William F. Beyer
William F. "Bud" Beyer, 82, of State Highway 30, Gloversville, died Thursday morning, June 14, 2001, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, where he had been a patient for one week.

He was born in New York City, a son of William and Honora Vail Beyer, and was educated there. He resided in Manhattan and later the Bronx and spent summers upstate since 1974. He moved to the upstate area in 1979. Recently, he had been spending winters in Palmetto, Fla.

Mr. Beyer was a truck driver for Acme Fast Freight of New Jersey. He retired in 1979.

He was a World War II Army veteran and served in the South Pacific.

Mr. Beyer was of the Catholic faith.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Gloversville, a member of the Gloversville Moose Lodge 351, and a member of the Fulton County Sheriff's Association.

He married Angela Lacrignola in April 1943. She died in 1975.

Survivors include his wife, the former Olive Allen Burdett, whom he married on March 24, 1995; a son, Edward Beyer of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; two daughters, Carole Beyer of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Susan Beyer of New York City; a stepdaughter, JoAnn Malik of Gloversville; a brother, Brother Edward T. Beyer of Oradell, N.J.; a sister, Mary Keane of Bayshore, N.Y.; three grandchildren; one niece, two nephews and several cousins.

Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted at the Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, N.Y., at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 W. Main St., Broadalbin.

Paul R. Tice Sr.
Paul R. Tice Sr., 74, of Inlet, N.Y., passed away on June 13, 2001.

He was born Aug. 9, 1926, in Rutland, Vt.

Mr. Tice was a World War II Army veteran.

On July 12, 1948, he married Joyce Weaver. She died in 1995.

Mr. Tice retired from Knight Chemical Co.

Survivors include his daughters, Charlene Tanner of Florida, Ruth A. Rudd of Inlet; a son, Paul R. Tice II of Colorado; a sister, Gloria Wells of Washington state; a brother, Leo Conway of Rochester, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Jessica, Justin and Christina; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Eldridge-Dimbleby Funeral Home, Old Forge, N.Y.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at King Northampton Cemetery, Northville, with the Rev. Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider Inlet Emergency Services, Inlet, N.Y.

Roy Miles
Mr. Roy Miles, 86, of Heagle Road, Johnstown, died Friday, June 8, [2001] at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after being stricken at home.

He was born March 5, 1915, in Scotch Bush, the son of Stephen and Ida Cromer Miles.

Mr. Miles was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, where he served as usher, First Call committee person and member of the men's coffee club. He was also a member of the Johnstown Loyal Order of Moose and a former member of the Adirondack CB club.

He was employed for 33 years as a machinist with the General Electric Co.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Helen Murphy Miles, whom he married Nov. 30, 1935; one son, David Miles of Ballston Spa; one daughter, Sylvia Paraschos of Longmont, Colo.; one sister, Stella Taylor of Gloversville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Mr. Miles was predeceased by four brothers, Emory, Clarence, Clayton and Stephen Miles; three sisters, Harriet Looman, Amanda Weaver and Grace Terranova.

Friends and family are invited to attend funeral services on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church, 1 W. Montgomery St., Johnstown, with the Rev. David Almleaf officiating.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.

Carol Milford
Carol Milford went home to be with the Lord Jesus on June 2, 2001, after a short illness. She died at her home in Morristown. Mrs. Millford was born in Bath, Maine. She graduated from Rockland High School in Maine in 1942. She graduated from the Nursery Training School of Boston, Tufts University, and graduated in 1945. She started her family in Johnstown and lived there from 1958 to 1962. She began her teaching career at the Lillian Wald Preschool, the Lower East Side of Manhattan, for three years. She taught preschool at the Madison Nursery School from 1967 to 1985. She volunteered for 14 years for Meals On Wheels. Carol worked for the Board of Elections of Morris County for many years. Mrs. Milford attended Long Hill Chapel and served on the flower committee, volunteered for the food pantry and clothes closet as well as the nursery.

She loved children, was an avid gardener and a voracious reader.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Robert Jr., and her children, Robert III and wife, Yvonne, of Mentor, Ohio, Susan and her husband, Greg, of Scotia, N.Y., David and his wife, Linda, of Troy, N.Y. and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held for friends and family on July 14 in the Johnstown area.

Contributions may be made in her memory to World Vision, P.O. Box 70200, Tacoma, Wash., 98481-0220 (a children's relief program).

Margaret 'Peg' Wagner
Mrs. Margaret A. "Peg" Wagner, 72, of County Highway 156, Johnstown, died Friday, June 8, 2001 at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, following a long illness.

She was born Feb. 5, 1929, in Gloversville, the daughter of Leslie S. and Rose Diclo Satterlee.

Mrs. Wagner was a member of the Johnstown Reformed Church, where she served as senior elder and church consistory.

She was a homemaker and an amateur artist.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Dr. Richard A. Wagner, whom she married Sept. 2, 1951; two sons, Richard A. Wagner of Worthington, Mass., and Douglas E. Wagner of Johnstown; one daughter, Ann Blackwood of Johnstown; four grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Friends and family are invited to attend memorial services on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the A. G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Jack Millard officiating.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Cremation will be at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Johnstown Reformed Church.

Myrtle 'Myrt' B. Hobbs
Myrtle "Myrt" B. Hobbs, 92, of Vero Beach, Fla., died June 1, 2001, at Indian River Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 6, 1908, in Munnsville, N.Y., and moved to Gloversville, where she married Dallas "Tex" Hobbs. She and her husband moved to Vero Beach from Gloversville about 15 years ago.

Mrs. Hobbs taught the sixth grade at Columbia Elementary School in Gloversville for 40 years prior to her retirement. She was a volunteer for the Indian River Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Vero Beach and for the Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. She was a volunteer teacher's aide for Indian River Country elementary schools. Mrs. Hobbs was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gloversville and later Christ by-the-Sea United Methodist Church in Vero Beach.

She was a graduate of Geneseo State Teachers College.

A memorial service was held in Vero Beach on June 3, and a burial service will be held in Gloversville this summer.

Surviving are one son, Bruce Hobbs of Rockville, Md.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Donations may be made to a children's charity of one's choice in Mrs. Hobbs' memory.

Lois June Hayes Cole
Mrs. Lois June Hayes Cole, age 49, of State Highway 30, Amsterdam, N.Y., died Friday, June 8, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.

She was born June 11, 1951, in Amsterdam, the daughter of William and Elsie Frye Hayes. She lived in Ormond By The Sea, Fla., for 14 years and returned to Amsterdam this past December.

Mrs. Cole was a member of the Johnstown Moose Auxiliary.

She married Sept. 24, 1995, to Richard A. Cole, who survives.

She is also survived by her son, Brian Scott Hayes of Broadalbin; her mother, Elsie Hayes, also of Broadalbin; five sisters, Hazel McKeever of Perth, Cynthia Spencer, Beth Hayes, Susan Serafin and Nancy Leach all of Broadalbin; and six brothers, William Jr., Daniel, Harry, Thomas and John, all of Broadalbin, and David Hayes of Amsterdam; three stepdaughters, Elena Willet of Johnstown, Lori Marshall and Becky Belden, both of Gloversville; one stepson, Robert Cole of Ephratah; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father, William Hayes, and her twin brothers Robert and Richard Hayes.

The family will receive friends and family from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jeffords and Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin. A private service will take place at the convenience of the family at Perth Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Moyer, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
