Anna M. Faulknor

Mrs. Anna M. Faulknor, 78, formerly of Johnstown, died Wednesday, May 9, at Mediplex Nursing Home in Holyoke, Mass., after a long illness.

She was born on Aug. 22, 1922 in Speculator, the daughter of George and Marie Slack. She operated the former Anna's Taxi in Johnstown until her retirement.

Mrs. Faulknor was predeceased by her husband John Faulknor. He died on April 11, 1996.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. R. W. Williams, Mountain Valley Hospice chaplain, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Speculator Cemetery.

Earl A. McSpirit

Earl A. "Duke" McSpirit, 54, of 141 County Highway 107, Johnstown, died Friday at home with his family after a short illness.

Duke was born on Dec. 11, 1946 in Gloversville, the son of Patrick and Elizabeth Decker McSpirit. Mr. McSpirit married Mary L. Henderson on Aug. 22, 1969. She survives.

Duke was a great fan of motor sports and owned and drove the I-1 race car at Fonda Raceway. He was a floor worker, employed by Risedorph Leather Co., Gloversville, retiring due to ill health.

He is survived by his wife, Mary L. McSpirit; one son, Earl S. McSpirit; two daughters, Brandy M. McSpirit and Dixie L. McSpirit, all of Johnstown; six brothers, William McSpirit of Gloversville, Firman McSpirit of Mayfield, Thomas McSpirit of Gloversville, Richard McSpirit of Fonda, Charles McSpirit of Gloversville and Fred McSpirit of Gloversville; three sisters, Patricia Passino of Bonny Lake, Wash., Mabel Ward of Fultonville, and Joan Carter of Gloversville. Six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was predeceased by a brother, John Mc Spirit.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday from the Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. R. W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial Contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73, N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Doris M. Ryan

Doris M. Ryan, 78, of Gloversville, died Thursday, May 10, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam after a long illness.

She was born in Brooklyn to the late Dagfin and Olive Sutherland Andersen.

Mrs. Ryan was a resident of Wells House Nursing Home and a former member of the Eastern Star.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Doris Frank of Johnstown and Sharon Seymour of Potsdam. She is the grandmother of Lisa Payment, Gail Kochek and Sean Seymour; great-grandmother of David Payment. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was the wife of the late William Ryan.

There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Fernand A. Berthiaume

Fernand A. Berthiaume, 69, of Outer Drive, Rotterdam, passed away at St. Clare's Hospital on Friday, May 11, 2001, after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.

Born in Berlin, N.H., he was a beloved son of the late Stanislas and Malvinia St. Pierre Berthiaume. He was the beloved husband of the former Geraldine Jordan. Mrs. Berthiaume survives at home.

He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, class of 1956. He moved to the Schenectady area in 1956.

Mr. Berthiaume retired from the New York State Office of General Services in 1987 with 30 years of service as assistant plumbing engineer.

He was a decorated Korean War veteran and retired from the New York Army National Guard. Besides his beloved wife, he leaves behind two loving daughters and sons in law, Linda and Edward Germain Jr. of Queensbury and Sandra and Dale Guldenzopf of Rotterdam, and one loving son and daughter-in-law, John and Linda Berthiaume of Mayfield. He is also survived by eight loving grandchildren, Lisa and Sara Germain of Queensbury; Justin, Melissa and Christy Guldenzopf of Rotterdam, John Jr., Nicole and Joshua Berthiaume of Mayfield.

He is survived by two loving sisters, Cecile Laferriere of Malden, Mass., Jeanne Lambert of WeekiWachee, Fla., and two loving brothers, Gerard Berthiaume of Gorham, N.H., and Andre Berthiaume of Berlin, N.H.

There are no calling hours. All services are private. Burial will be in Saratoga National Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc., 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Donations may be entrusted to the St. Clare's Hospital Foundation, 600 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY 12306.

Chester R. Burton

Chester R. Burton, 85, formerly of the Old Outlet Road in Caroga Lake, died at the Clare Bridge Manor of Clifton Park on Friday, May 11, 2001. He had been residing at Clare Bridge Manor since May 2000.

He was born on July 4, 1915, in Stratford, the son of Harry and Alice Minter Burton, and he was a graduate of Dolgeville High School, class of 1931.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy from April 1944 until he was honorably discharged in January 1946. He served with the U.S. Naval Task Group in France.

Chester was employed by the General Electric Co. of Schenectady for 35 years and retired in 1980.

He was a member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge No. 796 Free and Accepted Masons, and a member of the Quarter Century Club of General Electric.

Surviving him are his sons, Bruce Burton and his fiancee Millie Rowe of Amsterdam, Larry Burton and his wife, Pat, of Derrand, Ill., Robert Burton and his wife, Judy, of Fishkill, and Richard Burton and Dedee of Amsterdam; a daughter, Julie; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Roberts-Buck Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville, with the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia of Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Little Falls officiating. Burial will take place at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Little Falls at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Monday from 1 p.m. until the service.

Memorials in his name should be sent to the Hospice program of Schenectady County.

Marion F. Persse

Mrs. Marion F. Persse, 100, formerly of East State Street, Johnstown, N.Y., died Thursday at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home after being a resident for six years.

Born on February, 19, 1901, in Fords Bush, N.Y., she was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Persse was a homemaker, and with her husband Dudley, she owned and operated the former Twin Cities Milk Company, Main Street, Johnstown.

She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the St. Monica Court of Johnstown, N.Y. She was also a member of the Fonda Reformed Church.

She was married in 1923 to Dudley Persse, who died in 1982.

Mrs. Persse is survived by a son, D. Robert Persse of Gloversville, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Thomas Persse and Nancy Dence, both of Fonda, N.Y.; and a great-granddaughter, Katie Bowler.

The funeral services will be held on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Fonda Reformed Church, Broadway, Fonda, N.Y., with the Rev. Karen Patterson officiating. The burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Fonda Reformed Church.

The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, N.Y.
