REILLY, ALICE

Alice Reilly, an Irvington resident since 1945 died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the age of 93. Alice was born in Michigan to Victor and Ethel Jost and would have celebrated her 94th birthday this Saturday. She was raised in St. Louis and received her R.N. degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She then completed her B.S. degree from the University of Washington in Seattle where she became a member of Phi Beta Kappa and then worked as a Supervisor Nurse at Dobbs Ferry Hospital. Alice continued her studies and received an M.S. degree from Columbia University and became a Professor of Nursing at Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y. Alice was married in Janu ary, 1943 to Gerald J. Reilly who predeceased her. She is survived by her loving children, Gerald D. (Allyn), David F. (Jane), Patricia and Joseph. Also surviving are her grandchildren Mark (Heather), Kathleen (Stephen), Colin and Brendan, and great-grandchildren Devin, Reilly, McKenzie and Cassidy. Visitation will be Thursday, April 16 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, Dwyer & Vanderbilt Funeral Home, 90 N. Broadway, Tarrytown, N.Y.10591. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Friday, April 17 at Immaculate Conception Church, Irvington, NY.

RUSSO, MARIE E.

Marie E. Russo passed away on Monday, April 13th, 2009 in West Palm Beach, Florida. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on December 25, 1919 to Jenny and John Pangia. Marie was married to Carl A. Russo on July 16, 1941, they were happily married for 60 years before he passed. Marie and Carl had three children Ann Marie, Linda Jean, and Michael John. Marie lead a very social life, she enjoyed playing cards, dancing, singing and being with her friends and family. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and knitting. Marie is survived by her daughter Ann Marie and son-in-law Bob Gorman, grandson and his wife Rob and Gina Gorman, and her great-grandchildren Felicity and Bobby Gorman. She is also survived by one sister and many nieces and nephews. The wake will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. SCIMIA, CARMINE GEORGE

Carmine Scimia, a lifelong resident of White Plains, passed away peacefully Monday, April 13th at his home. Carmine, a proud WWII veteran, was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his heroic actions with the 5th Infantry in Europe. Carmine is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Josephine (DelMarco), his son Anthony and his wife Meredith, daughters Valerie, Donna and Lorraine Scimia, Joanne Ferri, her husband Frank and beloved grandchildren Abigail and Madeline Ferri. He is also survived by his sisters Ann Conti and Dolores Shuttle and Dolores's hus band Eugene, and many lov ing nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends. Carmine was a proud graduate of Iona Prep. He earned an MBA in Finance from Columbia University. Carmine retired from Wachovia Securities as Associate Vice President, Investments after over 50 years of dedicated service to his clients. He was a lover of music and sang whenever he had the opportunity. Carmine was an avid golfer and longtime member of Knollwood Country Club. Carmine was a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church and was a founder of the OLS Father's Club. Mahoney, Joseph a resident of Pleasantville for over 50 years, died April 30, 2007. he was 87 years old
Mr. Mahoney was born October 22, 1919 in West Orange, N.J. He attended schools in West Orange, graduating from West Orange High School.
He was employed for over 33 years by Swift & Co. During World War II, Joseph served in the Army Air Unit in Norwich, UK. For over 30 years he was employed at real estate sales in the Pleasantville area.
Joseph is predeceased by his wife Cecilia, who died April 1, 2006.
He is survived by his children Cecilia Walsh of Katonah, NY., Frank Mahoney of Parkton, MD., Brian Mahoney of Southbury, CT., and his brother Eugene Mahoney of Mendham, NJ., and his sister Regina Gately of Heightstown, NJ., He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren Elizabeth Mills, Colleen Lyle, William Walsh, Jr., Clare Mahoney, Lee, Drew, Dean and Patrick Mahoney and his great grandchildren Thomas and Jonathan Mills and Madelyn Lyle.
Joseph was predeceased by his 2 brothers Walter and Vincent Mahoney.
The family will receive friends at the Beecher Funeral Home, Inc., in Pleasantville on Wednesday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at Holy Innocents R.C. Church with burial to follow at All Souls Cemetery in Pleasantville.

Manning, Calvin H., age 80, of Pleasantville, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, after a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband of Patricia (née Mertz) for fifty-nine years, and also leaves behind to mourn his daughter Carol (Patrick Neilson) and grandchildren Anna Neilson, Ivan Neilson and Jennifer Feinberg. To his everlasting sorrow, Cal was predeceased by his daughter Linda Feinberg. Born in Port Chester in 1928, Cal graduated from Port Chester High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the Navy, serving from 1944-1946. He joined the Pleasantville Police in 1953 and was promoted to Sergeant in 1961. He attained the rank of Chief in 1971 and proudly served as such until he retired in 1985 after thirty-two years of dedicated service. He was a member (retired) of the Westchester County Chiefs of Police and the New York State Chiefs of Police. For fourteen years, he served in the Pleasantville Ambulance Corps, and remained an Associate Member. During his tenure on the force, he volunteered his time and energy to various charitable events and institutions, and he played softball for both the Mount Pleasant Police and St. John’s Church. Cal served his community faithfully and well. Affectionately known as “Chief, ” in retirement, Cal became an avid reader, golfer, and Giants fan. He was a member of the Pleasantville Country Club, and supported many benefit golf tournaments. The family will receive friends at the Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville on Friday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 PM. The Funeral Service will be at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 AM with interment to follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rosary Hill Home, 600 Linda Avenue, Hawthorne, NY 10532.

Marchewka, Dorothy (nee Reska) on 12/7/2006. Beloved wife of the late Stanley V. Loving mother of Susan Sharkey (Thomas), Constance Hard (Harold), Vincent (Susan), and Peter James (Rosemary). She was the adored grandmother of 12 and great grandmother of 7. Dorothy was a loving sister of Anthony Reska and the late Walter, Edward, Francis & Joseph. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home, Inc. 5628 Broadway, Bronx on Sunday from 2 – 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth’s R.C. Church (187th ST. & Wadsworth Ave.) Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. Mazzarano, Mary Luceri formerly of Ardsley passed away on March 12, 2007. She was 89. Her husband Harry predeceased her in October of 2003
Mrs. Mazzarano was born August 15, 1917 in New York City to Louis and Mary (Molite) Luceri. She was a resident of Ardsley for 25 years. Prior to that she lived in the Bronx where she graduated from Morris High School. Mary was a Program Processor for the New York Telephone Company.
She was an avid gardener and loved to bake. Mary was also a proud member of the VFW in Hastings.
Mary is survived by her loving children and their spouses Mary and Dennis Hagenbuch and James and Marie Mazzarano, and two grandsons James and Steven.
The family will receive friends at the Beecher Funeral Home, Inc. in Pleasantville on Thursday evening from 7 – 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus R.C. Church in Valhalla on Friday at 10 AM.

McDonough, Sr. Mary Rosaria, O. P. at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, on January 6, 2007. Born January 31, 1910 in County Longford, Ireland. Sr. Mary Rosaria, O.P. made First Profession on September 14, 1948 and Final Profession on September 14, 1952.
Sr. Rosaria is survived by her sister Kitty Scanlan of Ireland, 2 nieces, Meave Corkery of Ireland & Joan Braganza of Canada and a nephew Brendan Scanlan of Ireland.
Sr. Rosaria will be reposing in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary on Thursday from 3 – 8:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 AM.
Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
