Marie Pollak
Mrs. Marie I. Pollak, 82, of Irving Street, Johnstown, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville, following a long illness.
She was born on Dec. 13, 1918, in Gloversville, the daughter of Frank and Jenny Papa Izzo.
Mrs. Pollak was employed with several local glove companies until her retirement.
Survivors include her husband, Matthew F. Pollak, whom she married on March 2, 1946; one daughter, Patricia A. Grey of St. Johnsville; two sons, Matthew R. Pollak of St. Johnsville and John F. Pollak of New Hartford; one brother, Robert Izzo of Ephratah; one sister, Rose Calhoun of Gloversville; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son, Robert J. Pollak, who died in 1991.
Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Church, Nicholas St., Johnstown, with the Rev. James Fitzmaurice as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Johnstown.

Rose Curcio
Miss Rose Curcio, 105, formerly of Gloversville, died Saturday morning at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, where she resided since 1989. Born in Gloversville on July 23, 1896, the daughter of Antonio and Antoinette Del Negro Curcio, she was one of 15 children.
A lifelong area resident and a graduate of Gloversville Business School, she was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper at the former Hilts Willard Glove Manufacturers in Gloversville until her retirement at the age of 75.
Miss Curcio was a lifetime member of the Ancient Order of Foresters- Court Mayflower, an avid bridge and bingo player and a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church. Rose devoted herself to her siblings and their children and will be remembered as an energetic and dedicated woman who contributed to the greater good. She was the embodiment of strength, love for life and beauty of the human spirit. At the time of her death, she was the oldest resident at the Fulton County Health Care Facility.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at the Amico Funeral Home, 150 S. Main St., Gloversville, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility.

Evelyn Elmendorf Ashe Bohne
Mrs. Evelyn Elmendorf Ashe Bohne, 83 of Broad Street, Gloversville, died Sunday, October 7, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. She was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Friday,
She was born on Dec. 10, 1917 in Gloversville, the daughter of George and Marjorie Managun Elmendorf. A graduate of Gloversville High School, she was later employed at the Robison & Smith, Martin & Naylor, and Park Snow companies. She and her husband then owned and operated the former Littauer Home For Adults for many years.
Mrs. Bohne was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, where she was a past president of the Rosary Society, and a member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Club. She was married to John J. Ashe on May 6, 1938. He died March 20, 1981. She later married Melvin F. Bohne on August 5, 1989. He died on April 6, 1994.
She was the beloved mother of her son Gary Ashe and his wife Joyce, her daughter Janice Hanifin and her husband Daniel, and her son James Ashe and his wife Michelle, all of Gloversville. She is also survived by her stepsons Melvin Brent Bohne and his wife Barbara of Woodridge, Va. and Brian Bohne and his wife Judy of Collins, N.Y. Other survivors include her brothers Harold Elmendorf of Maples, Fla. and Richard Elmendorf of Gloversville; grandsons John Hanifin, Bristol, Conn., David Hanifin, Hyde Park, Mass., Daniel Patrick Hanifin, Albany, N.Y., Jeffrey Ashe, Gloversville, James P. Ashe, Johnson City, Tenn.; granddaughters Deborah Ashe and Lissa Henry of Gloversville, step granddaughters Kim Bohne and Denise Bohne; step grandsons Darren Bohne and Jeffrey Bohne. She was predeceased by her brother Donald Elmendorf, her sister Joyce Elmendorf Manzer, and great granddaughter Vivian Hanifin.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Gloversville. The Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Jack A. Hammer
Jack A. Hammer, 69, of White Birch Lane, Indian Lake, died Sunday morning, Oct. 7, 2001 at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on Feb. 10, 1932 in Gloversville, he was the son of Wayne R. and Josephine (Walkins) Hammer. He was a graduate of Wells High School.
Jack served in the U.S. Navy.
He married Evelyn Reynolds on Sept. 12, 1953 in the Grace United Methodist Church parsonage in Speculator.
Jack was employed as a carpenter for George Du Beack Construction in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he was a member of the Carpenters Union.
Jack enjoyed basketball, football, golf, hunting and fishing. He liked baseball and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially Polish Pitch.
Jack was predeceased by one son, Tony Hammer, who died on Aug. 29, 1978, and one brother, Eugene Hammer.
Survivors besides his wife of 48 years include three daughters, Joanne Montgomery and her husband Nick of Schenectady, Connie Burdick and her husband Frank of Rensselaer, Shelly Hammer of Indian Lake; one brother, Robert Hammer, and his wife Pat of Hopkinsville, Ky.; two grandchildren, Jack Montgomery of Schenectady and T.J. Paraso of Cape Cod, Mass.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Indian Lake with the Rev. E. Paul Miller, pastor, officiating.
Burial with full military honors conferred by members of the Parker-Benton American Legion Post 1392, Indian Lake, will be in Cedar River Cemetery, Indian Lake. Following the committal, friends and family are invited to gather at the Parker-Benton American Legion Hall for food and fellowship.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Indian Lake, where members of the Parker-Benton American Legion Post 1392 will conduct services at 7:30 p.m.

Guerina Chiuminato
Mrs Guerina "Rena" Chiuminato, 96, of Moyer Street, Canajoharie died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 at home after a long illness. Mrs. Chiuminato was born in Lorence, Italy on June 1, 1905, the daughter of Pietro and Catterina Pennino Morelli. Mrs. Chiuminato was educated in Italy and West Virginia. She became a United States Citizen in 1922. She was employed by Beech-Nut Company as a machine operator in the candy and baby food processing departments for 28 years, retiring in June 1970.
She resided in the Canajoharie and Sprakers area since 1922. Previously she lived in Italy and West Virginia.
Mrs. Chiuminato was a member of St. Peter's and Paul Church and attended Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Adult Care Center at Arkell Center in Canajoharie,
She married John Chiuminato on April 19, 1922 in Italy. He died on Aug. 30, 1952. .
Mrs. Chiuminato was predeceased by a son, Richard Chiuminato, on Aug. 30, 1999 and by a daughter, Norma Frank, on Feb. 15, 2000. She is survived by 9 grandchildren, Debra McGovern of Fort Plain, Susan Frank of Oakland Park, Fla., Sandra Blackman of West Point, Rena Steenburg of Caroga Lake, Mary Cellary of Gloversville, Pamela Germain of Cameron, N.C., Richard Chiuminato, Melissa Horning, and Donna Rosas of Canajoharie; 17 great-grandchildren, Michael McGovern of Fort Plain, Jeanne Osnes of Yelm, Wash., Kyle Blackman of West Point, Shawn Chiuminato of Pasadena, Md., April and Heather Steenburg of Caroga Lake, Ashley VanWie and Claire Cellary of Gloversville, Jeremy, Aaron and Benjamin Germain of Cameron, N.C., Jacob, Gabrielle and Joseph Horning, Felicia Chiuminato and Bryan and Chelsa Rosas of Canajoharie; two great-great grandchildren, Marshal Osness of Yelm, Wash., and Hope Chiuminato of Pasadena, Md.,and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert F. Wilson
Robert F. Wilson, 67, of Fifth Avenue, Gloversville, died Sunday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a brief illness.
He was born in Gloversville on March 31, 1934, son of the late Harold and Nancy Griffith-Wilson. He was educated in Gloversville and Mayfield schools. Early in his life, he was a meat cutter for the former Acme Market and for the past 40 years he had been president of Duff and Wilson Paving Contractors.
He was a Korean War veteran in the Navy. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Indian Oven Hunting Club in Bleecker.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Duff Wilson; one son, Marcus D. Wilson and his wife Eileen and one granddaughter, Brieanne Wilson, all of Gloversville.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Harold (Dick) Wilson and Howard Wilson. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St.

Helen M. Szumowski
Mrs. Helen M. Szumowski, 78, formerly of Summer Street, Gloversville, died Friday afternoon at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a short illness.
Born on March 11, 1924, Mrs. Szumowski was a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Szumowski was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church.
Survivors include a son, Philip J. Szumowski of Mayfield; two daughters, Paula J. Szumowski of San Diego, Calif., and Mary Donnelly of Gloversville; two sisters, Margaret Rubscha of Gloversville and Patricia Whipple of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren, Kristen M. Riley of Clifton Park and Alissa K. Szumowski of Mayfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the widow of Nicholas J. Szumowski, whom she married on Nov. 8, 1947. He died on May 27, 1998. She was predeceased by her parents, Louis J. and Florence Conrick Donnelly Sr., and brothers, Louis J. Donnelly Jr., John Donnelly and James Donnelly.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home Inc., 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. The Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
