gertrude Loucks Skakel Sr. Mr. Skakel was a graduate of Johnstown High School.

He was employed for 32 years as a supervisor for General Telephone Co. of Upstate New York in Johnstown. He then worked for 10 years as a plant maintenance supervisor at the former Fulton County Infirmary.

Mr. Skakel was of the Protestant faith. He was a life member and past president of the Pine Tree Rifle Club, Gloversville; a member of area snowmobile clubs and a life member of the New York State Snowmobile Association. He served as a representative for the New York State Snowmobile Council.

Survivors include his wife, the former Bettye Fear, whom he married on Nov. 25, 1942; two daughters, Cheryl Barnard of Claremont, N.H. and Barbara Plantz of Scotia; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, Floyd Skakel; one sister, Ruth Frederick; and one granddaughter, Jessica Barnard.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown.

Conrad Warner
Mr. Conrad "Cooney" Warner, 94, a former resident of Amsterdam, died Wednesday [24 Jan 2001] at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in that city.

He was born on Dec. 31, 1906 in Germany and moved to Amsterdam as a young child. Mr. Warner attended area schools and was a lifelong area resident.

He was employed for many years as a superintendent at the former Mohasco Industries, Amsterdam, retiring on Jan. 1, 1971. He then worked as a greenskeeper for the Antlers Country Club, Fort Johnson.

Mr. Warner was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge 101 and the Kiwanis Club, which he served as treasurer for a number of years. He was a member of the Antlers Country Club and the former Huricanna Club.

He was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a referee throughout the area and was a swimming instructor at Amsterdam YMCA.

Survivors include his wife, the former Thelma Lord, whom he married on April 26, 1941; one daughter, Linda Franz of Vero Beach, Fla.; one half brother, Stanley Kruczynski of Amsterdam; one grandson; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and one great-nephew.

A calling hour will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Della May Cady
Mrs. Della May (Baker) Cady, 75, of Harrison Street, Gloversville, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, Gloversville, following a short illness.
She was born on Aug. 29, 1926, in Johnstown, the daughter of George and Katherine Schemerhorn Baker.

Vernon Cosselman
Vernon Cosselman, 85, of County Highway 112, Bleecker, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at home.
He was born February 6, 1917, in Johnstown, the son of Floyd and Emma LaGrange Cosselman. He served in the Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He was employed at the former Garlock's Garage as a mechanic for 13 years, and later was a co-owner and operator of the former Vern & Dutch Service Station on E. Fulton Street in Gloversville for 21 years until his retirement in 1979.

Ann Lesperance
Ann Rebisz Lesperance, 82, of Broadalbin, NY, died Friday, May 31, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY.
She was born February 7, 1920, in Garfield, NJ, the daughter of Martin and Mary Wyka Rebisz. She attended Christian School for two years before moving to Broadalbin, where she attended Broadalbin Central School.

Walletta Sweet
Mrs. Walletta Sweet, 87, of Irish Settlement Road, Dolgeville, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, Gloversville, after a short illness.
She was born on March 15, 1915, in Johnstown, the daughter of Clifford and Leafa Nolan Van Alstyne.
