Charles T. Trippodo
January 1, 2001
Mr. Charles T. Trippodo, 77, formerly of Gloversville, died Saturday at the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.
He was born March 23, 1923, in Gloversville, a son of Salvatore and Rose Flacco Trippodo.
Mr. Trippodo was a lifelong Gloversville resident and a 1941 graduate of Gloversville High School.
He and his family managed The Manor House restaurant in Gloversville for 15 years. He was assistant manager of the former Hippodrome Theater in Gloversville and he and his wife owned The Coffee Shop on North Main Street in Gloversville for many years. He retired in 1985 from the silicone chemical department at General Electric Co. in Waterford after 10 years of service.
He served as a volunteer for many youth organizations and helped develop the athletic programs at the former Bishop Burke Catholic High School. In the early 1940s, he coached several area high school basketball and football teams, including those of Bishop Burke's.
Mr. Trippodo was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in Gloversville, where he was a former Holy Name Society member.
He married Evelyn E. Walker on June 29, 1946. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Ronald Trippodo of Perth and Lawrence Trippodo of Rochester; two daughters, Susan McNeil of Perth and Barbara Burton of Penfield; 11 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Trippodo was predeceased by four brothers, Anthony, Frank, Mario and Ross Trippodo, and two sisters, Eunice and Anna Trippodo.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday. This will be followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will take place in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

Howard F. Barnes

Mr. Howard F. Barnes, 88, of Bolton Landing, Warren County, the father of a Northville resident, died Sunday at Albany Medical Center after a short illness.
He was born on May 1, 1912 in Mechanicville, Saratoga County, the son of Frederick and Virginia Soliere Barnes. He was employed as a machine operator at Hercules, Hudson Falls, Washington County. After he retired, he worked for several years as a caretaker for the Miller Estate, Bolton Landing.
Mr. Barnes was a trustee and member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Bolton Landing, for more than 50 years, beginning in 1935. He was a member of the Bolton Fire Department and served as fire commissioner for 10 years. He was also a member of Civilian Conservation Corps Camp 7, Bolton Landing.
He enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens.
Survivors include two daughters, Gertrude Remington of Brant Lake and Betty Lou DeMatties of Northville; one sister, Josephine Murray of Mechanicville; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
On Sept. 26, 1934, he married the former Verna Dudley, who died on July 24, 1993; two sons, Howard "Bud" Dudley Barnes, who died in 1997, and Earle Frederick Barnes, who died in 1935; and one brother, David Joseph Barnes, who died in 1971.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Stafford Funeral Home, 90 Montcalm St., Lake George, Warren County. A service will be conducted at noon today at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Stewart Avenue, Bolton Landing. The Rev. Dawn Robbins-Wood, pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place in Brant Lake Cemetery, Route 8, Warren County.

Rhoda Landman
January 2, 2001
Miss Rhoda Landman, 67, of Gloversville, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
She was born in New York City, the daughter of Joseph and Pauline River Landman. Miss Landman was educated in New York City.
She was employed by Lexington Day Treatment Center, Gloversville.
There are no known survivors.
She was predeceased by one brother, Jack Landman.
A calling hour will be 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rabbi Martin Gordon of Knesseth Israel Synagogue, Gloversville, will officiate. Burial will take place in Knesseth Israel Cemetery, Gloversville.

Genevieve Dwojakowski Rubinski
January 2, 2001
Mrs. Genevieve "Genia" Dwojakowski Rubinski, 81, of Schenectady, a native of Amsterdam, died Sunday at home after a short illness.
Mrs. Rubinski attended the former Mont Pleasant High School, Schenectady, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was employed at General Electric Co., Schenectady, and the former Campbell Plastics. She later worked as a machine operator at the former Mica Co., Schenectady, during the 1960s and retired from the company.
Mrs. Dwojakowski was a communicant of Church of St. Adalbert, Schenectady, and a member of its Altar Rosary Society and Choral Society for more than 60 years.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin Rubinski, whom she married on June 28, 1958; two sisters, Bernadine Mastroianni and Alfreda Balga, both of Schenectady.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Leszczynski Funeral Home, 716 Crane St., Schenectady, where members of the Altar Rosary and Choral Society will meet at 7 p.m. for a service. A service will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At 9 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Church of St. Adalbert, Schenectady. Burial will take place in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Rotterdam.

Kassian Semczuk
January 2, 2001
Mr. Kassian Semczuk, 76, of Amsterdam, died Monday at home.
He was born on July 24, 1924 in Novaky, Ukraine, where he received his education. Mr. Semczuk had resided in Amsterdam since 1949.
He was first employed by the former Mohasco Corporation, Amsterdam. He worked for many years as a carpenter at General Electric Co., Schenectady, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Semczuk was a master wood carver and a member of the European guilds. He was a member of the Amsterdam Bicentennial Committee and constructed a prize-winning windmill for the celebration. He also provided carvings for churches and institutions.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Troy, where he was vice president at one time. He was also a member of the Ukrainian-American Citizens Club, Amsterdam, and the Ukrainian National Association Branch 266 and IUE Local 301, Schenectady.
Survivors include his wife, the former Olga Kaluk, whom he married on Oct. 2, 1945; two sons, John Semczuk of Amsterdam and Roman Semczuk of Perth; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam with Parastas at 7 p.m. A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Dorothy Mead Wilhelm
January 2, 2001
Mrs. Dorothy Mead Wilhelm, 93, of Schoharie, the mother of a Northville resident, died Saturday at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam.
She was born in Schoharie and was educated in Middleburgh, Schoharie County. Mrs. Wilhelm had resided at the facility since November 1999.
She was employed as a home health aide many years ago. She was also a homemaker.
Mrs. Wilhelm was a member of Schoharie Reformed Church and a former member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Middleburgh.
Survivors include four daughters, Jeanne VanDenburg of Schenectady, June Vrooman of Northville, Janice Baker of Poughkeepsie and Jacquelyn Sackett of Sheboygan, Wis.; one son, R. Christopher Wilhelm of Schenectady; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Langan Funeral Home, 227 Main St., Schoharie. A service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Lutheran Cemetery, Schoharie.

John Alfred Betcher
January 3, 2001
Mr. John "Jack" Alfred Betcher, 83, of Canajoharie, died Sunday at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, after a long illness.
He was born on June 7, 1917 in Burlington, Vt., the son of Col. Alfred John and Olive Lucile Cook Betcher. Mr. Betcher graduated from Canajoharie schools. He attended Kew Forest Prep School, Kew Gardens, Queens County, and Cochran Bryant Prep School, Maryland. He was a 1939 graduate of Colgate University with a bachelor's degree in English literature. He had been a resident of Canajoharie for 70 years.
Mr. Betcher was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include three cousins, Robert Betcher of Biloxi, Miss., Millard Eide of Moorhead, Minn. and Bruce E. Betcher of Grand Forks, N.#D.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie. A service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Kenneth Dingman, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Plain, will officiate. Burial will take place in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery in the spring.
