Robert J. Smith
Mr. Robert J. Smith, 58, of Gloversville, N.Y., died suddenly Friday, May 28, 2002, at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
He was born September 20, 1943, in Holyoke, MA, the son of Irving and Margaret Gifford Smith and was a 1961 graduate of Gloversville High School.
He retired last year as a Battalion Chief of Gloversville Fire Dept., where he had served for 34 years.

Elizabeth Velicky Empey
Mrs. Elizabeth Velicky Empey, 78, of N. Market St., Johnstown, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam.
She was born July 12, 1923, in Johnstown, the daughter of Michael and Anna Hladik Velicky.
She graduated from Johnstown High School and lived in Johnstown most of her life.
She owned and operated the former Tomba, Victory and Empey's Restaurants, all located in Johnstown.

Pernie Hope Frasier
Pernie Hope Frasier, 80, of Northville Rd., Edinburg, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital after a sudden illness.
She was born in Edinburg, NY, July 6, 1921, the daughter of Harvey and Anna Hope Simpson.
She attended schools in Edinburg and graduated from Northville Central School in 1940.
She owned and operated a Gulf station with her husband for 28 years.
She served as a postmaster and clerk in charge of the Edinburg Post Office, retiring in 1976.
Mrs. Frasier wintered in St. Cloud, FL, (Mark Park) for 26 years.
She was a member of the Edinburg Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the finance committee of the church.
She was also a member of the Sacandaga Grange, Edinburg Historical Society and the Edinburg Senior Citizens.
She served as an election inspector for many years.
She also loved her dog Mitzi.
Her husband, Charles L. Frasier, whom she married December 28, 1940, died January 5, 1997.

Betty Leonard Ginter
Mrs. Betty Leonard Ginter, 75, of Heritage Village, Gerry, NY, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at the Heritage Village Health Center.
She was born November 11, 1926, in Adams Basin, NY, the daughter of Benjamin and Blanche Barney Leonard.
A longtime resident of Mayfield, she has resided in Gerry the past two years.
Betty enjoyed playing the piano and the French horn.
She was involved in Fulton County Farm Bureau, the Mineral Club and the Fulton County Doll Club.
She collected dolls and miniatures and has won ribbons at the state fair for her collectables.
She and her husband processed and sold maple syrup at the Tamarack Bird and Wildlife Museum, which they operated prior to Mr. Ginter's death.

Marshall B. "Mickey" Gottung
Mr. Marshall B. "Mickey" Gottung, 73, of Sixth Avenue, Gloversville, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at home.
He was born Sept. 6, 1928, in Fort Plain, the son of Marshall and Beatrice Barker Gottung.
A 1948 graduate of Gloversville High School, Mr. Gottung was formerly a co-owner of Cro-Sen Cleaners in Gloversville.
He was a volunteer for the Fulton County Meals on Wheels Program for many years.
He coached American Legion Baseball and was co-founder of the Meco Softball League.
He was a basketball game scorekeeper for the former Bishop Burke High School from 1967 until it closed.
He then kept score at the Gloversville High School basketball games until his illness this past year.
He received a Lifetime Membership Award from the Gloversville PTA in 1998. Mr. Gottung served for 16 years on the Gloversville Board of Water Commissioners.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and its Holy Name Society and the Gloversville Lions Club.
On Nov. 6, 1948, he was married to Phyllis M. LeVarn, who survives.
Additional survivors include his son, Gregory M. Gottung, and his wife, Carole, of Gloversville; his daughter, Catherine J. Hogan and her husband, Charles, of Lyndonville; his son, John A. Gottung of Pittsfield, Mass.; his daughter, Carol A. Brown and her husband, Steven, of Ballston Spa; his son, James M. Gottung and his wife, Jill, of Stoner Lake; his 10 grandchildren, Marshall B. Gottung, Beth Gottung, Meghan Hogan, Daniel Hogan, Jonathan Gottung, Matthew Gottung, Catherine Saltsman, Scott Brown, Emma Gottung and Abigail Gottung; a nephew, Richard Russo, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Gottung was predeceased by his grandson, Christopher.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville.
The Rev. David L. Tressic will be the celebrant.
Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.
They also operated The Green Acres Farm in Mayfield.

Armand Henault Jr.
Armand Henault Jr., 67, of Fort Johnson, NY, died March 16, 2002 at Carolinas Medical Center after a short illness.
He is survived by his wife, Garry Ten Eycke Henault; a son, Peter Henault of St. Marys, Georgia; a daughter, Margaret Papadakis of Charlotte, NC and two grandchildren, Ivan Henault and Arianna Papadakis.

Richard E. Loeben
Richard E. Loeben, 78, of 77 Catherine Street, Fort Ann, died at Saratoga Hospital, Monday, May 27, 2002.
Born in Gloversville, Sept. 2, 1923, he was the son of Richard and Anna (Schreckenberger) Loeben.

Evelyn M. Gifford Hare
Mrs. Evelyn M. Gifford Hare, 98, of State Highway 30, Mayfield, died Saturday, May 25, 2002 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
She was born December 1, 1903, in Johnny Cake Hollow in the town of Northampton, the daughter of Fred and Hattie Collins Gifford.
She was employed in her younger years as a glove maker by the former Wilkins Glove Company of Mayfield, and was a motor route driver for the former Schenectady Union Star for 17 years.

Katherina 'Kitty' Whittle
Katherina "Kitty" Whittle, 85, of Seven Hills Rd., Northville, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at home, following a long illness.
She was born September 16, 1916 in Commack, Long Island.
She attended schools on Long Island and was employed as a secretary by the Hazeltine Corp. in Huntington, Long Island, for many years.
Mrs. Whittle was also a caregiver.
