Homer Peace
Wednesday, May 9, 2001
Homer Peace, 94, of Wells, died Monday at Wells House in Johnstown.

He was born on June 25, 1906 in Brooklyn. Mr. Peace was a longtime Long Island resident. He retired to Wells in 1971. Mr. Peace had been a resident of Wells House since March.

He was a graduate of Lynbrook High School, where he was captain of the football team. He attended art school at Pratt Institute.

An accomplished artist, Mr. Peace worked in New York City in publishing, designing book jackets, and in advertising as an art director.

He was the widower of Ida Brown Peace, whom he married in 1932. She died in 1950. He was also the widower of Ruth Kronmann Peace, whom he married in 1953. She died in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Peace Robins of New York City.

Arrangements are by Northville Funeral Home. Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Dawn E. Foster

Dawn E. Foster, 55, of Hope, N.Y., died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the home of her brother, Rudy Peters and his family, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on April 8, 1946 in the town of Wells, N.Y. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Clara Foster Peters. She was a graduate of Wells Central School and attended Monroe Community College. She was a graduate of Cornell University and Pittsburgh State University. She was pursuing her doctorate degree at New Mexico University in the field of computers.

Dawn was last employed by a Fortune 500 telemarketing firm in Miami as a computer consultant. She also was a college professor. Survivors include her mother, Clara B. Peters, Johnstown, N.Y.; her son, Brian Haines of Tyrone, N.Y.; three daughters, Kerrie Chamberlain and Kimberly Haines, both of Rochester, N.Y., and Kristina Haines of Ocala, Fla. Four brothers, Rudy and Robert Peters of Hope, N.Y., Elton Peters of the town of Day, N.Y. and Douglas of Johnstown, N.Y. One sister, Cathy Bartholf of Hope, N.Y. Three grandchildren, Seth Trimble and Levi Lenirand, both of Ocala, Fla. and Victoria Chamberlain of Rochester, N.Y. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, or the Lake Pleasant United Methodist Church, Route 8, Lake Pleasant, N.Y. Burial will take place at Algonquin Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

David B. Mehnert

Mr. David B. Mehnert, 61, of South Shore Road, Hadley, died Tuesday, May 8, at Nathan Littauer Hospital.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1939 in Lapeer, N.Y., the son of Frank and Gwendolyn Walker Mehnert. He was a graduate of Averill Park High School and Moody Bible Institute of Chicago.

Mr. Mehnert was technical director I.T.V. for the Newburgh Board of Education, Newburgh, N.Y., where he worked for about 30 years.

He was a member of Northville United Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, and was a member of its handbell choir. He was vice president of the Sacandaga Seniors and a volunteer for AIDS Related Community Services in Newburgh. He was a ham radio operator and also was a volunteer examiner for the American Radio Relay League.

He was married on Dec. 14, 1962 to the former Joan Kirkpatrick who survives. Additional survivors include his children, Lisa A. Deon of Utica, Stephanie Aames of Philadelphia, Pa.; David B. Mehnert Jr. of Wallkill, N.Y.; and Frances Larson of Brisbane, Calif.; his stepmother, Elsie Mehnert of New Hartford, N.Y.; as well as five grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Northville United Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Paul Hopwood and the Rev. Paul H. Wilson will officiate. Cremation will take place at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to Trans World Radio, PO Box 8700, Cary, NC 27512, or the Heifer Project International, PO Box 8106, Little Rock, Ark. 72203. Arrangements are by Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.

Edward Fassett

Mr. Edward J. Fassett, 57, of Wagners Hollow Road, Fort Plain, died early Wednesday morning, May 9, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.

He was born on March 22, 1944, in Little Falls, the son of Harry Sweet and Alvada Jones Bouck. Mr. Fassett was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, class of 1964. He was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Fassett was employed as a linesman for Citizens Communications for more than 35 years.

He served in the Army from 1965 to 1967.

He was a member of Stone Arabia Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a member of Ephratah Rod & Gun Club, where he also served as former president and recently was active as vice president. He also was a member of Loyal Order of Moose 1185, Johnstown.

He married Sharon I. Crouse Fassett on April 2, 1966, in St. John's and St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Canajoharie.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon I. Fassett of Fort Plain; three daughters, Tammy R. Talbot and Theresa R. Baker, both of Fort Plain, and Ann Marie Fassett of Palatine Bridge; one brother, Douglas Bouck of Schenectady; three sisters, Doris Hisert of St. Johnsville, Beverly Lake and Marion Duesler, both of Ephratah; seven grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie. Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, May 14, at Stone Arabia Trinity Lutheran Church, Route 10, Palatine Bridge. The Rev. Gail Wolling will officiate. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions may be made to Mid County Volunteer Ambulance Service, PO Box 126, Canajoharie.

John J. Kadlic

John J. Kadlic, 96, of North Market Street, Johnstown, died Thursday evening, May 10, at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam after a long illness.

He was born on Nov. 15, 1904, in Kuty, Czechoslovakia. He served in the Army during World War II.

He worked as a leather worker for Twin Cities Leather Co. for 20 years and retired in 1968.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Johnstown.

He married Marie Ujcek on Oct. 20, 1945, at St. Anthony's Church. She died Aug. 15, 1987.

He is survived by one son, Judge John J. Kadlic of Reno, Nev.; one daughter, Anne E. Samenko of Johnstown; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Anthony's Church in Johnstown. The Rev. James Fitzmaurice, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will take place at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society, the Community Hospice of Amsterdam or the charity of one's choice.
